Worked in TV at WBKO in BG while at Western as a Broadcasting major and let me say it was awful to have to call him and ask for highlights sent to us for UofL or UK. It was made clear to us that we were a complete hinderance on him and his staff and we would get whatever he felt like sending. But when WKU hoops was in the Sweet 16 or football was winning the Natty, then we owed him for past deals and we better send it right away. This lawsuit does not surprise me in the least bit. This is his character and what he is capable of.

That being said, I was on the opposite sideline calling the game on radio for T and saw the whole thing. As a video journalist, you are taught to film with both eyes open, one in the lens and the other watching for plays like this. If you have both eyes open, you don't get hit. The person who taught me that worked for Fred at WLKY.

I know I am obviously biased, but you've seen the video and read the lawsuit...This will be a quick case and Freddy can take his keister back to New York where he belongs and hopefully Rob and Rob make sure he never sees Jansing Field again.

This is what I've been told about the real Fred Cowgill....and more stories like this are coming to the surface.

Think David Simms (Don Johnson) from Tin Cup, or better yet Phil Mickelson...... simply frauds.

Hopefully a retirement is in the very near future.

I tend to agree.  If this case is successful then because of the precedent I believe every school would have to ban everyone from the sidelines unless they are an active player, coach, or some type of official.

Think about the Pandora's Box that could come of it.....an official gets hurt, why can't he then sue.  On so many levels, this needs to be shot down.

  3. Let me say, that I've had the utmost respect for Fred, until today.  Why in the world attack a school that grants you absolute freedom in roaming the sidelines.  Trinity has always had a "congested" sideline.  However, in this example, not even remotely.  You see the other videographer to his right, clearly gets out of the way.  Maybe had other "factors" in play that night.  I have no idea.  But I know Dr. Mullen, and if I were him, I would fight this to the end, on principle alone.

Fred should be embarrassed by this action.  How in the world, he thought this would play out well, I will never know.  I hope that he retires in the very near future.  He has embarrassed our entire local media, and there's no turning back at this point.

He deserves nothing but the shame that he is being for this.

You want to cover our "exceptional athletes" (his words, not mine), then do so at your own risk.

  4. I am still sitting here concerned....while it's elitist to say, sitting at #3 doesn't sit well with me.  We have numerous examples in front of us, where things haven't righted yet....  see Highlands after Mueller, and X post Glaser.

If we don't figure out the offense, not only will it impact this year.  It will have an impact for years to come.

  5. I'm very very concerned about our program right now.  We just lost a legend.  I'm not a huge fan of keeping a staff after coach leaves (ie Kragthorpe era)....I guess that we shall see.  But the offensive game planning is a concern for me.

Hope y'all have been well.....been away awhile, but now it's almost kickoff time.

His stuff on the quick game and his DVDs are of course excellent. On one is his example game plan against SK and on another he talks about using opponent mascots as code words lol.

We did that....also, we would change it now and again...some years the audibles were states north and south, east and west...some years mascots, never colors or anything like that.

Whenever I hear about Coach Coverdale I always think of this:

    From Amazon.com:

One of the key things to understand about the bunch concept is that it is a principle as opposed to an entire offensive system. As a result, this book can be extremely useful to you, and specifically what you already do, regardless of your basic system and philosophy. The ideas in this book can be applied and taught to enhance the chances of players who are operating within most any fundamental offensive framework. Pro set, wing-T, run-and-shoot, single-back, split-back veer, ace with two tight ends and two wide receivers, and flexbone are among those offensive sets' general styles of attack that fit this bill. With this goal in mind, we introduce you to the bunch attack.

  8. I am excited about this hire....but will be honest.  I am very concerned about who our OC is going to be.  Just because they know our system, doesn't mean that given certain situations and scenarios, we'll have the right play called.  That hasn't been a concern over the last 21 years with Beatty, Cove, and Sam Adams.... hoping that continues.

  9. Matt Elam, John Hardin High School, 6’7” 372 DT, class of 2014, 5 star recruit, #21 rated prospect in the nation. Selected for Army All American game in 2014. Heavily recruited by Alabama and Kentucky. Visited by Nick Saban. Selected Kentucky.

I hate to bash, but I really feel that he was recruited and touted mostly due to size, and padding stats against far inferior talent. He was a D1 talent, no doubt, but would never have seen the field at Alabama.

  10. I put the following in another thread, but it makes more sense here:

The thing that Beatty has done that is most impressive to me is to adapt to the team that he has that particular year when refining his offense. Two years ago, when they had Rondale Moore, a very accurate but weak-armed QB, and a below average offensive line, Trinity was mostly in spread, no-huddle on offense that featured a quick passing game and jet sweeps. This year, they were under center A LOT with multiple TE’s and sometimes a fullback. In the championship game, they ran the ball 50 times and threw it 15. That is not the Bob Beatty offense of just 2 years ago or especially when he first came to Trinity. In high school football, the best programs tweak their schemes to fit the strengths of that team while maintaining the core of their system. They also have answers to situational football. Trinity does this well. Even in years where they primarily feature the spread, they have a short yardage and goalline offense. In years when they feature the power running game, they have the capacity to spread it out. That is good coaching.

This, right here. People may not believe this. But Bob is a big time run type of coach. When they are passing, it's mainly with putting the players in the right position to make plays. At the high school level, if you have proper protection, the right scheme, and an adequate QB, you can move the ball. It's only when you can pound the rock, that you can truly dictate the outcome of the game. Our lines were great this season. On both sides of the ball. Deuce is right, we went vanilla in the first game against Male. I'm not saying I disagreed with that game plan. But I'll say this. We were, indeed, the better team. That was shown on Sunday.

re: Bob retiring. It's coming. It won't be next season, but after that, I don't imagine he'll be around for long. He was not planning on being here as long as he has. But, Louisville does this to people. It's a great place to live, his immediate family has stayed here. Factor all of that in, with our community, and I can understand the desire to stay. That being said, my biggest fear, or concern, is for the next man to step up. I, for one, hope we do another national search. This job is a top 15-20 job in the country. It deserves that caliber of coach.

    Trinity Forever

  11. A dominant win. One that the score didn't really indicate how the game went down. That being said, I won't lie, if I wasn't thinking about, when the lead was high, about the times that they squandered the leads in the past.

This team's upside potential is huge. But it's one where they can't let up. There is no one that is above complacency.

  12. While I would've been pleased with Brohm taking over the reigns...I always had apprehension. You see, I don't like when a school hires their own. Especially those that are in the "hall of fame" at school. There is a potential for disaster. What if. Simply what if, it doesn't work and you have to let the coach go (see Wolford at X, and other examples).

I was disappointed when Jeff chose to stay at Purdue, but I couldn't be upset. How could you be upset when a man chooses to be loyal to a program that has given him a huge opportunity? I respected his decision and wish him the very best moving forward.

Purdue has been dealt a tough tough hand this season. They've suffered a myriad of injuries and the deck is stacked against them. They are indeed fighting, as I expected a Brohm coached team would.

In the end, I feel that Tyra had coach Satterfield on his radar, but gave us, the fans, what we we wanted, in going after Jeff. When that didn't happen, he went with his gut, and went after Satterfield, and his entire staff. The continuity of the staff has been huge. These men are proven leaders, and tremendous teachers. Who knows what the future holds. However, I will say, it appears to be a bright one.

I will continue to root for Jeff and his team. There is no real reason not to. But now, I am fully on board with what Satterfield Co. are doing with the boys that we root for. Purdue will be fine, in the long run. Louisville will be fine in the long one. And, we still get to embrace the Brohm legacy here, and we should, as fans, always welcome them back.

I can not wait to see what the next 2-3 seasons brings. Many will say, he's (Satterfield) gone, after some marked success here. If that happens so be it. I will trust in the process going forward.
