  1. Enough about the t-shirts...where did the linemen go to dinner this week?...OH, that was last year's inane thread! LOL. Did anyone mention that the proceeds of the shirts benefit school clubs?

I'm not sure where they went, but it must have been good because they played awesome last night.............:D

  2. I'm sure both teams have improved since earlier in the season. I like what I've seen from the Birds this week in practice. The focus, discipline and attention to detail was obvious. As LN has pointed out, Dale is unpredictable. Almost reminds me of practices during the playoffs. That's not to imply in anyway the Birds are looking past the Raiders. That's not going to happen with the coaching staff. I expect the game to be hard fought by two good teams.

  3. As they say "great offenses start at center" and Jacob Manning didn't disappoint playing center, snapping strikes all day to their rookie QB. Long-snaps were done by Jason Waldenmeyer on PATs. The Birds' didn't punt all game due to nice runs by Jake True and Ian McGurn. Jake Meyer did a fine job as the extra-point kicker. Ian McGurn stepped in as the kicker and pounded the ball deep on kick-offs. The Birds' defense was solid, fumbles recovered by Ben Dupont and Jason Waldenmeyer. LBs Sam Chambers, Ben Lofland, Chris Martin and Luke Dressman had a good game. Cris Carson with good punt returns gave the Birds' great field position. The Birds' JV team is loaded with talented athletes, overall this was a nice TEAM WIN! The future looks bright for the Birds.

That's great to hear about Jacob. He's struggled this season due to illnesses. I'm very happy for that young man. I also love the way Ian McGurn and Jason Waldenmeyer play. Watching them on the scout teams against the Varsity is only making them better for next year. Best of luck to all 3 of them.....

  4. How about #5 Austin Abner for almost setting the tone for this game on the 2nd or 3rd play of CovCath's 1st series. If he comes down the with the pick and takes it to the house, this game is over in a hurry. Great job today Austin for stepping up to the challenge. You are making us proud!!!!:thumb:

I agree. I think Austin has stepped up and improved every game. I'm very happy to see he looks like he's having fun playing the game. His pass defense today was excellent. I gotta give Tyler Fennell some credit today at running back. He hasn't been getting many carries over the past few weeks, but today when he was needed he really stepped up. I also have to give Hunter Schlosser credit today. He has several blocks today that were devastating. On defense I thought Roller and Dierig had typical solid games that's become expected of them. Nice game Birds!

  5. I thought Wilson, the Dixie quarteback was brilliant. He was under a heavy rush all night and avoided some sacks with some very neat last ditch moves. He used excellent judgment concerning when to pass and when to run and turned chicken poo into chicken salad on a number of plays. He also held onto the ball despite being gang tackled and having numerous hands trying to strip the ball. His throws were mostly on the money and those that were not were made either while on the dead run or with a hand right in his face. His receivers tended to catch the ball and then cough it up as pointed out elsewhere on this thread. Without him there would have been a running clock early in the game.

I would also like to say something about the referee who ignored the player who ran to the pile up and kicked a player in the back. It happened straight down the 50 and the referee was standing within 5 yards of the play. If he saw it and chose to ignore it, he needs to find something else to do on Friday night. If he did not see it, I wonder what he was watching if not the play right in front of him. The Highlands crowd certainly saw it and let him know their opinion. By the way, I am a Beechwood fan who was neutral and just enjoying a football game on a perfect Friday night.

I hope the Dixie players keep their head up as the mistakes they make are correctable and they do not come from a lack of talent.

After watching the tapes, there were other infractions committed by Dixie. In the first quarter #32 for Dixie threw a punch that was flagged. I thought this type of penalty usually resulted in an ejection? The player that committed the foul stayed in the game. The play you're referring to took place in the 3rd quarter. Yes, it was obvious and right in front of the referee.

  6. Good game by Dixie, Colonels capitalized on 3-turnovers made by the Birds. Dixie's Pike should be a good QB next season for the Colonels. If not for Wilson, Pike could be their starter. Birds QB-Carter New stepped in, making the transition from DB to lead the offense after the recent promotion of Towles to fill the Varsity duties. Birds' offense struggled with turnovers and misques. No excuses though Birds had their opportunities.

Birds defense scored first on a pick by DB-Austin Rosenhagen. Offensive scores were by McGurn, New and ... (sorry it escapes me).

Glad to see Ian McGurn get into the endzone. I see him working extremely hard during practice on the scout offense and defense. Good to see him rewarded in the JV game.

  7. After watching the Birds practice yesterday, I like what I saw and I like what i didn't see. One, they seemed focused as usual and working hard. The practice was spirited and all business. Two, there didn't seem to be a St. X glory effect on their approach to practice. I think this may have to do with the coaches pointing out mistakes during the St. X game. As we all know, coaches have away of bringing players down a few notches during tape reviews.

  8. I'm confused. Can't we be nice and classy in our comments about the game? I saw a lot of grit on behalf of the Beechwood team that did not give up and got the game back to two scores with the ball. I saw Beechwood torch the CovCath secondary on way too many plays considering the Tiger's passing stats going into this game. I say discuss away.

Woooo! I just thought it was a nice comment from a fan that attending the game. I didn't mean to imply anything other than the fact he was gracious about winning and displayed that in a classy way. Didn't mean to offend (confuse) you.

  9. No need to discuss this game for the sake of our friends at Beechwood and I honestly mean that! CovCath won and that is all that needs to be said after this game! Win with class lose with class!

Good luck Beechwood Coaches/players/students/parents and fans, in the Single A Division! Hope it turns out great for the Tigers at years end! :thumb:

Very nice and classy post. We ALL need to remember these are young men doing their very best at all times.:thumb:

  10. I love the Birds but I'm a realist...I think the offense can hang for a while but the defense is another story..JMO

Thanks for the vote of confidence "raider"! I'll be sure to pass it along. I have alot of faith in the HHS Defense. Keep in mind, they've been playing without a few key members for the last 3 weeks. They'll be ready this week! Good luck to both teams.
