  1. lots of discipline measures. Basically you go to Buechel if you are a repeat offender, like a big repeat offender and you do serious stuff such as fight a lot or bring drugs into school. You take a timeout and go to Buechel for awhile, or you just get suspended but if that student lives in the home school area the school has to take him or her back. At Male and Butler they just kick those kids totally out of the school and never have to deal with them again. Or they look at their middle school records and decide that they don't want to accept them before they get there.

They should scrap Magnets and all this extra bussing and build another alternative school in my opinion. Discipline is what messes up the classroom experience and prevents the full learning experience.

  2. Yep but I'm not talking about that part. I'm talking about at Moore and a bunch of other public schools, there are lots of kids that they would rather not have because they make bad grades and don't care. They get in disciplinary trouble. Moore can't kick them out if they are in the home school area. Male and Butler don't have that problem because they have no assigned home school area. They can kick out or accept anyone.

  3. Like I said, Magnets are overrated. The difference is boundaries. Male and Butler have no resides area and the ability to to accept any kid in Jefferson County or to reject them. Because they have no home school area they can do that. Other public schools can not reject kids in their home school area.

    Stickymitts,

How will they call themselves state champions"?

How does ST.x or Trinity the year before call themselves state champions? They didn't compete against or beat all of the other class champions.

  4. You disagree but that is fact. Maybe it is a districts choice but why do Male, Manual, and Butler have advantages? Why were they chosen? Not fair to compare them to all other public schools when reporting test scores because they don't play under the same rules.

Yes, your conclusion is right. Stop the open enrollment. Quit wasting all this money on bussing kids all over the city and use it on actually improving every schools education. Open enrollment has hurt the idea of a community. I believe you should go where you live and If you don't like the school where you live, then move to another district. JCPS claims that all public schools in JC are equal. That is bull and we all know it. We can work on making them equal but not with open enrollment.

  5. A true public school is required to educate a certain home school area of students. For example, Southern can not turn a way a kid that lives right down the street because he isn't smart enough or gets in to trouble. They have to take him because he lives in that home school area.

Male, Manual, Butler not having a defined home school area in which they have to educate those kids, makes them to not be a true public school. They get to pick and choose students. They don't have to deal with discipline or kids not making the grade. They kick them out and then those kids have to go to their home school where they may act the same but won't and can't be kciked out.

Thats the advantage they have. Thats why they are not true public schools.
