  1. With the completion of volleyball season that saw the Lady Eagles win their 1st Regional title and progress in the State Tournament all the way to the Final Four, three key players return to the basketball court today. On the down side, with very little time before the first scrimmage and only 3 weeks before the 1st game they will need to shift gears and get up to speed fast. On the up side, Riding the high of their first trip to the dance and building off last seasons success look for the girls to hit the ground running looking to carry the volleyball success into the basketball season.

    Good Luck Lady Eagles !:thumb:

  2. I would agree with the top 3. Then ND, Ryle, Conner, Beechwood will all make some noise and could beat any of the top 3 on any given night and even make a run at the region if they got hot. Then you have NCC, ST Henry, Boone, Cooper and Dixie that are nothing to overlook either! That's why I think this region top to bottom should be VERY competitive and fun to watch every night.

    PS...Yes Clyde...still campaigning!

I just don't see anyone walking off with anything in this region. You better be ready to bring your A Game every night and you better have a deep bench that can play. Can't wait , how many more days ? :thumb:

  3. She was with the royals and then switched to 6th grade stars She plays with whoever she can get a game in with. Awesome kid. I watched her 10 times. Highly skilled great basketball IQ. I have seen her get shut down however by quick fast and physical players. Saw her at ockerman play last vs a team and she was shut down but also had little or no help.

Ok , I know who she is now. She's a very nice little player for her age. But making the jump into a Varsity Line Up, not sure if she's quite ready for that yet. I can see her playing at the high school level.

  4. Her game is much, much elevated over the past year IMO. I did see her play with and against the girls you mentioned, probably 20 times over the last 6 months ... handle, shooting and defensively, not even close IMO. This summer, against some very good 8th grade AAU teams (Bridget Williams All-Stars) she was the best player on the floor. I think you may be surprised ....

Just wondering what AAU team she played for and what age group ?

  5. St, Henry could slide in under the radar and knock off a couple of the elite teams to move up. With a couple nice pitchers returning and a solid core of players. Add in 3 or 4 new players with a little varsity experience and select ball. Could be an interesting year for the Cru ! :thumb:

  6. Does D1 scholarship automatically mean she is better than the other girls right now? Or even some that were left off?

No not at all , its just kind of an interesting point to discuss. But on the other hand , isn't D1 the Highest Level in the College Ranks ? And what you would be telling me is a athlete that only plays at maybe a D3 level ( nothing wrong with that at all ) is better than one that lands a D1.

  7. How is the Neace girl from St. Henry not better than the 10th rated player in the region? Did she not land a Division 1 scholly?

Interesting Point , how many girls on the list landed D1 scholarships ?

  8. 1st you will never hear me say top player. Yes the player that was the leading scorer left the program. However, that player also led the team in turnovers and not by a small margin either. Whether it was court vision or a different agenda, i know of a couple of games where it either cost Scott the game or came close. But the biggest improvement will come from a better distribution of the ball. Their is a ton of young talent on the team from the freshman Stapleton and Clephane, to the sophomore class of Davis, Stevers, and Wagner and on up through the junior and senior classes. Better distribution will make them harder to defend as you will see multiple players attacking the basket instead of one. Distribution will lead to fresher legs allowing for a faster pace. Lastly distribution will enhance even more an already upbeat team moral as more players are involved. Like I said before whether this years team surpasses last years or not I can't say. It will take a few games to get the team gelled especially since 3 of the players could possibly be involved with volleyball into the post season. But either way IMO this will be an exciting season of Lady Eagle Basketball and hopefully a lot of fun to watch.

I can see Scott being a lot better this year just because they where so young the past couple of years. They had a lot of freshman and sophomores in the rotation on the Varsity Level . The JV Team was very strong last year also. But they did lose a couple nice guards that will hurt the depth of the team.
