  1. In retrospect, is St X really good enough t be the Division I state champion....maybe....but it just seems like Elder just comes out of nowhere when they make noise.

P.S. I am not trying to do the whole "Which one is better, Ohio or Kentucky"......it's a stupid argument. Rather just talk about the game and the two programs involved.

Please know that I am not trying to take anything away from Highlands victory over St. X, they have a heck of a football team, maybe one of the best teams Dale has put together yet...but please let's talk about St X and Elder

I'm glad you brought this up...I don't care who you are when your playing in the GCL you are playing one of the hardest schedules in the country. For a school to play premier competition every week and be competitive is very hard. I'm not taking anything away from Elder's victory (congratulations) but it's very difficult to win week in and week out with this type of competition.

  2. The birds have no control over who their opponent is and the quality of that opponent. This is arguably the best Highlands team ever!!! Enjoy the ride!!! :thumb:

It may be a joke to some but Highlands schedule is not as easy as most in the State of KY. Highlands scrimmaged Male and played Ryle (2 times), Cincinnati Withrow and Cincinnati St. X which manhandled our 6A top teams. So, Highlands may appear to have an easy road to State but in my opinion there is no easy road to State!!!

  3. That Quarterback is one heck of a player, he can hurt you passing and running. I think Manual had a hard time stopping the pass because the majority of the teams they've faced all year were running teams. Good luck to the West kid, anybody know if he's going anywhere?

Wow... outstanding numbers and congratulations to Connor for a great year. I met Nick yesterday during a visit to WKU, he is a classy young man and I hope someone gives this kid a chance to play at the next level. It's obvious he has the passion for the game and gives it everything he has.:thumb:

  4. Cooper is returning the majority of their team who will all be two year starters minus a few sophomores that may fill in. The majority of their team that plays will be seniors. Could be a very nice season for the Jags.

I agree that Cooper should be better next year as well but, I think Ryle will be the top team in Northern Ky. 6A next year.

  5. Now that the regular season is over and the new season begins who are some of the teams/players that impressed you the most and are there any players that surprised some of you?

Teams that impressed me the most in NKY.

    Brossart- first ever playoffs

Highlands-undefeated and beat St. X in biggest game ever IMO.

Simon Kenton-rolled a very good Ryle team.

Bellevue-well coached and hard hitting team with solid athletes.

    Players that were most impressive.

Ricky Buckler-rushing stats, scoring stats and kid never leaves the field.

Miles Simpson-runs like an NFL back and makes defenders look silly at times.

Travis Elliot-attitude or not the kid is impressive for a sophomore.

Nick West-Mr Offense- can run and throw..will be a good college QB.

Brandon Roller- hardest hitting LB in the state and has nose for ball.

I agree that everyone on the list has impressive stats and congratulations to all. My point was misunderstood and again I mean no disrespect for the players mentioned.

  6. I really don't care if Highlands is considered the Mythical Greater Cincinnati champs or not. I hope the team will and I'm sure they will focus on one game at a time with the main goal of bringing home another State Championship. Congratulations for their victory over St. X, this is something no one can take away from this Team. Congatulations to St. X for their victory this past weekend and good luck to all the local teams as they continue their play throughout the playoffs!!!

  7. No, it doesn't have to always be about my boys!!! You are right about G11 having his opinion and respect his opinion but is it OK if I disagree with it? I didn't say he was wrong I just mentioned that some of the names may change and I mentioned no disrespect to the players mentioned.

By the way I wish we had Miles as one of my boys!!!

  8. Now that the regular season is over and the new season begins who are some of the teams/players that impressed you the most and are there any players that surprised some of you?

I agree with some on the list but come on, compare the schedules and competition and the names will change except for Roller and Simpson. And this is not being disrespectful to the players mentioned. It's sad that a player gets injured and is no longer considered one of the best players at his position!!!

  9. Just because I can't let this ridiculousness continue.

First off, you've been keeping track of me? YIKES!!

Secondly, I've been on St. X's bandwagon all year. Never got off. Still on it, in fact. They are a solid team. Not State Championship good, but a solid team nonetheless.

I've never been on the Elder bandwagon. I doubted them from week 1. I have no idea where you got that idea. Since you have been stalking, I mean, tracking me, please post any comments I may have said in support of Elder. They were a good team coming into the season but still had way to many defensive holes. After the season-ending loss of two division I prospects, they have gone down hill ever since. Their playoff game is at home but is very much in the air as to whether or not they can pull out the W.

As for Moeller, well, gee...hard not to be on the bandwagon of a team that is 9-0. They were scoring at will on almost every single team they played. They have won 7 of their 9 games by 3+ TD's. I believed that they would be too much for St. Xavier on Saturday and I was wrong. However, if you read the responses from most Moeller folks over on Yappi, they are all shocked and disappointed at the conservative nature of Moeller's offensive game plan. My guess is that Rodenburg (Moeller's Coach) was holding back a little anticipating a rematch. Just my guess.

I don't know how many times I have to convince you guys that I am not a Highlands hater. I wish them the very best and expect that they will waltz to a state title. The level of competition for Highlands this year in KY is so pathetically inadequate, it's embarassing to be honest. And that is why I understand why it's such a big deal for you folks to lay claim to this mythical "Greater Cincy Title" thingy. You realize that KY football is so poor and so far beneath Ohio, Cincy in particular, that you feel your season would not have been fulfilled if not for the win over St. X and their corresponding Enquirer Poll title.

Either way, I'm still happy in knowing that My Cardinals have never lost to the Highlands Bluebirds and I venture to say that they never will. Just two completely different brands of football. Again, ask Dale and he'll tell you all about it.

    -CardinalsFan

Your lucky your Cardinals didn't have to face Highlands this year or you would Not be saying that!!!

  10. The play calling has been drving me crazy for a while BUT Dale and his staff know what they are doing so their is no reason to complain about it. They keep winning and out scoring the other team! Good luck Birds win state.

Dale is not the type of coach to do the expected. He seems to be many moves ahead of the competition and people wonder why he is calling the game the way he is? Dale is smarter than he looks(sorry coach), there have been many games when he could have unloaded the offensive game plan but why??? Win the game and save the rest of the arsenal for when you need it.

Highlands has not used everything they have been practicing since the beginning of the year and when Dale decides to bring out the rest of it watch out!!!

  11. Just looked at the Ryle Coaches page online, it was not the Preacher. Please Note that I did not point that gentleman out in my earlier post.

I believe the coach is more of a motivator than anything else. Although I do not agree with what he said, his job is to keep the kids up and ready to play. I talked to Coach Warner (classly guy) after the game and he had many positive things to say about the game. You can tell by talking to him he enjoyed the competition and looked at this game as a building block for where he wants his program to be. Good luck Ryle and Coach Warner with your playoff run!!!

  12. Slot back... Kick-off return etc. etc.

Nice to see William back in the game... speed kills and that is what he delivered this evening. Ryle will have their hands full trying to figure this backfield out...

Hats off to the Eagle's coach and assistant coach. Both made a point of contacting Bardo after the game to congratulate him on his return to the football field. That's nothing but class in my book! :thumb:

Very impressed with the coaches that congratulated Will for coming back!!!

  13. About what I expected for the outcome. I do have to ask why Wil Bardo and David Hogue are in the game on offense for the final two scores. Bardo had no business being in there at that time of the game IMO. Just seems to me like pouring a little salt in the wound. Can someone let me know how Cam Dierig is doing after getting his leg rolled up on.

The only reason Bardo was in the game is because the coaches feel he needs some time to get used to playing a new position. They could have highlighted him but they didn't. If you watch the game you will notice they worked on blocking more than running the ball. With running backs like Fennell and Steeter whats the rush? I agree he could have been pulled out of the game a little earlier than he was but I'm not a coach and they know why he was in there more than we do. As for Hogue, I don't understand why he is not on the field more, again I'm not a coach of course.
