I am a Henry Clay fan and I've been to 4 or 5 of their games this year. I don't think that Dunaway should be mr. basketball. He looked awful during the Scott Co. game they absolutely shut him down. He did play good agaisnt Tates Creek (at Creek) but I don't think he played well agaisnt Station at Frankfort.

I think Slaughter is a better choice (I've only seen him once though) but from all the info I can gather I would go with A.J.

SL played great, NCH did not look like the #2 team. O.J. likes to stand around and shoot three's. To his credit he did get hit on the arm on some of his threes and it was not called but overall he did not look as good as I thought he did. Walker is an athelete and nothing more. Ellis looked pretty good. Hammonds played really well for SL. O.J. spent half of the third quarter on the bench w/4 fouls including a technical. Ellis picked up foul #3 in the 1st quarter and SL then made a run.

NCH seemed like they didn't come to play. I don't know why O.J. didn't penetrate or post up, I guess the zone had to do with it. He didn't even bring the ball up, just stood on the wing and shot. And mostly missed. He did hit clutch FT's to seal the deal.

in my opinion people who are very good at basketball especially in ky are puttin themselves in a situation that makes them sort of a minor celebrity, it isn't nearly as high as the level of people on the uk b-ball team but it is the same type thing, it seems to me that they get plenty of praise and everyone talks about them and likes them, but, on the other hand when something goes wrong they do pay the price, for example gerald fitch and eric daniels got into a little trouble last year that was all over the news and if that would have happened to a normal college student then it wouldn't have been a big deal, that is the price they pay for fame, i believe it is the same way in ky high school basketball, most high schoolers would love to be really good at basketball and have people pay to come and watch them, that is every little boys dream in ky to be the representing your school and your community but like it or not, when you put on that uniform you will be put under the microscope (especially if you are good, play for a team with a lot of tradition and play in an area where b-ball is popular) look at lebron james he is awesome at basketball and famous but he has cameras around him all the time that is the price you pay, you can't have the best of both worlds, my advice to people is to enjoy your days in high school basketball because most people would love to be in your shoes

wow, that is crazy, who ever heard of a person going from the 9th grade to the 8th grade, his mom is doing the absoutle opposite my mom would do, she is putting athletics over academics, what kind of message are you sending to your children, what happened to the good old days where you played in the district that you lived in and in the grade you should have been in, that is what makes stories like milan (in) (the hoosiers) so special they did it with home-grown boys and that is why i like teams who can win with what they got and don't need help from the outside, teams like lafayette (2001) and e-town (2000) did it the right way, am i way off base or is it absolutely riduclous to go from the 9th to the 8th grade, people need to realize this life is about progression, when i started going to high school i played b-ball agaisnt other high school kids, that makes since to me

okay here is the deal...

a few weeks ago i posted some history on montgomery county football, this was before the announcemnet was made that we were free to post on any sport, i must admit i don't know too much about football at mchs but i have some b-ball knowledge, i just finished up my finals at uk (friday) some i'm going to post some b-ball info, (if you want please disregard the football info and focus on this)

i hope you enjoy the info but even if i don't win a scholarship i must say i will have a blast writing this, i'm going to start about 8 years ago because that is when i really started following the team and that is when we became a squad to contend with

1994-1995 season: (22-8) billy ray fawns (who went on to play at georgetown college) outdueld shawn myrick (who went on to play at cincy) as fawns had 49 and myrick 42 as montgomery outlasted mason in the region finals to put the indians in their first ever sweet 16, fawns hit a three with about :12 left in regulation to force ot, he came up big in ot hitting another late three to force double ot at the fieldhouse, in the 2nd overtime with ryan stegar and many of the other indian starters fouled out, seldom used junior chris congelton buried a beyond nba range three to give the indians the lead for good

the first round of the sweet 16 saw the indians play paintsville which featured freshmen todd tackett (clemson and uky) and jr vanhoose (marshall), fawns again hit a three with only a few seconds to go to force ot and the indians hit there free throws before a very large and loud montomgery crowd at rupp arena

the next match was the quarterfinals and the indians fell to the quickness and trapping style of louisville prp which featured point guard charlie taylor (u of L) and 6-10 michael lockhart, this ended a magical run for the indians who had two players (lee clemons and ryan stegar) hit shots from beyond half court at the end of quarters,

billy ray fawns ended his career with 1865 points and 972 boards in 112 games (an average of 16.6 points and 8.6 rebounds for his career0 and oh yeah, fawns was 6'8

1995-1996: (18-11) The indians again found themselves in the region finals but, due to intense flooding, the final game was moved from saturday night to sunday afternoon, an odd time to play a regional final which made for an odd atmosphere, the harrison county thourghobreds defeated the indians in the finals behind a packed in 2-3 zone and the stellar play of big man rob ogden (georgetown college), ogden blocked stegars's final shot from the baseline, seniors ryan stegar, bradley taylor, kirk hammonds, ryan owens, chris congelton, nathan shortridge, and aaron piersal closed out their careers as indians (stegar closed out his career with 836 points), bart rison invited to be a coach in the ky-indiana all star game

1996-1997 (9-19)

A somewhat rebuilding year for the indians, many seniors quit or were injured leaving lee clemons as the team's only experienced senior, clemons, who also played qb for the tribe, did all he could but struggled trying to carry the load, juniors brandon harris, brad howard and cornell king also started

1997-1998 (12-17)

The big three of harris, howard and king could not lead the indians to much success.

1998-1999 (23-7)

A surprising senior class really stepped up for the indians. 6'2 william strange was a strong workhorse underneath, josh hall really shot up from the previous year to about 6'6 or 6'7 he provided the team with a much needed inside presence, hondo hearne and kc jones transeferred in from powell county last year and hearne scored a lot of points for the indians while jones provided a three point threat, logan richmond also gave the team size, quinn stevens and jr dj jointer were the teams key guards along with kevin roberts, steven early was a threat from the wing

brandon snowden (berea) was another big man

1999-2000

Athlete dj jointer who was also an all-state soccer player was a tremdous gurad for the indians, the only other senior was guard travis montgomery who was a scrappy player that was mr hustle, jv coaches son akeem scott (campbellsville u) was one of the team's top guards, chris early (transy) was another guard, three sophomores received playing time, all football players to, chris mullins (union) derrick carty and joe manning

2000-2001

Chris mullins was the teams top player, a tough inside presence he led the team to the semifinals of the region where they fell to campbell county and kevin reinhardt, akeem scott also contributed heavily

2001-2002

One of the greatest indian teams ever was led by 5 seniors. Guards matt parker and will toy, forward derrick cary and big men chris mullins and cody nickels, they led the team to the region finals where they fell to the mason county royals in overtime, it was a classic battle as mullins finished with 30 and chris lofton absolutely lit it up from behind the arc for the royals, the tribe lost all three of its meetings with the royals but beat the clark county cardinals twice

2002-2003

so far a rebuilding year for the indians, they are led by senior brandon bromagen, the jayvee teams was undeafted last time i checked, look for the indians to be back to normal in a year or two

finals at uk end the 20th or 21st of december

well i am a full time student at the university of kentucky, i graduated from the fine school of montgomery county high school in 2000, although we have not fielded winning teams in the last few years we really got the job done in the mid 90's, twice we lost in the region or semi-finals of 3A, we lost once to hopkinsville and we ended up getting the loss reversed a few years later because it was discovered that hopkinsville's star tailback ( i won't say his name) was older than the khsaa's legal limit of 19years 9 months at the time of the contest, so in theory we were named runner up, i remember a battle deep in the playoffs with paducah tilghman and their star rb brandon warfield, it was a great game

our team operated from the wing t that year, we had a hardnosed powerful fullback, two quick running backs and a very athletic qb, we would usually run but occasionaly throw the bomb to burn the d from putting 8 in the box,

the previous year we ran a scheme that few teams have ever run (a no quarterback offense) how does this work you say, well we would normally line up with two backs in the pro-formation and the center would snap it to one of them, he could run, pitch, pass, option, whatever, it was awesome

that is it for montgomery county (where i went) but i will include a few details about the former city school where my dad attended , the mt. sterling trogans (the school merged with montgomery co in the 70's) a book has recently been written about their state champion team which occured a few decades ago, my grandad played in the state tournament b-ball for mt. sterling high and i am constantly asking him about it

Finally, i must say i love high school football, i spent my first two years in college in florida and although i saw some great football every friday, it was nothing like the atmosphere at kentucky high school football games, i try to pick a game and go every week, only two more to go,
