  1. I plan on catching a little of the Simon/NCC scrimmage at Beechwood on the 5th. If Simon is as good as these players believe Simon should handle NCC by at least two touchdowns.

I hope Simon is much improved. It will make NKY 4A all the more interesting.

How do you think they will match up. NCC has a big o-line and I think they might have a team speed advantage.

  2. I agree with the last part--it will be a great game for both teams.

If people were saying the same thing about last years game with Pikeville--it wasn't me . . . . (at least--I hope not). And this year IS different for the following reasons:

    1. IMO--Belfry is better than Pikeville

    2. Belfry is a different type of team than Pikeville

    3. NCC--has some inexperience at key positions--#1 being QB--this will be a great game to get through some growing pains--but there will be some pain--for sure (and that is true for both teams this early).

    4. I have heard that NCC has a new D-Coordinator--(not sure if this is 100% true--so bear with me)--if it is--the Bone (as Belfry runs it) will be "interesting" to game plan against.

    5. Belfry has big game experience. Pikeville didn't. I think that Belfry isn't going to be enamored or shellshocked the way that Pikeville quickly became.

    6. Belfry is very fundamentally sound--which is something that NCC has issues with (offensively and defensively).

    7. Belfry has one of the best coaching staffs in the state (and that is the truth). They will have a game plan (offensively and defensively) that is designed to win the game--just like NCC.

Again--I am not saying that NCC won't win this game. I have a great deal of respect for their program. They are a great team. I don't expect any different this year. But Belfry's has played just as good of football (IMO--and I have broken down a lot of football the last few years) as NCC.

I just think that right now, NCC has a couple question marks that need to be answered before they roll or even win this game. That could be answered in the preseason scrimmages--or after this game. But--I promise you--this shouldn't be a foregone conclusion that NCC wins this game.

I asked and the d-cordinator is still coach Wagner. I had not heard that they had a new one so I wanted to find out.

  3. You gotta love the Trading Places reference--I respect your opinion, Sticky--but I can't say that I agree with the second part.

Beechwood/NCC has become a rivarly in the last 5-6 years. And usually--the better team wins (with a few exceptions). And that is also true with CCH/Highlands. (Again--with a few exceptions). It comes down to the fact that the better team wins the vast majority of the time. It may not be the most talented team--but the "better" team. The rivalry angle is something that I don't buy into--because that goes along the lines that the best team doesn't win as much as they should.

On topic--This is a very interesting game.

Gametime--I love to read your work--but I think I would avoid meeting any Belfry fan after the game--because this one may turn out differently than you think. If Belfry can capitalize on NCC's lack of experience--and play their normal brand of hard nose defense--they have a just as good of a chance to win this game.

I know that NCC is good--but again--being "nearsighted Northern Kentuckians" is not going to help NCC (or their fans) in this game. If Belfry controls the ball--they win. It will force the new NCC qb into rushing the passing game--which doesn't work for NCC (they are best when they can use the run to set up the pass--as opposed to vice versa--like most people think).

Not to mention--they are probably one of the more physical teams that NCC is going to see this year.

If Belfry controls the ball, But if NCC's Defensive line is as good as last years, I think that it will be tough for them. NCC played Ryle last year and They tried ball control and the time of posession(sp?) was heavily in NCC's favor.

  4. 1 Danville

    2 Beechwood

    3 NCC

    4 Mayfield

    5 Pikeville

    6 Louisville Holy Cross

    7 Lexington Christian Academy

    8 Lynn Camp

    9 Somerset

    10 Bardstown

    10 tie Frankfort

Wow! State Champs at #3. I think they are #1 until somebody beats them. I know it is a new year But NCC has alot coming back.

  5. I don't think that any of us are forgetting about it. I just think that some of us (with an unbiased viewpoint) have seen Belfry play before--and know that they have a few kids coming back as well.

NCC may very well win this game--but in my humble opinion--this is a very dangerous game for NCC if Belfry has any success running the ball at all. (Ball control could hurt NCC's momentum with a new QB. Especially considering the fact that this will be the first game for a new NCC qb (and I am aware that all available NCC qb's do have more than just a little football skill). The offense line will help NCC--but Belfry is going to play solid, fundamental ball control football.

Belfry has the potential to rough NCC up a little bit. From past dealings--they are a pretty physical team--playing pretty close to home.

I just don't see this as the definite domination that my little brother mak sees . . . . . .

Regardless--I think it will be a great game to start out the year. And it is a definite step up in scheduling for NCC.

I never said NCC would dominate,I said I look for them to win. I do agree that belfry is a good team and it will be a good game.

  6. Well I believe that most might be forgetting that NCC is returning 4 out of 5 starters from the state championship line, and also returning a RB that rushed for over 1400 yards last season. They will be very good against the run and I believe they will be very balanced on offense. Look for NCC to win and have a great season.

  7. This thread is okay for this season, but since the thread is about '07, watch out. jk! It does take some kids attention, but don't think it will hold water with this one. Good kid/ football player with a great attitude. The real issue will be about the guy taking the shotgun snaps handing him the ball. I was really immpressed at the way the NCC kids conducted themselves during the region game last year. Thought LCA was a better team, as did most of the people who knew about their talent, but NCC was just simply WAY more prepared for not only that game, but a run at the title.

Jarred Harris will be the Qb this year.Michael and Jarred Have been playing football together since the third grade.I know this is not peewee ball,But they are familiar with taking snaps and handing the ball off between them.they are two good kids who play hard and IMO they will be very good this year.

  8. Getting back on topic though, I think it will be very difficult for NewCath to repeat this year. One reason, as mentioned earlier, is their schedule. Losing Diehl and both WR's will be very tough to replace. But in general, I think that the district itself is better from top to bottom. Beechwood will still be Beechwood, even with a new head coach. Bellevue is an up and coming team with a great coach. Holy Cross, Ludlow, and Dayton are all getting better and may be able to muster up enough to give someone a scare. Not to mention the rest of the state......

Its difficult for any team to repeat. I think NCC can do it though,Harris is a good QB and will be just fine replacing Deihl. As far as WR's go We have one returning starter an several more that are very capeable.I doubt the offense will be any different than last year, and the D will be very good on the line.If there is a weak link, I think it will be D-backs.

  9. Does anyone have any info on the Pike County Bowl? Just Wondering about Game times and Who NCC plays. I beleive they will play Belfry,But I am not positive. Also Belfry played at home last year on Sat instead of at Pike County, will they play at home again this year?
