I'm not at all.  My heart just isn't in it this year.  Maybe because I watched less college bball (other than UK) than ever before.  I gotta find a couple random teams to pull for.

Let me suggest Iowa. I could watch Garza every night. They have depth and they have shooters. They move the ball so well. Their defense has improved through the season. Not saying they will win it but fun team to watch.

The other issue is depth. Allen is a non-ball handling shooter. UK struggles - more than they already do - when both Mintz and Askew are sitting, so you put him in at three, off the ball. Mintz and Askew aren't exactly driving to the basket, so now you have three guys just passing it around the perimeter since Allen is unable to handle the rock and/or drive.

How would you know that he is unable to dribble-drive? Has he been limited to shooting the three only? No, he's not a point guard but his ball skills are not as bad as some would have you believe.

I haven't seen/heard the quote. But just a general statement.

Most coaches go by the adage "what are two things you excel at on the court." Allen's problem is aside from being wide open and shooting, Allen gives you very little. It could be argued most times on the court he is the worst, or one of the worst at all aspects of the game except spot up shooting. Not to mention the Allen stands think he should be playing 30 minutes a night.  I'm not saying he can't grow into the role, but since Cal is being accused of giving him a short leash, nobody is asking why? Allen hasn't shown much to me that his game has grown over the course of the year.

Florida played zone and negated UK's success. He inserted Allen and they went man-to-man immediately and I never saw him remotely open. Maybe that is the fault of other players? Calipari? Or Allen? Maybe all three?

Even Cal has said his defense has improved. Hard to show what you can do in two or three possessions at a time. I never said Allen deserved 30 minutes a game. I challenge you to watch some replays and see how he is avoided by our point guard.

  4. After the Florida loss Cal said he put Allen in with instructions to get him the ball.. Cal then said they didn't even look his way. He then promptly removed Allen from the game. Wouldn't you ordinarily remove the player who did not follow your instructions? By the way coach, this is not the first time Allen has been ignored. Since I can't coach, I need a feasible explanation from someone.

This. Don't overthink it, DA fans. Askew is most comfortable getting rid of the ball into safe situations, with little-to-no risk, but also little substance.

Thus the 36 turnovers for the year. Are you cool with his 33% FG average?

Could be but I just don't think Askew sees the court all that well right now.  The game is too fast for him and he's being asked to do too much but that's mainly because we don't really have anyone else.

I'm shocked I wished Hagans was on this team still.  Which would probably have done Askew a world of good because he wouldn't be playing as much, or he'd still be in HS at the moment.

All valid points that you make, but my gut tells me there is a problem beyond what you have mentioned.  i wish Askew well for we surely need him. i don't think Clark will be back and not sure he is the answer to point guard issues anyway.

  7. Has anyone noticed that Askew  hardly ever passes to Allen?  He will start the offense to the opposite side of the floor or wave Dontaie to the opposite side. Can this possibly be by design or some other reason? Cal did bench Askew for a possession after missing Dontaie on the wing and throwing up a brick. You could read Cal's lips saying, "Pass the ball". My comments are based not on just last night but several games the last couple of weeks.  Yes I am biased toward Dontaie but I know what my eyes tell me.

    I'm with you on Askew.

As for Dontaie...I love the kid...but he played about as poorly as he's played all year in the first half last night.  It didn't bother me that he failed to get second half action.

I hate it when you are right.

Even Coach Reed disagrees with you. He said it on his facebook before it got CENSORED that the refs seem like they're ALWAYS against him.

And they are. The foul disparity is there. 43-13 is not even defensible! And the TAUNTING from BB. Two teams shouldn't be this far apart. Refs have had It out for the Polar Bears forever, especially now that Coach Reed is on our sideline!

    Why is this conspiracy?

When those guys are back, I honestly would like to see a starting lineup of:

Clark, Mitz, Boston, Brooks, Sarr. With that lineup you can spread the floor, without jamming up the middle.

Then off the Bench have Askew basically rotating with Clark all game. Have Allen basically rotating with Mitz, and Boston. Have Jackson rotating with Sarr at the five, this way hopefully keeps them both out of foul trouble and not being on the floor at the same time. Then have Ware and Toppin rotating with Brooks.

This would give them more of a set rotation, and if a certain lineup or player gets a hot hand like Allen did. Then you keep rolling with it as long as you can.

Sounds reasonable but Cal likes a rotation of eight and generally no more.
