  1. I like Johnson central a whole lot, and will pull for them in every game this season except for the Belfry game. But, I stand by my assertions.

With all due respect, please name me one quality passing team that JC played last season. The only two teams that really were any type of challenge to JC was Ashland and Rockcastle. Rockcastle's passing game was non-existent, and Ashland's only passing game was Mahan to McDavid and the occasional flare to Thomas. It is very easy to say, and I will be shocked if you don't agree, that no other offense JC faced was even remotely as balanced as CCH last season. Therefore (and considering it was the state-semi's when JC was playing full steam ahead) I will say without hesitation I have no problem judging their defense based on one game, because CCH was the only top tier team they faced, and the point of this discussion is if JCHS can reach that level.

I do feel Johnson central had a very good run defense last season, but against CovCath they gave up rushing yards in bunches. If CovCath was a one dimensional running team then the Eagles would have trounced them just like everyone else, but those top tier big schools are not one dimensional, and once the Eagles became vulnerable to the passing game those running lanes, in particular off tackle, opened up like at no other time last season. I will concede that if Johnson had not got hurt then it definately would have helped JCHS on both sides of the ball, but the fact remains CovCath got anything they wanted on offense that night.

I am a Belfry fan and feel as though my beloved Pirates are going to get beat down, no matter how much our young QB improves. The Louisville Central game should be a really good prep for JCHS as they will see an experienced/talented QB in Leland Banks, as well as alot of athleticism at all the skill positions, this will be a matchup that they could have desperately used last season.

Hey I'll agree with you on Cov Caths offense they were the best that JC faced last season and I feel that they were the best in the state last season. Heck I would say that no team last season faced an offense better than CC. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this subject but I stand by my assertions as well. I don't feel that Johnson Central struggled on defense last year and I feel the stats don't lie. CC did get a lot of yards in that game last season but some seem to forget that JC was actually leading this game at the half, so it's not like they dominated JC the whole game.

  2. Johnson Central will field a better team this year than last year's squad who made the state semi-finals. That being said, CovCath proved just how far the gap is to become a top tier team, and did so on JC's homefield.

The Eagles, offensively, will be able to give any team fits. All indications are that Matney is doing everything in his power to improve his passing game.

One of the big questions this year, as it was last year, is their defense. Their secondary struggled mightily against balanced teams, and once they became vulnerable to a passing game, then their run defense fell apart.

Last season they played a weak schedule, this year they have definately bumped that schedule up by adding the #1 and #3 teams in 3A, as well as a decent Conner team. This certainly will help them improve.

The biggest change that needs to be made, a change that Matney has been working on since Day 1, is their attitude. I got the impression last season that JCHS was glad to be playing CCH, but viewed themselves as the underdogs. Before the Eagles can plant their flag as one of the state's best, they have to enter their games with mentality that they already are one of the state's elite.

How was there defense a question last year? There defense only gave up 151 points in 14 games. That's 10.7 points a game which was seventh in the state and second in class 3a. The only game that gave up a lot of yardage was the Cov Cath game with most of that coming in the second half. Please tell me which games did the secondary struggle against. They gave up 204 yards through the air against Cov Cath but who else did they struggle against? There run defense was great all season. I'll agree with you on the defense in the Cov Cath game but you can't base one game on the entire season. I'm sorry but if you thought Johnson Central's defense was a question mark last year you probably shouldn't be commenting in this thread because how many other defenses "struggled" by giving up only 10.7 points a game with over twenty interceptions on the year while having a 1st team all state defense tackle and a second team all state defensive end and not to mention two of the best linebackers in the state last year. Did you even see Johnson Central play last year?

  3. That was my thinking as well. I havent heard so this is purely speculation, but this from my understanding is to be a two step process with the home stands and new concessions and ticket area coming along next year. I assume that when the new stands are put in next year that they will placed very close to the track much like Lawrence County's and Prestonsburg's are.

  4. I have been hearing some talk about the bleacher situation. I really dont want my pm box filling up with hate messages, so all I will say about that is JC could be "road warriors" next season.

 New season but same old you and yet you wonder why you get those types of private messages. I guess some people never learn.

  5. I agree, that field is a LONG way away from the fans.

But isn't the plan to demolish the old bleachers and put in a new stadium in the next year? That may account for it. Surely the new ones will be closer.

Yes this is correct. The new home bleachers will be much closer to the field next season.

  6. This would be me :scared: :scared:

If I were the someone who knows CZAR personally and actually hopes to see their next birthday after initiating someone to give him a hardtime !!!!

You dont tug on superman's cape, you dont...................

    Absolutely! :D

  7. At Pikeville, we still need our 2nd one for a HOME scrimmage. We MAY have Letcher Co. Central but I'm waiting to hear back from them since our first conversation about it.

I also saw where Henderson Co. still needs both scrimmages; we've offered, but the trip might be too much.

Johnson Central is still looking for a second scrimmage. It would be great if Johnson Central and Pikeville would hook up.

  8. No do you have anymore?

My buddy that I talk to that lives in Johnson county mentioned this to me and I just wanted to see if it had any truth to it. No reason to get upset. :D

I wasn't upset. I was actually suprised that something that absurd was even brought up.

  9. I was talking to a buddy of mine the other day from Paintsville and we were discussing how good JC and their opening is to start football games with the fireworks and music and all. Come to find out, he said that they ripped off UK Football and thats how they come out the same way. Any truth to this?

P.S. My buddy has regular season tickets to UK games and has had them for years.

 Come on man, surely there is more to talk about than that. Here we are a month away from the start of practice and you want to talk about this? Have you ever seen a UK game in Commonwealth Stadium? How many high school and college teams use fireworks? Many! How many teams use cannons after a score? You guessed it many! Now that we'll be playing on turf this year ask your buddy if we copied that off anyone. I'm sure he'll come up with a doozy. Does UK run out on the field while the pa is playing Bodies by Drowning Pool? Does UK allow students to come out on the field to make a student tunnel? Does UK use a cannon? Does Uk play Fly like an Eagle or In the air tonight during pregame? The answer to all questions my friend is no. I hope that my post answers your question.
