  1. Lone Oak will get all new Speed Helmets and Nike unis like Missouri......Black with purple for home...White with purple and black for away...They look awesome!!!! I always thought black unis were more intimidating than solid purple with a white strip down the leg...The helmets will be the traditional white with LO on each side..The boosters and the school have worked really hard to make this happen..Been 3 years or so since we have had new unis....

Three years is a short amount of time for new uniforms. Most schools have to wait 5-6 years.

  2. And then some. I am not on any pay roll for the school or any other association. I volunteer to film all games for Raceland and am very involved in the booster club. We also have a second volunteer that films the endzone view.

I understand that we at Raceland are blessed by a great support group that not all schools have. We are fortunate enough to have past parents, past players, and current parents who volunteer to do a lot for the program. But, I do think that manning the camera with an appropriate person should be a priority for every school. It should be as important as a coaching position. Almost everyone has a PA announcer, I would go as far as to say that if needed the PA guy should be used as a camera guy before he should be used as a PA announcer. It should be a priority for every school.

    Raceland is very blessed.

What about schools that do not allow volunteers of any kind though?

  3. It's interesting that this has been in the coaches hands for 4 full seasons and now we have comments. It has now been adopted by the KHSAA to help set some guidelines and these guidelines actually came from the coaches themselves.

I think those guidelines are an excellent way for someone to film, it is pretty lengthy and some may be unrealistic for some schools, however, it is a nice set of rules. Making it mandatory is another animal however. Just not enough personnel or funds for some schools.

  4. Maybe different in your part of the woods, but I have been filming for several years and I have not seen a high school kid filming the trade tape. I have seen high school kids filming a second "wide angel" copy, but not the trade tape.

Definatley different then. I've only seen a few adults filming period. I always remembered Grutza's father filming for Mason County with a camera that looked like something from a Hollywood movie scene and that was several years ago. Many schools in EKY only have 1 tape period and that is with a student or injured player filming from the pressbox. A sideline or endzone film is obsolete unless your school has great funding for a endzone camera and trust me, there aren't many in EKY. Especially 1A schools in EKY, they may be lucky to even have the film taped. This is a major problem statewide, maybe not in urban or city schools Louisville, Lexington, but everywhere else it is a problem for a lot of schools.

  5. G) Videotaping Standard and Procedures and Video Exchange Policy:

    1) All Visiting teams will be given the same area to record from as

    the home team.

    2) All exchange video should be recorded digitally with a digital

    Camera.

    3) All exchange video should be recorded in DVD format or Online

    4) All exchange video shall be recorded using a Tripod.

    point in the stadium

    6) All exchange video shall be recorded so that the teams numbers

    are visible

    7) All exchange video shall be recorded from the huddle to z few

seconds past the end of the play (5-10 seconds).

    8) If the team is a no huddle team, the video shall begin recording

before any shifts or motions and continue past the end of the

    play (5-10 seconds).

    9) If there is a penalty, the video shall continue to record until the

    penalty has been enforced.

    10) All exchange video shall be recorded from the deepest

    the play progresses.

    11) On all Punts and Punt returns, the video should NOT follow

the ball. The video should begin with a wide view showing both

the punt and punt return teams, and then zoom in to the return

team after the ball is punted and received.

    12) On all Kickoffs and Kick Returns, the video should NOT follow

the ball. The video should begin with a wide view of both the

kickoff and return teams and then zoom in to the return team

after the returner has received the ball.

    13) The video shall show the down and distance with a short shot

of the downs marker between plays.

    14) The video shall show the scoreboard after every score, at each

    time-out, and between quarters.

    15) All teams shall make available at least 2 tapes to exchange

    (choice made by the opponent)

    16) All teams shall exchange an updated roster, clearly indicating

    offensive and defensive starters.

    17) All Video shall be available by 8 am on the day following

the game if online exchange is utilized, or by noon on the day

following the game if there is a physical exchange of video.

Hand that list to a high school kid who is usually the one filming and the end result may look worse than before.

  6. With as much talent as PC has, they should easily win the region.

PC fans, calm down. What was wrong with someone predicting you to be region champs and claiming you have a boatload of talent (which is a fact)?

Always so defensive, I read it as a compliment and assumed what a lot of other do that PC is a region favorite because of thier athletes.

  7. I think this year UK is going to surprise some people.

I agree, we've been used to 7 and 8 wins for the four years, however, I believe we'll be surprised when we win 4 or 5.

I hope not, but I have a bad feeling from this bunch.

If we win 7 or 8, it will be awesome. It will be the fifth year with as many wins and as a traditional bottom dweller in SEC football, we have to endure consistency of 7 or 8 wins for quite some time and then we can take the next step of winning 8,9 and maybe 10 wins in a 5-10 years. It takes time. We just cannot afford to go backward in the win column and lose all the momentum we've gained the last four years.

  8. This is what I came up with. I used only this past year's boys enrollments (and this year will be a part of the process - not sure if it will be averaged with 08/09 or 10/11), made a rough estimate of the impact of Martha Layne Collins and South Warren (straight split of the number Shelby County had which was 952, 35% of Greenwood's number into South Warren and taking 50 boys from the Warren Central total), and included the special movements up in class that we've had in the past (Highlands, CovCath, Russellville, East Carter - can't remember any others).

The number beside the school is their male enrollment. As the KHSAA does when they do realignment, the number is doubled for all-male schools.

There are 223 schools in this. The KHSAA divides that evenly across 6 classes. If the number does not divide perfectly even, they add one to the number beginning with the lowest class. In this case, 222/6 = 37, so the extra school goes into the 1A class, giving them 38 to begin with. NewCath and Owensboro Catholic had an identical number, so I placed them both in 1A. When teams move up in class (like Highlands and CovCath), I don't believe the lowest teams in the class get moved down, so I left those teams put. For instance, Owensboro and Mercer County are the lowest in 5A, but don't move down to 4A just because Highlands and CovCath move up in class to 5A. I think that's how that works.

With the new statement coming from Mr. Tackett this week, is this what 2011 could realistically look like?

  9. I just heard the same thing Bear Paw, but we need some details peeps....details anyone????

Harlan County won the 2010 Union College Passing Tournament. They advanced through Knox Central, Rowan County, Powell Valley Va, Leslie County and beat Louisville Fairdale 37-14 for the championship.

    Boyle

    Letcher Central

    North Laurel

    Lynn Camp

    Cumberland Gap TN

    Bell County

    Clay County

    Southwestern Pulaski

The above teams were also there in no order.

  10. I've worked in the Legislative Branch for some time now and a lot of what everyone is saying makes sense, poor budgeting. I know my branch has cut more money than any other state branch and there are only new hires in positions when a laid off state worker refuses to take the recommended job. There has to be new hires even if the state is in a budget crisis simply to continue preserving our rights and priviledges in the court system according to the Constitution. We began cutting our budget heavily in 2007 and each year has seen an increased deficit.

I'm confused when we currently have over 35 new courthouses at a cost of over 20 million each being constructed at a constant pace.

Where does the court cost go to? Each person entering the court system with a guilty plea (other than seat belt) has to pay court cost, minimum $125.00. Hundreds of guilty pleas are entered daily throughout each county.

    220 counties

200 guilty pleas a week (low average)

    $125.00 each (minimum)

    Total: 22,000,000 a month

I know court cost are not always paid up front and not all get paid, however, with these low numbers it is just an estimation and one that I feel is pretty low. How do we deprive the public of 22 million a month and not have things paid for?

  11. I believe this will be the Bears best season. They have a very solid RB in Cody Taylor and a huge O-Line. They will also have maybe the most dangerous player in the region (Smith RB/WR/DB). Look for a bunch of kicks to go away from him or it could be 6.

    1. Harlan Co.

    2. Letcher

    3. Clay Co.

    4. Whitley Co.

    5. Perry Co.

    No North Laurel?

  12. Letcher won the district last year and returns just about everyone-so I don't see how Harlan County could be favored.

Three way tie and the battle to go the region was won by a whopping 1 point at Letcher Central. Harlan County returns a lot as well.

Harlan County beat Letcher Central at their place the first time and like I said a 1 point victory is all that seperated them in the 2nd round.

  13. Somehow I knew this was coming. So you love UK basketball, but hate the fans. So basically, you hate yourself.

That was exactly what I was thinking.

You cannot have both, you either love UK or hate UK.

  14. I know you were closer to the 3A game than I was that year although I did watch the game quite closely. Boyle was very good, no doubt but their offense did not impress me much. Their defense was stout as could be but Rockcastle's offense didn't hold a candle to the offense we had that season.

The only team Trinity had difficulty stopping in '02 was Male and that was because of Michael Bush. Boyle had great players but no one in the same ballpark as as Bush. Shoot Brohm was a better pure QB but Bush was the best player on the field that day easily.

I'm sure Trinity did have a better offense that year, I doubt they had that much of a better defense though than Rockcastle County.

I think Boyle County would've beat Trinity 4-5 times out of 10, vice versa.

  15. Yes. He had 30+ wins and another final four taken off his resume. Just b/c the NCAA couldn't prove Calipari knew anything about the situation it doesn't mean he didn't (I'm not saying he knew about it). A prosecutor couldn't prove OJ killed his ex wife either. I think Calipari coaching Lebron next year is more of a possibilty than people want to admit. Part of the reason is he wouldn't have to worry about recruiting kids w/ handlers any more. It's really that simple to me.

That wasn't Cal getting in trouble, that was Memphis.

When I think of trouble I think more of Kelvin Sampson.
