Lutheran is not only talented, but very well-coached. Tough draw for Holmes. Good luck to them, they will do well.

Fort Myers is a solid team in Fl. This team is not anywhere near their team that won state a few years ago. I was a little surprised Hop lost to them. Not a terrible loss, but certainly not a game they shouldn't have won in my opinion. There are some teams from Fl. this year I could certainly understand beating them and even winning the whole thing, but this year Fort Myers isn't one of those teams. They are solid and well-coached so they can beat you obviously. I don't think they are near as good as New Cath is this year. Just my opinion.

Wow, to me it looks like 7 of the best 9 teams in the tourney are in the bottom bracket. Just one persons opinion.
-
Impressed with the Indians so far, I thought they would be down more with all the players lost. good job
I agree! What does this say about Feldhaus as a coach. He is not usually one of those guys mentioned when top coaches in the state are brought up. Should he be ???

It has to be great for Coach Booher to have someone on his staff like Listerman making sure nobody gets the upper hand in any way shape or form with all of his previous experience. What a team. Would love to have a guy like that on my staff.

They (Trinity) looked outstanding vs Ballard in the finals of the Derek Smith. I know Ballard was missing their best, but that didn't take away from how good Trinity looked. It did of course take away from how Ballard looked. Still good but not at the level I expect them to be this season.

Wonder if this will be webcast anywhere for those of us who can't quite make the drive from Florida to Kentucky lol.
-
That kind of came out of left field.
Bet they go after Jason Booher after this season.
Is North Hardin a better job than Holmes ???
-
Mason County will also be playing in a tournament in Florida over the Christmas Holiday.
What tourney are they in down here? Do you know? Just wondering. Might get a chance to see them play.

I plan on making the trip as well. Have heard nothing but positive things about this event and the venue It's held at.
My only disappointment is that I had heard Holmes was playing Ballard and now It's Trinity. Can't be too disappointed though because Trinity will be really good. Looking forward to seeing the trio of Spalding, Owens, and Stafford against Holmes.
Also looking forward to seeing Hop town, PCC, and KCC.
Yes that Holmes / Trinity game would be worth the trip in itself (well not from here in Florida, but u know what I mean) and those other games are just icing on the cake!

Hicks' job at Corbin was pretty impressive too. I think it was around 1992-1994, but he had them nationally ranked. Impressive considering that they aren't typically thought of as a school just crawling with athletic basketball talent.
Do agree that at the end of the day though, "it isn't about X's and O's... it's about Jimmys and Joes".
That is impressive as I watched a few of those teams play & they weren't overly talented. It most definitely is about the jimmy's and joe's but if they have no or very little direction then it is wasted talent as far as a team goes. Coach Hicks is a definite on this list as are most of all them that I have seen that have made this list. I think what Coach Szabo has done at a "FOOTBALL" school is pretty impressive too. Will be interesting to see over the next couple of years if Coach Booher can win another one at a different school than he won his first one. How many coaches in Ky. have done that ?

What in particular are you looking for. I have dozens myself, some of which I like and some are just fair at best.

As far as Chris O'Hearn and his days at Nicholas County, I don't have the Bluejackets' final records those three seasons (1993-1995,) but they were not able to win anything in the 37th district tournaments. Ousted the first year by a 6-23 Bourbon County team; by a very good Harrison County team in '94; and by Paris in '95.
As far as his time at Mason County...now that's a whole different story.
Funny how when you get to a school with better players and more tradition you have better results. My mentor always told me from day one "It is a lot more about what gets off the bus than it is about us" I had my best results at a school with good talent and great tradition about 15 years ago, but I feel now I am a MUCH better coach than I was then, but with less talent and much less tradition where I am at and have been. Same type thing, O Hearn seems better at Mason, Hicks seems better at SC etc... Just the way the coaching world works.

Heard they hired a local coach ???
-
Do you think Moore will hire within since it is so late in the process??? What did Gatewood teach?
-
Walter, do you think with all of this depth, athleticism & quickness that Coach Booher will likely be pressing from start to finish, or just pick his spots. I know he likes to press when he feels he has the team to do so, and this sounds like that kind of team.

Very good field. Fort Myers from my state has a nice team. Not sure they can win it, but they will represent well. Shaker Heights is normally a good program. Riverside might can win it as they are very well-coached and return most everyone from their state title team. I feel Ballard will win it with Trinity making a push as well. Also hate it that Holmes isn't in it. They could make a push to win it as well. CPA the defending champion was originally going to the City of Palms in Fort Myers, but recently had to pull out. I guess that could have been why they weren't returning and then it was probably too late one they pulled out.

I have always thought Coach Just is one of the better yet more underrated coaches in the state of Kentucky!
-
Both Henry Clay & PCC will both be very good this coming season so victories over them is meaningful, but in summer ball you never know who they had and didn't have. With Cordia from what I hear they are supposed to be much better too. There again depending on who they had and didn't have. I am sure Scott County will be very good as they always are. They seem to dominate this summer tourney. The Derek Smith being the same weekend splits the talent pool and the DSS has many of the 6th & 7th teams so it is usually much stronger.
-
Anywhere we can get the scores/results of these games??? I know in the past there has been a website that was kept pretty up to date w/scores & such? Thanks in advance!
-
Ballard and PRP in same pool!
I was thinking the same thing. Some very strong pools and other very weak ones. And Walter most years the AAU state tourney is the same time at this one. Not sure about this year.

Who won ?

I knew he graduated from Red Bird high school, but found this where he also coached in Florida.
A graduate of Red Bird and Berea College, he previously coached five seasons at Henry County and one at Wildwood in Florida. At Wildwood, his team went 29-4 and reached the Class 3A sectional (Final Four).

The 3A sectional in Florida would be the elite 8 round, but still do have that kind of record at Wildwood which is not known for basketball at all is an amazing feat! Sounds like MC got another very good coach. Hope they keep this one longer. I was impressed watching his OC team online when they were at the sweet 16.

Hate to see kids leave great hs programs like Ballard. I guess it is from a selfish standpoint as a high school coach. Would love to see some of these prep school coaches come coach at a high school where the talent is just pretty good to see how well they would do. A few would do ok and develop players and teams, but not sure how many would be that great ???
