  1. I look for Carpenter to pitch like Schilling did in game 6 with the bloody sock. He's going to throw everything he has and leave it all on the field. He should be pitching this game as if it were game 7 of the World Series. He will pitch solid tonight and I think the Cardinals will win and hold the Mets to no more than 2 runs. Final score:

    Cards-3

    Mets-1

  2. Great win by St. Louis and Weaver has definitely brought his A game to the postseason. He has pitched really well especially in the first inning of tonights game when he had 2 runners on. Definitely has a higher composure than what I thought he did. I'm proud of him though, he's been through a lot this season.

  3. I think, he's lost a step or two in his running speed and hard to tell, but that usually translates into lateral movement as well.

Perhaps he can, make the move back to SS if ever given an opportunity.

It's hard to judge, it's just one of those things in where I'm sure he'd work 100% harder to get the oppportunity to play SS again and if it doesn't work out then he can go back to 3rd, but if he is ever traded I think he'll want 1st shot at playing SS. He has probably lost a step or two because at 3rd he hasn't had to dive as much and he probably would have to work on the throw going away from him, but he would atleast try. He deserves a shot anyway!

  4. I believe A-Rod, would certainly benefit from playing in Wrigley but do you think, he's lost any lateral mobility from being at 3rd....

Do you think SVF, that A-Rod could still play SS, at the MLB caliber that would be necessary?

You know, I really couldn't tell you, but I do know that would be what he would want, and I'm sure he would try. 3rd is a longer distance to 1st so maybe he would still have the arm to throw but I would say it would take time to get him back in the groove of things. It would be a toss up and it's hard. If it were me I would try to see A-Rod at SS because he felt more natural there and it may cut down on his errors and up his production. Boost his self confidence.

  5. Has to be considered, one of the best Managers in MLB. Not sure of his won/lost record, but how many other accomplished what the Braves did, the last 13-14 years.

In researching Cox, he's won over 100 games....6 times in his career.

You are correct, and to add to that he has won between 90-99 games 7 times with the Braves and once with the Blue Jays. in 25 years as a manager he has only had 5 losing seasons.

He has 2171 wins and 1685 losses. Winning % of .563

He ranks 5th on the all-time wins list as a manager only behind

    1) Connie Mack 3731

    2) John McGraw 2763

    3) Tony LaRussa 2297

    4) Sparky Anderson 2194

  6. In another thread we were discussing the best highschool football/basketball player ever in Kentucky... Of course Tim Couch's name came up a lot and deservedly so.

But my question is Tim Couch the biggest bust/flop ever in the NFL?

IMO being a #1 pick and having the career Couch did only compares to the outlandish Brian Bosworth... but I still think Couch top's the list.

    Your thoughts.

I see that you're new so I guess they'll let it slide, but this is brought up atleast once a month and it's clear that he's nowhere near the biggest NFL bust of all-time. Ryan Leaf is my choice. Couch on the other hand had decent seasons when he played he was just put in a terrible situation. He had no offensive line to protect him, and at that time he had no real WR's to throw too.

  7. Excellent info and Dunn, has to eliminate the K's, to increase his production and efficiency.

He has the potential to be an outstanding player but right now I still just see him as a slightly above average player. His K's and poor average and not so stellar defense still make him a financial liability for the Reds. If he keeps this pace they will definitely trade him before his contract runs out.

  8. ESPN reports saying his family might not even know, as they are travelling on another plane.

It really doesn't make it any easier on them, but knowing that they have no idea what's going on, and are continuing to live ther lives... It's heartbreaking.

Yes, that makes it even worse because to them they may have been on their way from just seeing him, or on their way to see him. Either way it makes this situation that much more devastating and heartbreaking.

  9. Word is it was his plane. There is no word if he was on it. Maybe the Yankees are doomed after the Red Sox beat them in seven a few years back.

It's not really appropriate to relate this situation to baseball & the Red Sox. It's very sad to see this happen and one can only hope that the good lord is watching over his family right now and helping them get through this very sad time. My prayers are with the Lidle family.

  10. The Reds need to examine this stat closely before they enter the winter meetings!

Adam Dunn RISP stats for 2006.

    Runners on: 87 K's in 235 AB's. 37%

    Scoring Pos: 48 K's in 136 AB's. 35%

    Scoring Pos 2 out: 19 K's 65 AB's. 29%

    runners on 2 out: 37 K's 109 AB's. 33%

    Runner on 3rd w/2 out: 9 K's in 20 AB's. 45%

    Runner on 2nd: 15 K's in 48 AB's. 31%

    Bases empty: 107 K's in 326 AB's. 32%

    Close & Late games: 27 K's in 76 AB's. 36%

  11. Not to argue but GM's are usually involved, when coaching changes occur, since the contracts are with the owners and certainly, the Manager has input.

Sometimes, coaches leaves on their own but in the case of termination of 75% of the coaching staff, with the Manager leaving....it's usually not a vote of confidence for longevity.

Then, when the public "I've got total confidence in Manager_ _ _ " happens, the writing is on the wall.

Right I'm not saying they aren't, I was just trying to give a scenario in which one might not be sayin the managers job is on the line..I see your point though!

  12. From Lance's blog

    How did he do?

Reds team numbers with Chris Chambliss

    Year--Avg-ab's--bb's--k's---w/Risp

    2006 .257-5515-614-1192-.243

    2005 .261-5565-611-1303-.256

    2004 .250-5518-599-1335-.248

    Previous to Chambliss

    2003 .245-5509-524-1326-.250

    2002 .253-5470-583-1188-.231

    *************

Hmmm, team walks went up each of his three years

team k's went down each of his three years

    avg/RISP was poor

Those RISP averages show me that the Reds front office isn't focused on the right thing to get this team where they need to be to compete for the Central. I know they competed this year until the final week but with a decent RISP average then who knows, they may have been in the postseason.

  13. Not to question GM Krivsky and I'm certain, managers get input....but in most professional sports businesses, Managers make recommendations but GM's, have the final say....why have them otherwise, with the exception to separate in negotiations.

Seems like Krivsky is giving a lot of responsibility to Narron as the manager. If I was the GM I would want the managers input and everything on coaches he would like to bring in, but for me I would have to have the final say because just like everyone knows it's a business and you want to win.

  14. Generally when shake-up moves like this happen, the next axe to fall is usually on the neck of the Manager....Might have been the 'ole...."You bring in the guys to get it done or you're done"....type of private speech and then gloss it over, in the public/media.

I'm like GT, this is interesting and I thought it wouldn't start, till after the WS.

    ....Oh My :sssh:

But not in all cases. Bobby Cox shook up a lot of their coaches. The bullpen Coach, and the bench coach, and maybe one other. I know Gonzalez left for the Marlins so that was another empty spot. But then again I'm not trying to compare Bobby Cox to Narron either...lol

  15. I am a Reds fan. I think they are going to shake things up. How? I don't know, but who do they have that they can trade and get some value in return? 1) Dunn 2) ?

I hope they don't trade Harang or Arroyo.

I'm sure Dunn is on the trading block and I'm sure they have another player included in some package deal. Who yet I dunno?
