  1. Im not a huge UC fan. I watch them play when I can. I've seen them more than 10times this year. I've paid attention to them pretty much over the past few years. I have no agenda or no bias.

UC fans and UC people need to realize this team will never be where it was, mostly due to them being in Big East. But also, there biggest problem is at the head. Mick Cronin is not a good coach for this program. He might make a decent coach at a smaller program. But he will never thrive in the Big East. From recruiting to in game decisions and X's and O's. He is not a good fit for UC and until this is realized, UC will have a hard time winning games they should be winning.

  2. No doubt this was St. Henry's most disappointing game this year. They looked over sized, over matched, out of control. They tried to play fast, but too fast at times. Way too many turnovers. No discipline on offense or defense. To often they tried to shoot over Giesler and that wasn't happening. When they did finally get the game back to 8 in the 2nd qtr, they had to awful possessions in a row that put the game to 13 really fast.

With that said...Im not sure why Brannen still had most of his starters in the entire 4th qtr. Meyer and Giesler both finally came out under the 3min mark. St. Henry had basically threw in the towl and had lots of back of the bench guys playing out the 4th qtry, w/ exception to 1 guy.

  3. That is a good question. I think there is one advantage St. Henry has over CCH. Because of lesser expectations at St. Henry, everyone (including players) buys in to the coach and that helps a lot on the court. At CCH, even in the good years the second guessing is off the charts. The players hear it at home and in the halls at school and it probably hurts some on the floor. I would still take the talent at CCH over St. Henry because it is always easier to win with talent.

Very well said and I agree with you points totally!

  4. Surprising to see 7 straight years of double digit losses with the pub he gets on BGP as being the best coach in NKY.

Not that surprising when you look at the 33rd District schedule (Boone, Ryle, Conner, SK) and then also look at the non-district schedule Faust usually has had. Then teams like LexCath, St. X, Elder, and Trinity and some other big names usually showing up on St Henry's schedule.

Then to go along with that he schedules the other "Bigs" in NKY year in year out(Brossart, CovCath, Highlands, NCC, and Holmes).

This is the first year in some time I've actually seen teams like Bellvue, Dayton, Williamstown show up on his schedules. Im sure part of that has to do with this team not having a lot of varsity experience outside of Anderson, Hils, and Bessler.

After looking at this....WOW!! That top half of the bracket is unreal. Almost unfair. Some great games in the top half could really be interesting. But would love to see a Clark Co vs Shelby Valley Semifinal Matchup.

  7. I think St. Henry's district was tougher when it also included Simon Kenton. And I would agree that being in a district with 3 or 4 of the largest schools in the region is a challenge. That being said, I think Holy Cross and Beechwood would both trade districts with St. Henry without much hesitation. They will take their chances year in and year out versus Ryle and Conner instead of Holmes and Covington Catholic. Who has the tougher challenge in getting to the regional - Beechwood and Holy Cross or St. Henry?

No doubt they would make the trade. I totally agree. And by when SK was in the 9th the 33rd was brutal and I believe that was partially what made it so hard to just get out of the 9th and then do well down state. Just the toughness of all the districts.

But that was the past. Now St. Henry is in the 34th district and should be getting to the regionals much more often w/ Dixie.

And I don't see HC or Beechwood getting to the Regionals very often when they got to get through CovCath and Holmes.

  8. The 35th has won the past 6 region championships. I don't understand how you can say it's been easy to get a win inside that district?

It is easier to advance out of the district in the 35th. It has been a two horse race for years now with an occasional surprise. You never know who is coming out of the 33rd year in and year out.

Changeup might have said it better than I did. Its easier to get wins because there are more teams with less competition. Basically CovCath and Holmes have been the only competition for each other over the past years. While in the 33rd all of these teams have been about the same in competition year in and year out and have made it much harder to get wins in district.

Holmes and CovCath really only lose 1 game in district all year. That being against each other. The same with Highlands and NCC. In the past Dixie has won a bunch of District games also due to a weak district.

  9. 1. Let the geography lessons begin.

    2. I laugh that the 8 boys at CovCath have a 3.0gpa beacause of Coach Listerman....How bout giving some credit to the boys? They a make the grades not the coach.

    3. In my opinion......Wins have nothing to do with what makes a "GREAT High School Coach" But it does help.

    4. Jim Hicks is one of my favoirte coaches. I don't always agree with his style and the way he coaches in a game.....but he gets it done. And gets his players better by year end, year after year.

    5. I hate to even bring this up, but lets also look at what District each coach is coaching in or has been coaching in. Over the past 10yrs the 33rd District has been the most compeitive. Because of lots of good teams like SK, St Henry, Boone, Ryle, Conner. So the wins haven't been as easy in district as some teams like Dixie, NCC, Highlands, Holmes and CovCath. Those teams are expected to win the district year in year out.

Now some of that has changed since St. Henry and SK have be realigned. Does this makes sense????

  10. I feel like we can't talk about "Best Coaches in N.KY" and leave out Mr. Tim Sullivan at Cooper High School. What he is doing out there is impressive and needs to be talked about. I think there has been dramatic improvement in 2yrs at Cooper and I would give Coach Sullivan just a few more years before he has this team competitive in the area.

    Great work Coach Sullivan!

  11. It has been awhile for a regional championship for some of the smaller schools that you mentioned but if you gave some of those coaches the talent that some of the others have then it could be a different story. Just to base it on regional championships would leave out a lot of coaches on the list. For the smaller schools such as Brossart and Gallatin Co. they have become perennial All A contenders and winners. These two schools in particular are playing against schools with enrollment that is sometimes quadruple their size. If this doesn't show someone can coach I don't know what does. Another thing you mentioned was fan base have you ever been to a Gallatin Co. away game they travel better than a lot of big schools and have a rabid fan base.

I think you may be misunderstanding me. I come from a small school. St Henry is a small school. Brossart is a small school. They too are playing schools with enrollment much larger. Year in year out these schools are playing LexCath, St. X, Boone Co, Ryle, Holmes, CovCath, and even Elder. The coaches they have play tough schedules. They too, like Gallitin Co get a limited amount of talent. Coach Faust and Coach Code would do great things if they were coaching at Holmes and CovCath. Thats why they are in the tops of votes.

My other reason for them being on top was not because of the fan base. Not the traveling fan base. Not the home team fan base. If you go back and read my post, I was referring to the fan base on BlueGrassPreps. Thats why names like Jones weren't brought up as much. Thats why they won't get votes. Hope this explains my earlier post some more and helps you understand why Coaches like Mike Code and Dave Faust are leading this pole.

As for Coach Henly......besides being a great coach on and off the court. We know his record in the recent past is a prime reason why he is getting a lot of votes. Just like Listerman was getting lots of votes 4 and 5yrs ago around the state as one of best coaches. A few tough season and people get off his horse.......or are poeple just starting to realize what others have seen for years?????

  12. I was being sarcastic. I think a lot of 8th region teams ( Simon Kenton, Walton, Grant, Williamstown, Gallatin, ect.) are and should be considered into the N. Ky. area. It annoys me to hear otherwise.

I don't think anyone is saying these schools aren't in NKY. But I do think that there is a smaller population of fans from those schools and those areas on this site.

Also I think that they coach that are mentioned are good ones, especially Jones of Gallitin Co. But I don't think they are in the same class with the top vote getters on this list. Which of those coaches have a won a regional championship?

  13. I agree that Dave Faust is a heck of a coach. I also believe that every year, including this year, that he has at least a couple of hardworking, talented players that would certainly contribute, possibly start on some of the higher-profile teams in NKY. I can't recall over the last few years, more than a handful of year-round AAU players that have come through his program. Brandon Lenhoff(heckofaplayer) comes to mind as the last I recall, hopefully correctly. A few teams that they are competing with are loaded with those type of experienced, trained players. Seems like every year the Cru improves throughout the year and makes some noise. Hardworking, possibly talented, players who buy into each other and their coach's passion for the game.

Well said and very true about the AAU play.

  14. As stated before, the 8th grade knights team in the tournament is the B team and the Jets lost to the 7th grade Knights team (Moeves) twice who didn't play the tournament. I don't understand the post?????

From what I've heard the 7th Grade Knights team (Moeves) made the choice not to play in the tournament. What was that reason? I've heard some pretty entertaining excuses.

  15. It looked to me like he hit the rim and basket when he blocked it. But that was hours ago. Was nice hustle play though but thought I saw the basket and rim get hit.

This play happened so fast and was such a great hustle play it was really hard to tell when the ball hit the backboard. The St Henry player, I believe was Barnett was going hard at the basket and really never slowed down as he went to lay it in.............but out of NOWHERE came Foster to get his hands on the ball.

I seriously could not tell if it was a block or a goal tend, it happened so FAST! I don't know if the refs could tell either, and in that instance I think they made the right call or should I say NO CALL.
