  1. This is for you Obama fans. What change do you honestly think Obama will bring to this country as POTUS?

Not an Obama fan, far from it but the one change is a black man will be the leader of the free world. What change will that bring to the perception and beliefs to the rest of the world? Regardless, that is perhaps the most significant change.

Another change and probably most frustrating to many in Republican leadership is the youth movement in the 18 to 25 crowd. They may not and probably will not vote but their involvement is unprecedented in recent history.

His actual changes politically, probably not much. But then again what did Clinton and Bush really change in the past 16 years?

  2. The notice that I published came to me in the form of a press release. My assumption is that Mel's assignment in the grand scheme of things was to prepare and distribute the press release.

It clearly states in the context that Campbell County will serve as the host school and be in charge of the tournament finances.

Anthony Strong has spearheaded the effort since its inception and nobody has tried to "steal his thunder." Since then I do believe that it has been a joint effort among all of the athletic directors of the 37th District.

When the information crossed my desk, I published it verbatim to BGP, knowing that there are many out there very interested in 10th Region basketball and particularly the site of this year's 10th Region Tournament - nothing more, nothing less!

It would have been a more professional to acknowledge those who actually got it done! Not one mention of the superitendent but someone who had nothing to do with it puts his own name in this "press release" several times. Glad the coattails are long enough to ride on!

  3. I do not accept or buy into your stereotype propositions. I know some extremely wealthy people who send their children to public schools. I know many middle and lower class who send their children to private schools. By the way, not all private schools have a religion class. I guess you never heard of private, military schools. You also hold onto some point of a firing over a sport vs. a teacher. Like that could not be a major lawsuit if that actually happened. As with all things called a teacher firing, there is always more to the story the teacher does not always tell, like the truth.

  4. My post had nothing to do with public or private. It just happens to be the only option right now. If we were to go to a voucher program wouldn't all schools be technically private. And I also agree with you on the test scores.

Vouchers for Kentucky. Question to this premise, would the dollar amount be what the state provides to the local school district? If so, how would that work given the difference of what Jefferson County gets vs. Cumberland? Would you also suggest a local generated tax would have to be voucher qualified as well?

  5. Tenure is something that gets blown out of proportion imo. Here are some things that if removed might actually help:

    1. The emphasis on college prep for all students.

    2. The emphasis on KATS testing.

    3. The lack of emphasis on vocational training and its value in educating children and preparing them for real world living.

    4. The tolerance for putting up with students who continually disrupt the learning process.

    5. The ease of which students are identified as "special ed". Especially when a student is really just an unmotivated jerk.

    6. The joke that is "No Child Left Behind".

    7. The idea that it is a positive thing to "mainstream" a child so that instead of being in a setting where he/she can succeed, he/she is destined to fail - and everyone involved knows they should fail... but they are given modifications so that they pass. Nothing is learned, but the paperwork adds up for the state requirements.

That's enough for now. Maybe more later...

Quite a bit of this compliments of Conservative Republican leadership I might add.

  6. And at times, remove good, no great teachers, who have perturbed a board member because they didn't play their child enough on the sports field.

    All tenure is NOT BAD.

And despite your claims, bad teachers with tenure can and have been removed.

I guess you would also be for removing the protection of unfair firings that unions provide their workers?

I find your point of view to be in conflict. On one hand you say if you had vouchers, you would use it. On the other, you defend the very thing that really separates private and public education. All private teachers are held to the standard each year. They fail it, they are fired yet you support their approach?! As for playing time in a sports field I am sure you can point to some malcontent teacher who would make that story to be true and teachers must be protected by it. Why? No one has job protection anymore and I do not think anyone should be entitled to it. Unfair firings, help me understand what a fair firing is. There is a private school teacher who by all accounts did an outstanding job for over 20 years. This past year, she was fired. I really did not have much empathy for the teacher. What she did was wrong. There is nothing wrong in being held and it always seems to be a better result when people have something to lose if they do not do a good job.

Unions, I am sure the great unions of the past are nothing like the evolution of what these organizations are today.

  7. I think its time Campbell Co and Highlands got back to scheduling one another. I would much rather see the Camels on the schedule in 09-10 then Ryle two times.

Congrats to the Camels as they seem to be rebuilding that program into a contender.

I am sure the Camel leadership is just waiting for the opportunities to accomidate the desires of the Ft. Thomas program.

I think it was the Highlands program that stiffed armed the Camels schedule in years past - twice. No need to go down that road for a third time for quite awhile.

  8. Great results from coaches who actually become hands on in their fields! You can also tell they do research on field related items and materials. Just like students in a classroom, if the coach goes out and prepares hard the results will be very clear! Great job and good example for others to learn from.

  9. I don't think the Bluebirds will have to recruit elsewhere. There is a A1(Freshman 08) team that made it to the Semi's that is mostly Ft. Thomas Kids and a B2(Freshman 09) team that is mostly Fort Thomas kids that made it the the finals. Both teams are Div. 1 Knothole.

They don't recruit now do they? I thought that was against any and all rules.:thumb:

  10. Never said any of the bolded. Keep your opinions to your opinions and quit putting your opinions onto me.

You assume that one way is better.

It is glad to know that you think that teaching 2 + 2 changes.

You obviously have some sort of resentment towards educators. Sorry about that.

I have no problem with being held accountable. I have a problem of being a political hostage to the latest person trying to get elected and throwing out the WRONG perception that schools are this horribly failing place and they are the one to change it.

Fair enough, will remember that when it comes to teacher pay.:thumb:

  11. Observations...

    1. I am happy that the school that I teach at was part of the 70% that met their goals.

    2. I am fine with change...as long as it follow a research based, sensible line of thinking. A good teacher has to change continuously, regardless of what current policy is in place. 3. NCLB is good in principle, but not in actuality. When special needs teachers that have been teaching for 25 years are not listed as "highly qualified," something is wrong. This is just ONE example of the numerous problems with it.

    4. Current successful educators at all levels should be included in any committee designed to make changes to education. What worked five years ago, does not work now.

This is exactly why you are part of the group that met its goals. Congrats! Thanks for understanding the world, including education, is an evolving process.

  12. Never said any of the bolded. Keep your opinions to your opinions and quit putting your opinions onto me.

You assume that one way is better.

It is glad to know that you think that teaching 2 + 2 changes.

    Whatever:rolleyes:

I have resentment towards hypocrisy and unaccountable behavior and refuse to advance mentality. Teachers do not hold kingdom in their classroom. If NCLB showed anything it clearly demonstrated unaccountable actions by several. Not a majority but several. And guess who came to the defense of those who failed to do their job????

  13. Have you ever been a teacher?

How would you like about 90% of what you have to do as a teacher to change every 4 years or so?

We have spent the past 4-6 years in numerous PD's either learning what we need to do for NCLB or the changes recently made in the KY testing system.

Great chance that both are going to change and everything we have been taught, told to do, and changed lesson plans for in the past 4-6 years is of no use.

We will spend the next 4-6 years learning, analyzing, and studying what we are supposed to do for the next group of politicians KNOWING that in about 7-8 years all that we have learned is of no use.

How about the politicians let the education people handle education and them stick to politicking.

This is what I love most about the teaching profession. Just leave us alone and don't hold us accountable and don't make us improve, and oh by the way pay us more.

Guess what, go get a reality check - those who work in various industries except for the safe haven of tenure change literally daily. It is called being effective, improving, etc. EVERYONE who works will agree change is something that is not an option but an expected requirement. Oh, in my work, I change 100% every chance I get to be better than what I am up against or compared to. So I embrace it. Your words clearly show you resent anyone coming into your classroom and pointing out where things need to be better.

By the way, the education people had their chance to run education. Everyone should have a boss. Teachers seem to have forgotten about that years ago.
