The dropped balls are something that can be fixed if the receivers concentrate and work hard. That is something we'll have to wait and see about. As far as the running game goes. That is going to have to be change in personnel and I don't think that happens until week 3. While I was sitting at the SS game watching OCath fail to get an inch in many short yardage situations I wondered if big Nick Norica could line up in the backfield. He doesn't have to run the ball although it couldn't hurt, but let him be the lead blocker. Obviously it can't hurt the running game at all. IMO the OCath defense needs some changes in personnel as well. Rotating guys like Holland, Norcia, Millay, Ijames(when he returns), and even Walker to the defense would help the D out tremendously. From what I have heard OCath should be getting some d-line help this week with the return of one of their injured players. I think the way OHS can score 31 is by not letting OCath accross the 50 yard line, which I think they can do. If the OCath defense is constantly palying with their backs against the wall then they will make mistakes and OHS can score some points. I hope OCath proves me wrong, but as I said when the year started I expect an 0-3 start for the Aces, but they will probably make run at semi-state again this year.

The OCath offense was hindered last week because of no running game, dropped passes, and having to score alot of points because the defense was unable to stop SS. OCaths qb is good but he is young and when you add in all of the problems I stated previously he didn't have a chance. I think OHS can score 31 and here's why. I am expecting 1 or 2 defensive touchdowns and OHS to have fairly good field position throughout the game. SS did not respect the OCath run at all and because of that could focus soley on the screens that OCath threw at them. If OCath doesn't get a better running game then this game might be worse than SS was last week.

The OCath defense lost a lot when McBride graduated. They are going to have to get tough and stop the running game if they want to be successful. Offensively, the running game will be fine when Ijames starts playing (week 3). IMO the passing game will have to be simplified because of having the young qb. Everybody who has seen OCath play seems to think the offense will be just fine. Hopefully they are correct, but I don't think theres a team in the city who will be a very great offensive team.

I just think that the OCath offense will struggle quite a bit early on. They have a new qb and the running back position is a question mark.

I want to feel like this OCath team just had a bad day, but I think they are really gonna struggle early on. Possibly losing there first 3 games. I know Bowling Green is a higher class and also a very good team, but OCath isn't quite the team they have been in the recent past. This isn't a knock on them, because its hard to sustain the type of success OCath has had. Luckily for OCath the region is down this year and they can make a run at semi-state again this year. Again, expect early struggles from OCath, but, as usual, they will play much better by the end of the year.

Apollo 24 HCC 14 Apollo should win by more, but its early. Daviess Co. 17 Marshall Co. 42 Too much Marshall. OHS 21 Mater Dei 10 OHS is too fast for Mater Dei. This would be huge way to start the year for the Red Devils. OCath 13 South Spencer 26 OCath isn't where they need to be yet. Ocath has to find a solid running game to make things easier on the new QB, Walker.

I dont think it takes anything away from him to say that OCath is a very poor tackling team?

Is it true that Ijames will not be able to play in the first couple of games? I read that on another site and didn't know if there was any merrit to it. Even if he cant play in those couple of games and we happen to lose it wouldn't kill the Aces.

Ijames was supposed to have started this week. I don't know if he actually did though. I think he had a change of heart or coach Edge is very persuasive.

When Ijames runs hard he is very difficult on defenses, especially defensive backs who because he delivers such a huge hit. Who are the OHS, Apollo, and DC running backs this year?

I just hope OCath has enough in them to make a run at the title this year and try to overcome the mistakes they made last year. If OHS can get their offense running smoothly then they might be the cities best hope at getting a team to the Pizza Pit.

Did anybody see the OCath practice on the news last night? I was at BW3's and couldn't hear the TV. I didn't know if anything important was said.

How have the city teams looked in scrimages so far? I have heard some conflicting reports about OCath, but I haven't heard much of anything about the other city teams. Do any teams have significant injuries or players that have decided not to come out and play this year?

I would agree with BTS on the state games. Belfry was by far the better team, but OCath played outstanding in the second half to come back in that game. Against Russell the Aces just didn't show up. Both games have something in common though, the Aces didn't tackle very well. For OCath to be successful this year they will have to be a better tackling team.

Billy, are these reliable sources? I thought that OCHS might play at Daviess County or Apollo if the stadium wasn't done yet, but I think both of those teams are playin at home that night.

OCHS(7-3) Defense is very suspect. I could see an 0-3 start if South Spencer is very good. The Aces should rol through district if they get the offense clicking and the defense doesn't kill them. They could lose 4 or 5 if they don't get thougher on both sides of the ball. OHS(8-2) Two words, "Defensive Speed." OHS has it and uses it. If the offense can get 10 points a game then 8-2 or 9-1 is very possible. Male is always very good and who knows about Mater Dei. DC(3-7) This will be an improved team IMO, but still not a good team. I pick 3-7 but a competitive 3-7. I can't say I'll be surprised with a win total that ranges from 0 to 3. Apollo(6-4) Apollo should be decent and might be able to win 7 or 8 if they get lucky, but I think 6 wins is a good number for the Eagles this year. Big Questions? How good will Henderson be? How many kids will come out play for DC? OHS offense? OCHS offense and defense? Where will OCHS and OHS play this year?

Agree 100%. Our defense has been suspect at tackling for a couple of years. This year they have got to learn to hit somebody. Get tough and bring the ball carrier down.

Russell played there butts off today. They executed almost perfectly. They were well prepared and seem to be very well coached. The Aces on the other hand, didn't do too much right today. I tought the Aces were completely unprepared for what Russell was doing. The offensive playcalling left many of us scratching our heads many, many, many times during the game. We did not resemble the same team that had played the previous couple of weeks. As I said before the game OCath is a very poor tackling team. This has been an issue for the past couple of seasons and was exploited by Russells backs on a consistent basis. Its frustrating watching an opponent make winning look so easy and then watch your own team not even be able to make a simple tackle. The Aces did play very hard but it wasn't there day for glory :cry: . I'll miss those seniors very much they served the school proud. Congrats to Russell on your new trophy. :thumb:

It's finally friday. The excitement around this 2A game is unbelievable. Including the deleted thread this topic seems to have the most action. I hope all of the players stay safe before the game and get there O.K. Catholic fans remember the car accident that happened last year or the year before that almost took out our best athletes right at the end of the year.

I don't have an exact number of how many the Aces dress but I would guess around 70 or 80.

This week is dragging by. I can't wait to get to the ville and watch some football. Last year at the state game the Belfey fans were impressed by Barnard and McBride for OCath. What Russell players(both sides of the ball) will impress :eek: the OCath faithful at the game on Saturday?

One thing that me Aces Fan talk about a lot during the games are how some of these coaches run their qb's to death. The qb has to run to the sideline to get the playcall and then run back to the team to relay the message. This is added on to running the normal play and sometimes even playing both sides of the ball. It's hard to do that the whole season.
