  1. Dunn is not established? Ross they probably would laugh at but we may have seen his best so get while the getting is good. Heck I'm for Griffey & Dunn for A-Rod.

Why would the Yankees want 2 more outfielders? Damon, Cabrea, Matsui, Abreu then Griffey and Dunn..That would be crazy. And I'm not a Reds fan but it would make me sad to see ARod come to cincy. The team has chemistry now but if you add A-Rod to the mix then you're taking away any of that chemistry you had built up as a team. And with that chemistry gone who knows what could happen to the other teammates, they could turn against one another.

  2. ...That does my heart good, welcome to the family....

    Agree 100%...:thumb:

I always tell my players, if you put the ball in play, that 3 things have to happen.

    1) A player has to field or catch, an infield grounder

    2) Player has to throw to a base

    3) Another player has to catch the throw

....I'll take my chances, on the above over a K any day. Outs need to be productive, to be effective.

I guess great minds think alike!

  3. I agree. I also think that Sheffield & Giambi contribute to a lot of the turmoil that seem to follow the Yankees. I don't agree with players calling out other players in the media. A real leader & team player does it one on one behind closed doors with the teams best intentions in mind when doing so.

Not only calling out other players in the media but Sheffield was the idiot who called out Torre after game 4 and said it was his fault that the Yankees lost that game. Sheffield is a clubhouse cancer, has been ever since he entered this league. I remember back when the Braves got him from the Dodgers, he said the same thing any player says when they get traded to a good team "I always dreamed about playing for Atlanta, I was hoping to get drafted by them". Then what does he says 2 weeks before October a year later. "I question this teams desire to win in the finals weeks of the season". It's stupid things like that, that makes teams not want him anymore.

  4. Well said my friend and 1-year, incentive based contracts would help all athletes and their performances. Fans bear the burden of carrying these salaries and then, often teams must be dismantled and move to the bottom of the ladder, as a result of not being able to afford players.

It's been a while, for us Detroit fans since we've had something to cheer about. Leyland was the key, to what Tramel had begun.

  5. The announcers were discussing last night, that Maccha doesn't like to advance runners or put things in motion.

Pitching and timely hitting, carried them when they were on the hot streak.

Almost like it does with any team. But it goes to show it's almost a have too, to play small ball and just simply advance the baserunners from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. Ya know something I tell people that are just starting out playing baseball. "Making contact with the ball gives you a 50% chance of getting on base because anything could happen, but a strikeout on the other hand does nothing to advance the runner". It would be in the Reds best interest to trade Dunn for more contact players and some pitching. Don't always need a homerun to win a game!

  6. From my understanding of the game last night, the A's were down there at the bottom of the first two. Does your stats show exactly where they finished?

Oakland finished 20th in the majors with runners in scoring position scoring 570 runs.

With runners in scoring position with 2 outs they finished tied for 13th with the Angels scoring 240 runs.

And with no one on they finished 18th with 99 runs.

  7. The Reds need him, they had entirely too many K's this year. Which is an aspect of the game, that is essential to winning, advancing baserunners.

I've heard during many of the playoff games, the announcers discussing how important it is, to advance runners into scoring position. A GB out to the 2nd basemen, with a man on 2nd base, is a productive at-bat, with less than 2 outs.

Hitting behind the runner, when they are running or a hit-and-run is called, is key to moving from 1st to 3rd. The Reds, did not have productive at-bats when they could have moved a runner up or bunted them over.

To get RBI's, the runners must be in scoring position, via basestealing or advancing them, which the Reds were very weak at in my opinion. I wonder how they compared to the rest of the NL, in team K's.

Here is some stats to help your case.

The Reds were last in the majors with runners in scoring position with 2 outs only scoring 198 runs over the season. Atlanta was 1st with 265.

The Reds were 3rd to last in the majors with runners in scoring position scoring 525 runs over the season only in front of Milwaukee who scored 522, and tampa bay who scored 467.

The Reds were 1st in the Majors in scoring with no one on base totaling 132 runs with Atlanta finishing 2nd with 131.

  8. Zumaya and Rodney, have overpowering FB's and good offspeed stuff, to be dominant in the closer roles.

If the Reds could land either, it would be an excellent addition. I don't see the Tigers parting with either, since they've gone with youth and a selected mix of veterans.

Yeah I was getting ready to say the same thing. I doubt the Reds would part ways with those two young pitchers. Right now I don't think the Tigers would really trade anyone with how their team is clicking. They show great team chemistry and work as a true team and they really deserve to be here. The Yankees were the complete opposite, you could tell that even in game 1 of the ALDS it wasn't a team effort that almost everyone out there, with the exception of Jeter, is out for theirselves.

  9. Zito and Harren, are the keys to this series. If Detroit can get on top early against both or either, forcing them into the bullpen they've got a good chance, to take away home field advantage.

If Detroit has a letdown after bypassing the Yankees, it could be over in 5. I'm a Detroit fan and Leyland, should/will keep them focused. Game #3 of this series and any, are the keys to me. Being up 2-1 or 3-0, is a huge difference.

If the Tigers gets game #1 or #2, then Detroit in 6. If A's win both, A's in 7.

Not only Zito and Haren but Rich Harden is a factor because if he is able to pitch than he can be very effective when healthy!

  10. It is just my opinion, I think that Torre walks away from the game. If he does, MLB loses an ambassador to the game.

I doubt he'll manage again. Probably wants to take time off, he's been in the game for a long time and recently has encountered a lot more stress than usual and it might be getting to him. He should just walk away, and if he does then he'll get a standing ovation on his way out.

  11. Yeah I just saw on Fox a few minutes ago that Lou said he hasnt even spoken to anyone with the Yankees.

Well I would say that may be true to an extent. There is a sort of professionalism still intact. I mean I don't expect Lou to say yes I've talked to the Yankees about managing them next year, especially not until they officially get rid of Torre as manager. They are giving Torre time to resign before they actually let him go. It's probably in the works but no one will say anything until Torre is out.

  12. He will be an Angel before it's over with, I believe it's pretty doubtful that he'll end up with an NL team.

Here's a little tidbit of info about AROD. Before he signed with Texas he was originally headed to Atlanta because back at that time the Braves were still owned by Ted Turner but in the end Texas upped the money alot more than the Braves were willing and that was that.

  13. His coatract is doable because the Rangers are still paying over half of it. If the Bankees eat even more, the team he goes to will be paying less than $10 million of the $25 million per year...

Thanks for adding the part of the Rangers, I had completely forgot that they were still paying on it too. :thumb:

  14. The guy's a great coach. He's proven it. But money does not always buy championships. And the Yankees seem to think that all you have to do is throw money in the mix and it will equal a world championship. Paying players like A-Rod zillions of dollars only means you have a spoiled, over-paid player who has so much money he has lost the initiative to excell at his sport.

That's true when lots of money is involved then nothing can go right. I mean I actually used to like A-Rod when he was with Seattle and even when he was with Texas because he seemed to play baseball for fun and he seemed to always have a good time even if he was on a losing team. Now that he's a Yankee he is very serious acting and isn't able to handle the pressure that is being put on him. For his sake he should want out of New York and try and find his former self and remember how baseball is supposed to be played.

  15. The Angels said first hand that if the Yankees are willing to part ways with him then they definitely want him on their team. I could see him fittin in with the Angels because there really isn't a lot of media pressure surrounding him and he would be back on the west coast where he started his baseball days. Expect the Angels to part with one of their young pitchers and some other prospects. The yankees will probably want atleast 2 pitchers for him, one including Ervin Santana and some other pitcher or pitching prospect. The A-Rod trade is doable now because his contract is 2 or 3 years less than what it started out with and I assume that the Yankees will eat some of that contract in order to ship him out the door.

  16. They are not trading the MVP from one year ago. Torre has lead them to 12 straight Division wins (Bobby Cox). He is staying. Pitching is what we need. Maybe we can buy those two Tiger pitchers.

You're wrong, Joe Torre has led the Yankees to 9 consecutive division titles, not 12.
