  1. Ive decided that there are no upsets in the 14th based on what has been happening of late. Everyone is even-kill right now, especially the 4 teams left in the all "A". This could all change come district, and a few teams could seperate themselves from the rest of the pack. I hope it stays this close though, although I dont know if I handle the excitement. :jump:
  2. Crooked roads.... wow. No foul either, maybe a little body but it was a 6'3" kid blocking a 6'8" kid. I really dont know how Reed got up like he did, but I think I saw a couple of boys start to become men last night after the way they played. I think Owsley's new found heart will take them farther than the crooked roads of eastern Kentucky.
  3. Yeah, you make a good point. But stats arent everything. JMO. Anyway the best Junior in the region is Hicks from Hazard.
  4. Coach's Gary and Jim Stepp are brothers to Joe Stepp who is president of Alice Lloyd College where JBS is located. Hmmm..... can you say job security?
  5. I guess they think they have a "phenom" in Pippa Passes. But all laughs aside, Tate Cox is an outstanding player, he is in 8th but he has been held back a couple of years I heard,so he's more like a sophmore, but still he plays like he's in college! He has more potential (along with the young center) than anyone on the team.
  6. To be honest he wouldve probably been a better player had he still been at Lee. Owsley hasnt had one coach for consecutive years in the last 5 years. Congelton would make Lee a better team than what they already are, he's a real hard worker, solid defensively, plus another shooter to that tough Lee Co. squad.
  7. The game of the year thus far? Im saying so! Wow, the already proven Lee Co. Bobcats against the up and coming Owsley Co. Owls. Lee Co. has won the both match-ups this year so they have to have confidence going into this game, but the Owls are starting to get that old Owsley Co. swagger back. The bad blood runs deep between these two teams, all the way back to the incident with the bus windows in the 60's. I hope it doesnt go that far, but this big of a rivalry is good for both programs. Anyway, Owsley wants to put another All "A" Banner up beside '90, '99, '00, and '01. Plus, third time's a charm............. Owls by 2 in OT.
  8. Great Job Owls. Neeley stepped it up offensivley, the bucket was looking GINORMOUS for him last night. Smith played his usual game, leader of the team, big player in a big game. Trey Congelton stepped it up defensivley and grabbed some boards. What about the last 2 plays of the game though? Dustin Wilson stepping up big and getting the "And 1" play, then Josh Reed with a tremendous defensive play on the other end. Owls really stepped up big and played to win. KUDOS.
  9. Anybody know how many Gilbert had in this game?
  10. A Lee/Hazard final would be the logical choice at this point in the season, but the as tight as this region is, Im feeling some upsets and a big shake-up in the 14th Region Rankings.
  11. There's not been a lot of atmosphere at the last couple of Owsley games I've seen. The fans havent really been gettin into it. And I know JBS is bringin a pep bus, so the Owsley faithful better get ready.
  12. Yeah, I think Congelton moved to Owsley his 8th grade or Freshman year.
  13. If Owsley plays the 2-3 they better be able to get out on the shooters of JBS. If not it could be a long night for them, because Cox can fill it up.
  14. Great point, but just because players like Congelton are in for most of the game doesnt necessarily mean that they should put up much larger numbers than a decent/good player from a team that plays a lot of players. There is always the stamina factor, playing an entire 32 minutes can be grueling especially when youre playing a team that has fresh players all of the time. Its not always the numbers that determine how good a player really is either, you have to look at what he means to his team. Without Congelton where would Owsley be? Im not saying he's the BEST junior in the region, but his name is mentioned a lot.
  15. The Owls played at Pippa Passes in the Grady Nutt Athletic Center in 2004. They won by 20. Come on Doc, you should know this.
  16. When Owsley played PCC earlier in the season, they were in the game all game long (pre Robert Smith). As big as a toss up the 14th region is, there really isnt a tremendous amount of difference in one team to the next. Im just saying, the region isnt like it always has been, 3 or 4 dominant teams, and a bunch of scrubs, and all the players are very close skill wise. The better teams (record wise), are the ones that are better coached.
  17. Just like the rest of the region, the All A is a toss up. I would say that Hazard has to be the favorite, but a lot of it depends on how you draw in the tourney. The team with the best road to Richmond always has the advantage.
  18. The Owls do cause some matchup problems in terms of size for JBS's guards, but the Crusaders hustle, play hard, and the Cox kid is a tremendous shooter. If Owsley worries too much on Collins inside, they will get burnt outside. I cant wait to see the Smith/Stepp matchup either, 2 of the best slasher/scorers in the region. If Owsley doesnt play with intensity, the Crusaders will roll.
  19. I agree that Congelton from Owsley is one of the top juniors in the region. He's pretty athletic, plays hard, shoots the ball well, and is a real team player. A lot of how the Owls play rests on Congelton's performance, I'd like see him get more touches...
