  1. what qualifications do AAU coaches have to have? and who decides? Past records, work history, credentials, military or criminal record?
  2. What motivation does the AAU sponsors or coaches have? Money, ego?
  3. Are the AAU programs in the State of KY. an asset to High School programs and the athletes or are they counter productive?
  4. Why are most of these people involved and are they affiliated with AAU?
  5. Who is the most knowledgeable (non - coach) about the girls coming up through the state.

  7. seems to be a hard nosed player, the kind you need to face IN. and someone who wants to wear the KY. jersey. He will have to match up with bigger players from IN.
  8. Troutman will be a nice surprise. Part Patrick Sparks part Tasmanian Devil. Ky needs players like him to face IN.
  9. As with any invitation, it is nice to get an RSVP, thank you for the invitation, I'm honored but will not be able to attend. A lost art. Individual players are not contacted directly. A letter goes to the AD or team coach. That individual contacts the player with the invite. Approx. half of the players that elected not to show for try outs responded directly or by way of their coaches with apologies and thanks. Others did not respond, may be lack of communication or personal preference not to respond. When a known candidate declines early enough, a replacement was added. The most frustrating situation is where a player says they will show, provides stats, pictures, school emblems, rooms and meals planned and their coach shows for try outs and they don't show. That borders on disrespectful.
  10. up until this point, all college coaches have allowed their recruits/players to participate in this series. the times in the past when a no show used a future college as an excuse, coaches were called and arrangements were made to allow that player the opportunity to participate.
  11. one of the most athletic kids at the try outs, fast, blocking shots above the rim, rebounds - major drawback, had a tough time hitting a shot.
  12. Seems to be 13 names this year. Gray, Rebecca - 11 Ballinger, Whitney - 8 Brown, Hope - 5 Campbell, Elizabeth - 7 Danis, Courtney - Elliott, Lateidra - 7 Gholson, Thia - 7 Howard, Ashley - 15 London, Emily - 11 Prince, Ashley - 3 Queen, Emily - 16 Snowden, Keyla - 11 Terry, Laura - 16 seems like a good mix with say 2 surprises.
  13. Boys tryout candidates are chosen the same way as the girls. Boys final team is chosen the same way as the girls team. Coaches of the year from each region run the try outs for the Head Coach. At the end of each session those coaches discuss what they saw and each players performance under these conditions and how they can possibly contribute to the team makeup. At the end of try outs, the coaches give the final committee 16 names for consideration. The final committee consist of the Head Coach, Game Director (Ky. Lions Eye Foundation), and the Game Chairman. They select the final 12 players to make up the roster for the Ky All-Star Teams.
  14. He was not invited to try outs. You must be a graduating senior in good standing with at least two years of high school basketball in the state of KY.
  15. What school is Rodney Haddix from? Senior?
  16. Second year for the coaches of the year from each region to run the try outs. The whole state gets a qualified voice. They run the try outs and work the group of 40 candidates down to 16 at the end of the second day. Last session is between the Head Coach, Game Director from the Foundation and the Game Chairman. Seems like a great improvement from the old days. Coach has input on the style of team they would like to put on the court.
  17. A fine individual with high moral standards. great guy, great coach. High Schools need more like him.
  18. Preston Knowles Johanne Hamilton Matt Walls
  19. I was in a sandy spot with crappy food and warm Fanta orange drinks. Very little to do with Basketball. Glad to be back up to speed. Thanks
  20. Yes, players of the year from each region receive an automatic invite. Ballots from Head Coaches were due in by March 23rd. These ballots elect a Miss Basketball and nominate an additional 10 players for try outs. The sports press corps from around the state select an additional 10. The head coach, Game Director and Game Chairman have an additional 4 slots to fill. Gives an opportunity to fill a void or to have a look at a player that may have been overlooked. No one has contacted any players about tryouts. Players will be notified after Miss Basketball has been announced. Yes, 40 players at try outs are alot. However; would rather err on the high side while giving more players an opportunity. Also coaches do have a responsibilty in the selection process. They are usually the individuals with firsthand knowledge of many of the players. They also have the expertise and passion for the game. Also coaches of the year from each region(16) will help Coach Napier run and evaluate the tryouts. The final team of (12) will come down to Coaches recommendations, Coach Napier, Game Director and Game Chairman.
  21. Who are the front runnners for Miss Basketball this year?
  22. What age group do the AAU programs start at?
  23. Is AAU involvement good for the kids? It seems that it gives them additional play experience and some exposure, but it also seems expensive and time consumning. What do these AAU people get out of this?
