Ok, this is what I am trying to say; If your boss gives you a huge raise doesn't he expect something huge back in return. UL is a top 17-15 program with B & B. Will Petrino be able to take UL to a top 5 program (which is what he being paid for) without them? Without 80-100,000 seat stadium,without a ton of in-state D-1 prospects? He has done great to get the program where it is. Can he take it to another level or 2 which is expected. I think it will be very difficult and if the program does not move up is he then overpaid? I am saying the heat is on!

That's my point.He has to step up and recruit with the big boys now because that is what he is being paid to do. Can he bring in top 10 classes every year like his peers?We will see. I am a longtime UL season ticket holder and I have my doubts UL can take a step or 2 up from the current level.

He is 0-1 in bowl games with Cantwell,Smith,Stripling so I think its wise so say the jury is still out. He is now in a position where he can never have an off season with that salary. Let's see what he does when his windfall of local talent has departed and he is measured against the top 4 programs in the nation as he should be due to the compensation package. Will he put UL in the top 5 every year, will he bring in top 5 classes, will they be in a BCS bowl every year? We will see, but the pressure an expectations have just gone way way up.

Thanks Ox for this important information on Louisville and St.X high school football history. Sometimes things are more important than wins and losses. Ironically St.X and Central played many,many years and the Tigers may be the only school in Jefferson county the Yellowjackets have never beaten.

I think this puts him clearly in the middle of a pressure cooker. With big $ comes big expectations. If the program slips after the Bush/Brohm era then the heat is on! He is good, but is he that good? 2 or 3 years from now we will know the answer.

I think the excitement for this years game will exceed that of last year's game due to the close outcome last year and the expectations for each team in 06. I can't wait!Just hope it is a bit cooler this year.

I agree RM, that would mean only 4 programs had successful season. A title is just not the only measure of true success.

The natural grass surface would not be able to hold up under the strain of 4 straight games especially if the weather is bad.

The Tiger offensive line will be more explosive and athletic than last years OL, I think they will be a much better unit than last year.I also believe the QB job is in very capable hands with Zoeller, he will be pushed by Wade and a couple of sophs.

I agree. This is one of those years that St.X will be young and inconsistant early in the season. I would not be surprised if the Tigers dropped an early season game or two then hit stride.

I don't know enough about the teams outside Jefferson county to make a top 10 list but I do think the rocks should start out at #1 this year.

There will not be many passes in this game. Both teams will play good defense and try to pound away. St.X should have a very potent running game this year with Vic,Duece,Eckman, & co.they will be extremely strong (they have been putting up some unbelieveable numbers in the weight room and just won another national powerlifting title)but they are very young and have a new QB. BG has Hibbit and he is worth a couple of TD's. Make it 21-14 Tigers.

OK Ky high school basketball officially stinks. Can it get even worse? Why no good teams and players any more? I don't get it football keeps getting better. Is that the reason?

Yes they do and it will have not only 2 top teams but 2 of the very best running backs and Mr.Football contenders. Should be a dandy.
