  1. Ryle should be better. I think a lot will depend on play calling. Over heard one coach say they plan on running the ball 50 times a game. IMO that would be a big mistake. If you have a D-1 QB use him. S.K. will be good. Not as good as last year, IMO. But can they beat Ryle, yes. Highlands will always be good. Until S.K. and Highlands play each other we will never know who is better. The good thing about Ryle vs S.K. we will find out in about 6 months.

True we may only be able to assume...I know 7 on 7 is not a good indication of who would win the game but Highlands dominated SK during the 7 on 7 competition last year and I feel Highlands would have beaten Sk last year in a real game. Just my thought!!!

  2. Jared has been hired by Dale to coach Dale's way period. He will have the flexibility to go over his plan with Dale and they will agree (or Dale will) to handle the QB position as he seems fit. You wont have to worry about Jared giving motivational speaches this will be handled by Dale and Brian mainly with the other coaches helping were they can.

I think this is a great hire for Highlands and something the team has been lacking for some time when it comes to teaching the fundamentals of the Qb position. I really like what I saw from John Hardin before the State game when the QB's were working on the basics before the game and not just throwing the ball long.

  3. Just because someone played at a high level doesn't mean they will be a good coach.

Trust me Jared can coach just fine and the boys really respect what he has accomplished and what he can bring to the table. I wish my son had more time with him because he did a great job coaching him. Jared knows what it takes to get to the next level and can help someone like Patrick achieve his goal!!!

Good luck to Coach V and we appreciate everything he has done for our kids and the program.

  4. I hear you, but this situation is a hard one, there is a lot of history between these schools. A lot of team chemistry is built on trust and loyalty, not saying I agree one way or the other but this would be hard. If he wanted to come back which I don't think he does, not sure, just have heard comments that would lead one to beleive he wouldn't. But I guess going with the team chemistry theme, I think the DHS players would have to have a say in the matter.

I understand and I'm sure you know the situation alot better than I do. I think it would have to be a come to Jesus meeting with the players ,coaches and the young man. I'm sure the team would want an apology for some of the things that were said but, I would like to believe it could be worked out. Then again like you said he may not want to come back and play at Danville and it may be better to just move on. Hopefully he will not miss out playing his senior year.

  5. He will not be playing at Danville next year either. There is know way Coach Harp will take him back.

I hope your wrong if he decides to return to Danville. Kids make mistakes and I would like to believe Coach Harp, an adult, is a big enough man to let this young man play football for Danville if this is the only way he can play next year.

  6. Had no idea....When was he able to play QB with "MAC" rule in effect:laugh: No seriously, I wish Mac the best of luck. I think momma is going to be the deciding factor here. I think if it was up to his Dad, he would be at HHS. Whenever you get National exposure like they have had the last 10 years and especially this past year, it doesn't take a Lawyer:laugh: like Steve to figure what kind of situation you would like to put your son in. And win some pretty big games to boot!!!!:thumb:

Mac played QB 3rd/4th,5th and 6th grade. I believe he played some his 7th grade year as well. Unfortunately his 8th grade year he was over the weight limit which is why he played TE. I think this problem also helped him to become a better overall player.

  7. I agree with TBirds, Mac is a tight end, wide receiver type. He was really good most games last year at those positions.

I agree Mac is a good receiver/TE but have you ever watched him play QB. He has a strong arm, smart kid and is very mobil. If Mac wants to play QB trust me he can compete for the QB position. I wish him the best of luck wherever he decides to play!!!

  8. I agree that Drew did a very nice job at QB this season, but Franzen will definitely give him a run if he decides to go to Highlands. Anyone know if he's decided?

Competition is good for all involved and if Mac does decide to go to Highlands that would be great. I'm not convinced he is going to end up at Highlands but if he did it would be good for all the HHS fans. My gut feeling tells me that if Mama wants him to go to NCC, he's going to NCC.

  9. In all honesty, we don't judge a program by it's facilities. We know we are very fortunate in that the generosity of some very special people, and the generosity of a lot of average people helped us build our facilities.

I do wish you'd quit trying to make THS kids, fans, etc sound like some sort of "elite". I mean, I'll eat hot dogs with the best of them. :D And, you'd be surprised at the number of blue collar workers at Trinity...both students and parents. :p

    Rockmom,

Sweeperboy is just having some fun with you and the rest of the Trinity folks. I'm sure we are all looking forward to the scrimmage, it is going to help both programs in regards to finding out our pros and cons. I hope everyone comes and enjoys the day and both teams leave without any serious injuries.

  10. Great point and the best post in this thread.

If the KHSAA made a mistake and imposed the sanctions before there was finality in the court system as to Mike's eligibility, they should reverse the sanctions. If the State School Board thinks that, with the Mitchell-type sanctions now banned, the KHSAA should go back and reverse any previously issued Mitchell-type sanctions, the State Board will so order it done. That's all the letter referenced in the first post in this thread is about; not about posters' thoughts and feelings of Mike's transfer or whether the KHSAA should have the ability to issue Mitchell-type sanctions. Those quail have flown from the covey nest and in my opinion this thread has run it's course.

  11. It was my understanding after an email response to me by the Commissioner that the Appellate Court ruled....on Monday following the Bell game and prior to the weekend championship game....Mitchell ineligible and could not play. The timing was always suspect by the Bobcat faithful....it secured a win at the semi level and putting Highlands in the Championship game....which they could probably...and would win...without Mitchell. I know there are those on here who have said that someone would have stepped up in his place...but he was a special player as his NFL credentials note. His theft from the Bell running back at the end of the game....ran back for a touchdown was an unbelievable play for a high school player. Followed by his last minute score to pull out the victory. Mitchell does not play...Bell wins on the field. Too bad this whole situation happened. I have since watched as several Southeastern Kentucky kids have tried to move in much the same manner....but were denied eligibility.

For those that feel the same as Tom, if Mike would not of been eligible to play in this game it would of been Jamie Hubbard running the ball against Bell County. Hubbard would have had the same results, if you don't think so ask Bowling Green, Hubbard was the MVP of the State game as the running back.

(Not taking anything away from Mike, just my opinion)
