  1. Woke up Sat morning in Ft Thomas with about 2-3 Inches of Snow in my part of town. I plow snow on the side so I needed to get up and head to do my 1st job in Newport before they Opened at 10.

I arrived to the Location about 7:30 and there was maybe a 1" of Snow. It's crazy the little bit of Elevation difference from Ft Thomas to Newport makes it that much of an Impact of Snow totals.

Woke up Sunday morning with another Solid 3" in Ft Thomas but that also was the same across the board in the Lower lying surrounding areas. So I would guess 5" on the North side of Ft Thomas from this weekend.:thumb:

  2. He's had NCAA D3 interest in basketball, and I believe a little bit bigger schools for football.

I believe you're correct about Football. The next couple of weeks for Reid Jolly should paint a Clearer picture for his future. Stay tuned! From what I'm hearing it's pretty exciting stuff. I'm keeping my Fingers crossed from the Info I'm hearing....:thumb:

  3. Final from Destin Florida.

Highlands beat a very athletic Charles Henderson H.S. from Troy Alabama.

Ryan Leigh 21 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists

Ben Sisson 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocked shots

    Tristen Thompson 8 points

    Jack Hegge 7 points

Sam Vinson 8 points, 5 assists, Zero Turnovers, 2 rebounds and 2 steals

    Alex Starkey 6 points

    Keep it rolling Birds!:thumb:

  4. Your post implies that Sisson missed the 2nd free throw on purpose. That makes no sense in a tie ball game - they wold always want the lead to avoid going to OT.

Of course HHS would've had a better shot if he had made the free throw. They would have been winning with under 4 seconds to play. They would've had a "better shot" f they had just made a couple more free throws or just one more three throughout the game.

This was a great game and I am looking forward to HHS matching up with Campbell & Cooper, and Newport playing Cooper & Cov Cath as the season progresses.

No I didn't mean to make it sound like he missed it on purpose. Glad you pointed that out! Thanks.....

  5. Nice Monday night crowd, and a doozy of a game.

Sorry so late checking in with game thoughts, but been gabbing on the phone since returning home.

Newport came out on fire and jumped out to an 8 point lead, but then Sisson went to work being a manly force, and began chipping away at that lead to have them back in it by the end of the 1st quarter.

Newport adjusted their pressure on him limiting him with double and triple coverage much in the second, but then the Bird's 3 ball came to life, when initially it looked like for them the game would be all Sisson. Ryan Leigh was connecting, and Sam Vinson was doing a great job handling the point. A couple other Bluebirds were hitting their shots too, but pardon me for not knowing their names.

Newport all the while were playing quite impressively poised with Donnie Miller having a dynamite game at point, and Harding being a man and imposing his will not afraid to muscle it to the hole, and creating even when at times it looked like nothing was there. Newport is a tough talented team, and along with this talent came smart basketball.

Both teams battled hard and very impressively at that and ended the 1st half Newport up by 1, 31-30. While the fast start by the Wildcats gave the impression that they might run away with it, Highlands very impressively changed the narrative to "Not in our house".

3rd quarter again saw them mostly at neck n' neck where it was now apparent that this game would likely go down to the wire, but Newport streaked a bit at the end of the quarter taking a 5 point lead.

When the 4th began, they quickly extended that lead to 9 and it began looking like it might get away from the Birds, but they didn't throw in the towel and turned up the pressure like they were playing for their lives and kept making impressive defensive stops, and steals, and cashing in on them to get the lead back within reach.

Before I get to the ending, I just want to say that if anyone hasn't seen Sisson in action they really need to do themselves a favor and get out to see him in all his might because it is a thing to behold. He is truly a dominant force and perhaps the strongest player this season in the 9th.

But with that said, the Birds are not just a one trick pony and they give him some impressive support.

And it wouldn't be fare if I also didn't say what an incredible team Newport has because in my mind they have it together way more this year than last, and they are chuck full of impressive talent with Maguire, Harding, and Miller leading the way, and also an impressive cast to fill them out with Davis, and Briscoe.

So fighting hard to make it a one possession game, and in the process while pulling it close Sission takes it straight to the hole with a monster dunk. On the possession to tie he tries again to send it home and is fouled and goes to the line with 5 seconds remaining and hits both to knot it up at 64.

Newport dribbles down with Harding heading to the hole where he gets fouled and goes to the line to put them ahead 66-64 with :0.04 seconds remaining on the clock.

Highland's only chance now was a full court Hail Mary pass intended for Sisson, but the Wildcats defused that aplenty with 1000 hands, and it was game over.

The packed house was treated to such an incredible Monday night game in the 9th as they saw two very good teams play their guts out while showing that this region is much deeper than many would like to believe.

Don't dare sleep on either one of these two teams, not even a wink.

Sisson missed the 2nd Free throw as it would of made it 65-64 in Highlands favor. IMO, I think it would given Highlands a better shot had he made the 2nd Free throw to set up a Defense rather than let Harding grab the rebound and take off up the Court and draw the cheap foul.

The pressure for Harding from Newport to make One Free throw to tie rather than shooting to win the game is a little different. Again IMO!

Would of could of should of right? Very nice post by you by the way!

  6. I wish Ryan Leigh from Highlands would of gotten off to a better start last night. I think he was 0-5 from behind the Arc in the 1st quarter alone. He normally knocks down at least 2-3 of those on any given night. They were all open looks as well! But like they say, keep shooting it will start to fall. And they did!

I thought both teams played extremely hard for all 4 quarters. I did see that both Conner & Cooper players were in the House to see the Freak himself in person.

Ben Sisson may only be 6'-5" but plays much taller than that. Does anybody have the number on how many Block Shots he had? At Least a half dozen that I can remember.

Donnie Miller is a smooth Cat...No pun intended!

At what point does Coach Snapp form Newport need some CPR? My goodness! I know he's over the top but he almost Stroked out last night. He got very lucky when he approached the scores table late in the game and punched it. It was Technical worthy...IMO! He did it within 2:00 left in a 1-2 possession game as well. Very lucky!

This isn't the Highlands teams of old from the last half decade! Not even close....

  7. BullyBirds is right...If the officials let this game be a football game like the Cov Cath game was then Highlands wins. If they actually make the teams play basketball, I'll take Newport.

Might just have to wear my #bullybirds shirt tonight! I actually have one....

They way Highlands plays it actually reminds me of a Covington Turners League game. So don't act like the CCH players have never dealt with a little Physical contact once or twice.

It even gets Physical over at the Friars Club(Oh) for any CCH kid who hasn't experienced Turners. Certainly the CCH players have played there!

  8. Maybe just maybe Highlands deserves a little Credit where credit is due? Maybe now Highlands has Skilled enough players to compete rather than just dealt & played with what was walking the Halls. I have watched the last couple of years of players coming through and this is without a doubt Listermans most talented and hardworking group of kids since he has been at Highlands. They may or may not make some noise come Regional time but they no longer are being held Hostage with players. They have kids that are finally willing to put in the extra work knowing that it's no longer just fill the roster with bodies and I will play by default kind of kids. They actually have some high level skill players now. Maybe not as skilled as you mentioned but certainly higher than they have had in the past. Sometimes graduation is a good thing. It allows most parties the opportunity to move forward to a new day rather than be stuck in some type of Quagmire of a Fantasy.

Isn't that a little harsh? Highlands has had plenty of talent the last 3-4 years. Maybe not enough to compete like they are now. I like to think of things as a Marathon and not a Sprint. I think Kevin Listerman and Coaches do a unbelievable job. Who am I kidding, one's my Brother In Law! Highlands success just didn't happen overnight. They have been building this team for a few years now. I commend the players who have "Trusted the Process" Go Birds!

  9. Still hearing details coming in from the “In the know” out of Bracken Co. and they are telling me that the Two animals arrested tried to Dismember the Deceased after they Brutally beat him. Very disturbing! Loss for words right now....

Praying for my guy Jimbo! It’s hard to talk about because of mine and his relationship we had. I know I haven’t talked to him in quite some time but my Coworkers interacted with him daily so it’s very discomforting. But sometimes talking about it helps with the healing.

  10. This really hits home for me. James “Jimbo” Gordley worked for me for about 7-8 years as a Mechanic.

He had to step away about 3 years ago due to some Health Issues. Was always a hard worker but did battle some domestic issues along the way.

Some of the details I’m hearing about the situation are really disturbing.

    RIP Jimbo!

  11. I am taking a guess. Did Evans rearrange the letters in another word to get Ergon?

    Yes....

I have a feeling that's what did him in. Doing what Evans Inc. was doing is bad enough but to basically throw it back into the Face(s) of the Government and the City of Cincinnati is another with how he named the company.

I was told that he use to Brag about it to Employees not really thinking that it would come back to haunt him some day. I'm hearing that all 4 former High Level Office members that included Jordan(Ergon's fictitious owner) testified that "Ergon" was scrambled for another word.

    That's just plain Dumb! IMO.....

  12. No experience with this individual, but have obviously seen their vehicles on the road. Very well known company in NKY/Greater Cincinnati. With that being said are there examples of what makes this guy such a horrible person? Just bc he may be a horrible person to work for he is trying to run a business.

Side note: if my old boss (who I still hate 8 years later) paid me to show up to court, I’d be there. Better than working in the cold

Not only was he found guilty of Stealing from the Government but mocking the system by creating the company name “Ergon” IMO!

No telling what he’s done to his Common customer and hard working Employees. I’m sure there more to the story like there always is. Sounds like a stand up guy in my Eyes!

Insert a “Dump” truck load of sarcasm.
