    10. Newport

#4 through #8 are pretty even IMO.

After NCC beat SK and Dixie both. You could make the arguement for Campbell or Boone,But NCC should be above the rest.4 thru 8 that is,if you think Beechwood is a clearly better than those teams.

  2. NCC is not #3. They lose to Ryle, Beechwood and Covcath. Sorry to my Bred friends, but last year is over. It's not 84. It's not 2005. You might be wanting for awhile for another one. There's always the year 2025.

Once again you have no clue what you are talking about.Your name should be (talks aimlessly) instead of free thinker. 3 out of the last 6 years the breds were in the state final.

  3. No offense but NCC wasn't close to moving the ball effectively against Belfry with the run. When half of Vicars yards came on one carry which resulted in a fumble at the end of it , then it is safe to say the Pirates put the clamps down.

As for this one,,, I just don't think that the Wildcats will have the depth and physicality to defeat the Breds. I also cant picture Newport being nearly as quick or fundamentally sound as Belfry's defense.

    NCC 28

    Newport 20

No offence taken but the first run of the second half was 6 yards and the 2nd one was seven the third one was 27 before the fumble then they held him to one yard on the 4th one.all pretty effective to me.they passed on every down the rest of the third and half of the 4th after that.

  4. First good luck to NCC. They are a classy program and I wish them the best. As for their passing game being down I dunno about that. There qb threw the ball pretty well if you ask me. Id love to have him on my team. Belfry just had a really good defense. NCC was big and strong on the lines so they will be ok.

He definitly throws a nice pass, there is no question. But there is more to it than that.Timing is not there right now. They really need to stick to short passes early to establish that. They threw way to many long passes in the belfry game or (IMHO) there would have been a different outcome. They will get all this cleared up and they will be very tough down the stretch. They were able to move the ball with the short pass and the run against Belfry but got away from that in the 2nd quarter. Then in the third quarter done the exact same thing. In the 4th late went back to it and scored.

  5. To expand on my last post. Nobody would say OC, Lloyd 03', Russell 04', or Pburg 03',04' were poor run defense teams.

That being said. There is some ground on which to make a claim THIS Pirate team can be stopped. It is game 1 and they have not proven any ability to move the ball thus far this season. Still 87 yds? Ludlow will rush for that against the Breds.

I doubt Ludlow will, but one thing i do know ludlow did not stop NCC in 03.As a matter of fact NCC beat Lloyd by more tham 40 points and did it by running with Kevin Smith.

  6. NCC has 63 players on the roster (Sophs/ Jrs/ Srs). One sidenote is that both teams subbed extensively. For example, NCC's Vickers played much less than he would have if it was a real game. Split time at RB, only played a couple of plays on defense (will play DB more if needed in the season), was not in on most punts or KO's returns.

Do you think there is a big drop-off after Vicars or are they pretty close.

  7. come friday night the real 4a teams will show up.Simon kenton and Dixies starters handled NCC first team.Lets get it on Friday night:fight:

I was at both scrimmages and NCC's varsity beat both Dixie's and Simon's varsity. With that being said, Dixie and Simon will both be very good this year.I have no clue why people are being so crazy about this.Last year NCC beat Ryle in the regular season,They can play with any 4A team in NKY. in my opinion. Why does it have to be a disgrace to lose to a good program like NCC or Beechwood. It makes no sense to me at all.

  8. You are to funny. It would be a suprise if Dixie didnt KILL NCC. Anytime a 4A school plays a 1A school it shouldnt even be close. You guys crack me up. Go ahead and get exited about playing NCC. If you dont kill them you should be embarassed. Game of the year. To funny. Dixie is good, dont get me wrong but they should be playing other 4A schools to get ready for the season like Highlands is playing Male. Now that is a scrimmage game. Last week you played Connor 3A which is down and this week tiny New Cath. Dont mean to rain on your parade. Go ahead get excited. Go get em Dixie, beat that 1A school. Next year schedule some Ohio big schools or some large schools in Louisville. Give Bishop Brossart a call I heard they needed a scrimmage and maybe Latin School might start a football program. Dont get me wrong, I like Dixie and I know they are going to be good, but come on, do a better job of scheduling scrimmages.

Hopefully you are being sarcastic, otherwise I would be embarrassed.

  9. Kind of off topic here but I thought Simon looked slightly better than NCC in the first half. I thought Simon could have run the ball right down NCC's throat had they wanted to but the Simon coaching staff did the smart thing and worked on balancing their attack. I really think these two teams are pretty close to being even.

I am looking forward to the Dixie/NCC scrimmage, as some other said this is always a good one even if it is only a warm up game for the main event that night. :D

Agreed, NCC was very sloppy in the first half on OFF. and Def. second half was the exact opposite.

  10. What I would like to know--does Sting mean the above statement (the "In the second half NCC opened it up . . . ." as in--opened up the offense--or opened up owning the game?

I only ask because--from my view point--NCC had a hard time moving the ball through the air. Where as in the 2nd half--they moved the ball down the field with the run (exclusively).

Sorry. Poor description on my part. At the beginning of the 3rd, NCC began ripping holes through SK's defense. They had two jumbo OLmen (#76 & 78 I believe) that just out muscled SK down the field. A couple of us at the game discussing this wondered why they didn't do this earlier, unless NCC was doing this on purpose working on their air game heavy in the first half.

actually NCC did not do bad moving the ball in the first half. They just were not finishing.3 times inside the 25 yard line then penalties, sacks or just dropped passes. Regardless it doesn't matter if you just move the ball you have to score also. The passing game will be there, you wont just have to stop Vicars, your going tohalf to stop the pass also.

  11. My memory might be failing me because it was awhile ago, but didn't Newcath win this scrimmage last year 14-13? If I recall correctly Dixie took the classy move at the end of the third quarter and kicked an extra point instead of going for the tie. Other than that this scrimmage looks to be a great test for both teams. Both teams are the cream of the crop in their respective classes in NKY. Looks like it might turn into a dandy if the NCC team that played the third quarter Saturday shows up. However it could be a long day if they don't show up ready to play again. However I have to go with my gut and pick NCC in a low scoring game.

You are correct.Late in the the game Dixie's JV. scored twice on ours but the varsity was 14 to 13.

  12. This team is much more balanced on both sides of the ball. Also Beechwood and NCC are not as good as they were in 03.

With that said HC has to beat them first.

I beleive NCC is as good as the 03 team, and I beleive Beechwood is not as good as the 03 team.I also would like to HC give them both good games.
