  1. I'm another who's not pretending to have a crystal ball, but I'd guess Brossart's lineup will be mostly set as follows:

    Troy Cooper--5

    Nathan Mutsch--4

    Jim Uebel--2 or 3

    Josh Kidney--1 or 2

    ????

I'd guess the five other seniors are in the mix for the fifth spot, who all bring something different to the table. Kyle Kramer probably saw the most varsity time last year, is a great defender who probably fits best as a 2 or 3. Matt Lloyd is a natural PG, and another great defender and steady ball handler. Luke Rebholtz is similar in size to Kramer, but more of a scorer from the 2-3 spot. Matthew Hansman has good size and is a good inside scorer. Bryan Niemeyer, possibly the most versatile of the bunch, has some size as well as outside scoring ability.

Unless sombody really steps up in the preseason, I wouldn't be at all surprized to see some situational starters depending on the opponent, and whether or not they need size, defense, scoring, speed, etc. Should make for a pretty versatile and deep team!!

I think Kyle Kramer will see the most time and most starts from this group. KK brings some toughness to the floor can knock down the open shot.

  2. This sounds like a pretty small lineup. Do they have any size in reserve?

If they have any size it would have to have been from last years freshman team. Didn't get a chance to see frosh team last year but I think I was told freshmen team was sub-.500 last year. Don't know how much varsity help is going to come from that group.

Scott's line up is going to be two small forwards and three guards!

  3. They lost a lot of talent from last year's team and their JV wasn't very good at all.

IMO -their only bright spot this year will be Kane Belcher. He is a top quality player and will be Mr. Everything for them.

    :thumb:

Belcher will have to put up some huge numbers for PC this year. Just don't thik they have the talent level that they have enjoyed the past few years.

  4. His lone bright spot this year is Kane Belcher. They will be .500 team

I saw Pendleton JV 3-4 times last year and just feel that they are going to struggle on the varsity level. Haven't seen their schedule but if the new coach gets them to .500 this year he did a heck of a job.

  5. I know who you are referring to and that is a possibility. I know Quigley, Miller, and Sharp for sure will start and the other two positions are up in the air. I was just giving my opinion who I felt might start.

Quigley, Sharp & Miller are locks. Felts got a lot of PT so he is probably a good bet as well. Smith is probably the best bet for the last position. If teams have to help on Sharp and Quigley, Miller & Smith can make jump shots.

Bench is going to be extremely young & inexperienced.

  6. Got to agree on your top two, but Silver Grove, Augusta, Pendleton, and Campbell contenders???? Sorry but Augusta and SG are just too small and thin on the bench, and I love Cory Pelle. Pendleton will obviously be way off from the past couple of years, but do benefit from a very weak district; and Campbell's best shot recently was last year. I think Scott for one may be better than all of these.

    :thumb: :thumb:

Cory Pelle is one of the top players in the 10th but don't think he can elevate SG to contender level.

Augusta just doesn't have the horses to compete night in and night out in the 10. SG & Augusta could pull off an upset every now and then but to make a run thru districts & regionals???

Campbell Co had a decent JV team last year but this will be a lot of those players first extended varsity minutes...lot of football players in that group might take them a while to get going.

Scott has a couple of quality varsity players in Sharp & Quigley but they are going to have to get some production from someone other than those two to be competitive. Miller was a quality reserve last year but he now becomes a major player for Scott...big change. if Scott doesn't get some production from other players besides the three mentioned it could be along season.

10th still runs through Mason, GRC & Brossart.

Looks like a tough schedule for Scott....are they going to be able to replace Howard inside? McCord gave them an outside threat last year...do they have anyone to replace McCord? If teams take away Sharp & Quigley who will score? Don't remember them having a real deep bench last year...

Just doing my part to keep thread alive until season starts!!

Who are the teams just outside the top 10 who could potentially break into the top 10? Campbell Co, Beechwood, Scott, LLoyd and what do they need to have happen to break into the top 10?

Just my opinion but Dixie is a year away and Newcath needs to find someone to get the ball to Kiernan, and Ryle should be more in the 9-10 range.

Holy Cross is ranked too low. SK should be below Holy Cross and Brossart

  9. I had heard that Chevalier of Dixie had originally expressed an interest in the job but withdrew his name in the last 2 or 3 days..

Chevalier is looking at a pretty good run at Dixie in the next couple of years. Ryle would still seem to be a great opportunity but not better than what Dixie will be for the next few years.

Does the fact that no one is hearing anything increase the liklihood that they stay in house? Is that good for Terry Trame & Alan Mullins?

  10. Surely you jest. Seems like I remember a bunch of people promising the same thing at Holmes just a few years ago.

Boone has a good class, so does Ryle, CovCath, Dixie, Highlands, and Holy Cross. I'd worry more about the region and less about the state thing at this point.

    :thumb:

A lot can happen over the next couple of years before anyone can predict runs at state. Look at the senior classes at Simon Kenton & Holmes. Both have been successful but that state title run has eluded Holmes and SK needed a move to the 8th to be considered a regional contender.

  11. Boone will be very Good you will see a couple of them get Varsity Minutes this year..........Dixie has some great players coming in Followed by a great 8th grade class after that........Ryle will have some good big men having two big guys at 6"3 each and they are good.....I dont know anything about Highlands.......or Holy Cross..............

Dixie frosh are very good, very deep, very physical......Lots of football players. Challenge is going to be keeping them playing basketball.

8th grade class is OK but not as good as the freshman class ahead of them. I think they have enjoyed most of their success due to overall weakness of all of the 8th grade classes in that league as compared to the incoming freshmen class ahead of them.

Bump them ahead one year and they are a 4th or 5th place team. You don't see the kids in that eighth grade playing D1 AAU and enjoying the success that Popp, Earls, Flannery, Gabbard, etc have enjoyed.

Seems kind of strange that one years class is so strong locally and the next year seems very average at best

  12. Boone Co. has a great group of incoming freshmen.

Austin Flannery 6' probably the best shooter in the state in this class, Andy Earls 6'6" a strong big man, Ryan Popp 5'8" & Mikey Gabbard 5'9" two of the best point guards in the state in this class. These four played JV ball this summer with Boone and dominated the competition. They also got several minutes playing varsity and all performed very well, especially the big man Earls.

Flannery, Earls & Popp play on the D-One KY Patriots 14U AAU team with the Rose Hill boys (Euton, Jackson & Bair), these six boys are the core of the Patriot team; they've been together since 6th grade. The Patriots have won the Div 1 AAU State Championship the past three years and are picked as one of the top Div 1 AAU teams in the nation.

This group will make some noise the next four years.

Strong freshman class this year with Boone Co probably being the best. Dixie and Highlands are not too far behind. Holy Cross and Ryle should also be very solid.

Interesting to see how many of these freshman at Boone will actually play freshman ball.

How are the other frosh teams in the 9th & 10th regions?
