Gray won a close one. Turned out to be a defensive battle. Both teams were struggling offensively. A couple clutch 3's by Coppola down the stretch was the difference.

May have been a different result if Highlands had all their horses. They certainly could have used Litmer's help with the boards.

Don't forget about Brady Carnohan. He would of made a huge difference on the Boards. The difference from last year to this, HMS split up their Kids between 2 teams. They seemingly put the Top 5 on the A team and then 6-10 on the B team. Actually a very smart move and based on what I see this year that's exactly how I think they did it. It allowed development throughout both Squads.

They are now all together this year playing as 1 unit. HMS and Gray will be tough outs this year. Both are very deep and skilled.....Should be some fun years ahead!

Trust me I know all about spring season loss.  I get that and I know difficult decisions are made during these uncertain times.  It is easy to sit here and stress patience when you have kids done or kids still entering high school.  It is not the same challenge when you have boys dealing with it.  The collective boys I am talking about are working now and doing everything they can.  Let me ask a better question what high schools are currently lifting and doing football workouts???  If others are you may have an answer about the present state of the program.

Who let the program get to this point? It's easy to blame the Admins....Right? I hear ya. I would expect kids to be putting in the work and getting better. That's great! Many people said and talked about how programs were out working Highlands the last couple of years. I didn't want to believe it!

But you can't play "Tug a War" at Highlands and expect to get better when The Team From Park Hills is playing "Incredible Hulk"...That "Just mediocre" mentality has overcome many in this town and especially the Football program. I am pulling for all the boys! You know as well as anybody, I'm hurting too.

Many of those Boys not to long ago were on my very own Coaches Email list in the FTJFL. But when my guys leave my Team in 8th grade, they have an Idea what it needed to play "Highlands Football"

    Go Birds!

  3. It's funny that when the Football(Fall Sports) season was going on and other Sports were trying to get better they were told they couldn't use the Facilities. And no one complained. Well maybe a little. I am part of the Softball staff and we weren't even aloud to practice at Winkler Park that is located off site. It was a school rule. No out of season Sports are aloud to practice. Period! The district finally loosened it a little but when things starting to heat up they promptly shut it down.

Mind you those same sports had their seasons stripped form them in the Spring. Kids improvised rather than complained. They found ways to practice and get better. Now it's flipped and we have Parents threatening to take their kids elsewhere or even show up at the Board office and flex their Chests. Interesting!

Just talked to a guy who has very strong ties to LCA. They're not aloud in their facilities because of Covid. No out of season workouts are permitted. That's strange! What's the difference between LCA & HHS right now other than they have a Football coach? Zero! And LCA will be just fine......And so will Highlands!

    "Trust the Process"

If you don't want to be part of the Process and support what the Admins are doing right now then maybe Highlands and Fort Thomas isn't for you. To each their own I guess!

I will add that the people that are bashing on how Matt Bertasso and staff are handling this situation and have not a clue what they're talking about. Matt cares about the Kids 1st and foremost. It's just taking some time. He is the sole reason the FTJFL was able to play the 2020 season. When the BOE voted to shut their facilities down to outside Organizations per se, Matt stood up and fought for those 200 kids playing Junior football in Ft Thomas. He stressed that those were his Kids too and deserved to play their season as well. And one of those 200 kids was my Son. As far as I'm concerned, Matt Bertasso is the Man and you're not going to change my opinion anytime soon.

  4. I remember a Parent of a past player that shopped their kid around NKY until they found the best fit, say to the coaches at Highlands......What do you guys see in that Skinny kid anyway??? Well, he's now one of the best players in the State of Ky. And his name is Sam Vinson! That's what they saw.....

Normally CalPreps is pretty good but I think this one is way off.  Male was the 2nd best team in KY and they would have had their way with the Colonels last year.

And in 2021. Male returns 17 starters from last years team. Male will have their way with most if not all teams in Ky next year. They will be pretty good!

  6. The F&N Steakhouse......And then we bought it from the Bank. Let me tell you that they use to put Plates of Leftovers up in the Drop Ceilings just to keep the "Big Boys" calm. My goodness some of the Rats we use to see in Broad daylight were unheard of.

I heard a guy one time say the Rats were so big there that they use to "Arm Wrestle at the Bar" And they were Monsters! I use to Love the F&N growing up. I always wondered why the Lights were always so Dim. Well now I know why!

  7. I received the 1st dose of the Moderna Vaccine on Jan 10th. I was fine until the next morning. I was miserable with No Energy for exactly 24hrs. Come Tuesday morning everything was back to normal. My arm was hurting for about 3 days.

I had Covid-19 back in early Nov. The only symptom I didn't get was "shortness of breath" Had everything else. Loss of taste and smell lasted almost an entire month. That was the most Bizarre part of it. I would put a Halls Cough Drop in my mouth and nothing. Couldn't taste or smell it. Just helped control the miserable Cough I had. The cold sweats I had while I would sleep was also not fun. I went through 2 pair of Underwear each Night.

I tested for the Anti-bodies about 3 weeks ago since I didn't test for the Rona when I was sick. Don't judge me.... I just stayed away and limited my Contact from everyone! It came back positive. They were actually able to tell me just about the day/week when I was sick. Unfortunately I think my entire Family got it, but I was the only one that got sick. Everyone tested positive for Anti-bodies except my Wife. Hers cam back inconclusive. What? Not possible....Oh well!

Not looking forward to my 2nd dose. I'm hearing people really struggle with the 2nd round. But if it means that this is a step in the direction of some normalcy then I'm all about it.

    Stay safe everyone.

  8. Beechwood is one or the only school in NKY with a Turf Softball Field. When they built their Baseball/Softball facility a few years back they went the Turf route. Beechwood is a odd setup for sure. Nice but Odd!

You can't play a Baseball and Softball game at the same time. Both outfields intertwine with one another. But with Beechwood having Turf the 9th was able to move the Regional Tourney there a few years back to get it in.

Wow is right! Bitterness?! Not sure what you’re talking about. I have Twitter. I see Coach Lickert’s posts. Just a Keyboard warrior in full effect starting this thread.   Only Bitterness I’m sensing is from @BirdDaddy himself

Honestly, who would want to take the job at Highlands at this point?! Sounds like a hot mess situation to me. Too many men on the ship and everyone wants to be Captain, or maybe just one in particular that’s complicating the process. Guess we’ll never truly know.

Can’t wait to see Lickert settle this nonsense of a post with his success on the hill this year and many years to follow. Go BREDS!

Remember SK had a stellar Poster a few years back...???

It happens with every fan Base!

I like Steve. I think he has done quite well everywhere he has been. And honestly, I figured eventually he would have gotten the Highlands job. If not this time around, then next. He’s only like 40’s right? Plenty of time left to coach at your alma mater. But it is a bad look to go on social media and make comments and hit the “like” button on a retweet of when Highlands BB loses to St Henry. I know heat of the moment but cmon man. #bebetter. Best of luck to Steve up on the hill. I guess what he should be worried more about instead of HHS BB is if any of his coaches apply for assistants for the new Highlands coach.

    Great post Brother!😀

Sounds like it’s not BB V then from that reasoning. I don’t think a college coach would worry about this aspect of telling his current employer/team  that much.

He is the asst Head Coach at Tiffen. He can hire and fire Coaches and Staff members without the Support of his Boss. That's the way I understood his position power. So yes, he may need time to talk to his players. Who knows!

So what’s the hold up at this point to making an announcement JOAT?

Uhhhhhh....maybe to notify his players before it's spewed on here. There is so much incorrect Information floating around in this thread it's Comical. If I'm in trouble for saying that then so be it.

There are places for Confidential Info and this isn't one of them. And right now it's confidential....IMO!

    Maybe Monday!😀
