St Henry played hard and I hope they do well in their district but the talent level is wide between the two schools. JMO..
St Henry played bad in 2nd half....Cooper bad in 1st half? 12pt game....I don't think it's that wide. Both teams could have played better
-
Cooper fans say what you want but St Henry is much better than the record or reputation. They have a chance to be pretty competitive throughout the region at the end of the year. I've said for most of the early part of the season they need time but as of now...they should have won this game.
They can't put up 17pts in the 2nd half and expect to win. Sounds like the same type of thing that happend again Sheldon Clark in the Lex Christian Tourn. For me it starts with the seniors and they all need to step up and play better and play more consistent. Some of them have seen 3yrs of varsity but are being outplayed by underclassmen. With that said I have been very impressed with the play of senior guard Michael Best.

Happy to see this teams starting to get more comfortable and more confident. Keep it rolling Cru

I've met a lot of coaches in NKY but Coach Trame will always be one of my favorites. Congrats Coach!

Give this St Henry team some time to gell...they will be much improved compared to the past few seasons. Lots of young talent playing varsity now.

Big Neuy---Always willing to start a good controversy w/ NKY HS BBALL topics

Really gutsy performance by closer Tanner Pulice battling all the way back from 3-0 on the last batter. Didnt look outside to me and i was right behind the plate. On the black and called that way all day.
No dog in the fight at all and I was sitting right behind home plate also. It was a ball. Everyone I talked to thought it was ball 4. Either way congrats to Ryle. This thing is wide open.

Agreed. Why even let this type of thread continue? I didn't even know who this clown was until reading this...
Because The Guru is a smart business man. He owns the site. I assume this site gets its most visitors during Feb and March. Stir the pot a little bit and he might get more new members. Just a thought

First let me say Congratulations to Boone and Coach McQueary. For a few years now I have said I think McQueary is one of the better coaches in this area. For the past 5yrs we on BGP have heard some negativity towards this program and this coach from its own parents and fans. I think today he proved he knows what the heck he's doing. This was probably his least talented squad in the past 3 or 4 years.....and look at them now. Headed to Rupp. Congrats to the Rebels!
As for NCC. They have a very nice young squad. McDonald is going to be very good if he works on his footwork and his face up post moves. Shulte is a heck of young prospect and I really love watching Beuter play.
Finally for Brady Hitchew. I see a lot of good basketball players come through this area. He's as good as any I've seen come through this area. His athleticism and skill is really fun to watch. He plays really hard and although I don't care for some of the antics he shows while playing....he usually backs them up with his game. But I have to say this. I think Brady is worn out. He's played 4yrs of Football, Basketball, and now headed to back to Baseball. Over the past basketball season I've noticed he has had a few games where he just looks worn out. I think he wants to go 110%, 110% of the time but he's just tired and possibly starting to burn out. And I can't blame him one bit. But I do say this...he should hold his head up high....because he was one heck of a high school athlete and had one heck of a career at NCC. Congratulations Brady and good luck down the road!

I don't think anyone is trying to make anything personal at all. I have nothing against Boone or its students. Some of my best friends and even my wife went to Boone. I was sitting with a group of people from Boone. All of them said the same thing as soon as they walked in...."Why doesn't Boone ever have a student section?" Its actually pretty sad. One of my greatest memories of playing high school ball was playing in front of some great student sections. I'm happy for this Boone team but its sad that for a school that size that it doesn't have better school spirit.
As for the "poor" or "unwealthy" excuse. I'm pretty sure many more families from Holmes and Newport have "poverty" problems than the kids from Boone. I believe both those teams played on the Sundays with UK playing the past couple years from what I recall.

Who takes Deters serious anymore? Why would anyone hire him? People that know basketball in the state know Stiener as a very good coach. SK just has had the talent they had in late 90s early 2000s
Also it's not the first time I've seen The Guru start a thread to stir things up on BGP. We're talking about a Facebook post? Really?

Guess this would help support the statement that Coach Tim Sullivan and his staff is one of the best in the 9th and one proving to be one of the better ones in the state. Congratulations CoopSquad

WOW!
Dixie vs Cooper
CovCath vs NCC
Highlands vs Lloyd
Boone vs Holmes

This has potential to be one of the best 9th Region tournaments in a long time. I think this will be a really fun tourny with some great games.

If anyone gets a chance. Last week on ESPNU there was a documentary about Bob Hurley Sr and his 2008 National Championship / NJ State Championship team. Included Tyshawn Taylor, Dominik Cheek, Michael Rosario and more. After watching this I bought tickets to see him at CovCath. The documentary was called "Street Stops Here"

2 guys stick out in my mind that don't get enough publicity in NKY
Cooper's Alex Webster-
!Watch this clip and tell me you don't see some Darius Miller in him at the :25sec mark
NCC's Andy Miller- Kid does everything you ask of role player. Great picks, decent shot, good rebounder, hustles.

I would be curious to see how many BGPers have played in it.
I did.

For those that don't know tomorrow night is a huge night at St Henry.
Hate to say that former St Henry standout from '03 championship squad and friend, Michael Schmidt has been diagnosed with Leukemia. So far the reports are good for Mike and he's kicking it's rear. Eventually he will need a bone marrow transplant and is going through chemo now. Tomorrow's Coaches vs Cancer game will raise money for Big Mike.
Also...tomorrow night fans, parents, and former players will honor Coach Faust for his 300th win last week. A great accomplishment.
So with all that said...large crowd...lots of emotion...St Henry wins this district game by 30+

Congrats to the Holy Cross boys. I have never been a huge fan of Coach Goetz but I have to take my hat off. He's got a one heck of a team and he's doing a great job this season. Jake Berger is one of my favorite players to watch in this area and I have to say he should be playing somewhere at the next level. Congrats to the Indians!
-
Even before today I would have said Jake Berger....kid really has impressed me
-
I think this statement says it all. For about 99% of the "holdbacks" it isn't the kids decision, unless a kid has flunked.Never merits discussion in my opinion. The only thing that matters is if an athlete is eligible to play their senior season. In my case I was held back in kindergarden after moving into Kentucky from out of state...so it made sense to stay back one year. With a September birthday I was either going to be a Older kid in the class or Younger kid in the class. Athletically it probably helped me some but not enough to get me a D-1 scholarhsip.

NKY is missing Ryan Ernst big time. Covered HS sports very well. These days I don't even bother with the NKY Enquirer or Post.

Some Quick Notes
1)Bolden-Best PG prospect I've seen in NKY in a long time. If Mack was there to check out Bolden I'm sure he left impressed. So smoooooth!
2)Rusthatz-Man he looked tired early and I've never seen that from him. When he's cool and calm he seems to be the best. Still a great player.
3)Schuh-I think this kid is going to be really good and had a nice game last night. 9pts 9rbs for a soph is a good game. Can't wait to see how good he get with some weight room work and experience. My comparison would be Justin Dolleman type player.
4)Fredrick-Kid can flat out shoot. I think his legs got a bit tired also in the 4th qtr but Holmes can do that to you. I expect him to be really good by postseason.
5)Palmer-Man he can defend. He did a great job on Rusthatz and hit a huge 3 late in the 4th.
6)Refs-Overal I thought this crew did a great job. There were some questionable calls but for the most part they let these kids play and show why they are 2 of the top teams in the area....maybe the state.
7)Listerman-Man was he fired up. I love Coach L and it was great to see him back at CCH for the night. I would hope sometime soon they honor him during a Holmes @ CovCath game.
