  1. Some start and some don't. Some get on the field a lot and some rarely get on the field.

However, those that don't play much at all are just as valuable and important to the team as those that do in my opinion. Maybe even more valuable.

You don't have to be a starter or even get on the field to be a leader of a team. Leaders in my opinion are the ones that set the example; that the others look to when times are tough; they are the ones that are the most respected by the coaches, fans and other players.

Its easy to play football at Highlands when you are the star athlete, when you start as an underclassman. But the real people that I respect a lot are the seniors that have busted their tails for 4 years but get little or no playing time; yet they hang in there. That's real leadership to me. Not the jumping up and down before the game; not the "cheerleading" after a big hit or big run. Its the sheer will and dedication that is needed to make it through long days of triple sessions; the sacrifices on Saturday mornings; the gassers and the lost job opportunities knowing along that you'll not probably see the field on Friday night. To me its these kids are the ones that show real leadership.

Sure they'd like to play more, their egos get bruised when some underclassman takes their spot. But rather than quit or cause problems, they suck it up and continue to come to practice and try to the best of their abilities. These are the kids that lead by example, that personify the "no I in team"; and that want desperately for the team to win state and if the coach thinks the chances of that happening are better with the underclassmen starting in front of them, they are able to put their disappointment aside to best support the team.

These are the kids that provide the leadership needed on a young team. When the underclassmen get tired, they need only look at that senior who's at practice busting his tail knowing that he'll be lucky to get into the game on Friday night to find their inspiration to run that last gasser, to look at the scouting report one more time before going to sleep.

We do have a fair number of seniors that unfortunately for them were not blessed with the athletic talent that the good Lord gave some of the underclassmen; but they were given the qualities of persistance, dedication, committment and loyalty to team that make them the best of leaders in my eyes and will make them leaders throughout their lives. And for that, I say thank you.

    Well said :thumb:

  2. It doesn't say on the KHSAA site, just that they host the semi-state. I'm guessing that LexCath will host rounds one and two and travel to Highlands for round three as you say. Providing of course that they both get that far. Of course if LexCath gets past Highlands they would host the semi-state which is a big plus for them.

I believe that is Correct. LexCath would get the Semi-Final Game. If any of the 8 teams in our playoff bracket get to the semi-final game, they will host. No matter who it is.

  3. I think that LexCath will win this game. They are a much better team at home. I hope both teams remain focused and avoid upsets to set up this attractive 3A matchup. If LexCath wins this week and next, I would guess they would face Highlands at LexCath. This may be LexCath's year to get over the hump.

Think again, I believe this is a non travel year for the Higher Seed Nky team. Highlands pretty much put themselves in the driver seat winning last Sat in Park Hills. Providing Highlands takes care of business the next two weeks, Bob Sphire will finally get his chance to coach at storied David Cecil Memorial :thumb:

  4. Hardest hit this year would have to go to Deidenhofer(sp)#11 on a punt return against DeSales Friday. The kid never saw it coming! (I don't think he got hurt)

I was standing about 25 feet away, and my hands went directly to my head hoping both kids would get up quickly!!!!! Couldn't believe that there could be that kind of impact in High School and nobody got hurt. Both players jumped up and started back to there respectful sidelines. It just the DeSales kid thought it was a home game. I could hear #11 from Highlands saying (Volkeswagen) while running off the field. Watch happy gilmore and you will know what i'm talking about. If someone were able to patch that clip of the game online would be a hero. It is definately worth it. :ylsuper: Maybe Stickymitts can get something done ;)

  5. Is this a true Statement? I thought I heard there was freshman from Villa Hills on Highlands freshman team?

You heard right!!!! There is a kid form Villa Hills on the Highlands Freshman Team this year. He has also been participating in the Ft Thomas Jr. league since the fifth grade. Where do you think he should of went CCH :D He also was a front runner for an acedemic scholarship to attend CCH but declined to go to Highlands. Before any CCH posters start freaking out about CCH not giving acedemic scholarships, then why would i be making this up. His father went to Highlands and his mother went to Notre Dame. His boys are being raised to play at their dads alma mater and that is all there is to it.
