  1. I was doing some research and the average margin over victory in title games since 2007 is 22 points. The breakdown is as follows:

6A: 29 point average margin of victory

    5A: 27 points

    4A: 19 points

    3A: 17 points

    2A: 16 points

    A: 23 points

Do we just chalk it up to the dominance of teams like Trinity, Highlands and Bowling Green? I have never been and would like to go one year but I live in Lexington and I don't want to drive 2.5 hours to sit in the freezing cold just to watch a blowout.

Any ideas as to why there are so many blowouts? Is it easy to predict whether games will be a blowout or close before these finals? I would like to pick out one of the six finals this year to attend that has a chance to be close.

I know at the basketball sweet 16 there are lots of neutral fans and it is a good atmosphere. Are the football finals mostly just small crowds made up of fans of those specific teams and not as many neutral fans?

Why are public schools like Highlands so dominant almost every single year? Coaching? Facilities? Emphasis of the youth football programs? others reasons?

  2. I've been going every year it has been at Rupp (except one year) since I've been in 1st grade (I'm 33 years old currently). Some of my ideas on how to increase the fan experience...

    1. Free wi-fi at Rupp with better cell service

    2. Don't have it during the NCAA tournament (and if they must then they should have the NCAA tournament games playing in the monitors in the concourse like they did back in the 90s) or at least have better wi-fi service.

    3. Charge only $10 per session

    4. Consider moving the first round to Memorial

    5. Consider having sectionals so that maybe only 8 teams go to Rupp.

    6. Find a way to seed the best 4 teams

    7. Cut down on the length of media timeouts and time in between games (I don't like to sit through all these KHSAA presentations)

    8. Cut it back from 5 days to 4 because people who come from far away don't want to pay for a hotel for an extra night.

    9. Don't charge as much for concessions

    10. Bring back more kid friendly activities (they used to have these in the 90s)

    11. Some of the regions are just awful, I don't enjoy seeing mediocre teams make it to Rupp (not sure what they could do about this, maybe having sectionals or finding a way to even out the talent in the regions but keep it somewhat geographical (if possible). Note that the KOB has better basketball games as compared to the Sweet 16 many years. As a fan it would be fun to see the best of the best play at Rupp. Sometimes I would rather go to watch the 7th region games as opposed to the Sweet 16 if I had to pick one.

    12. Let fans come and go as they please during sessions (get your hand stamped and come back during the same session), especially if wireless is bad and you want to watch a few minutes of the ncaa tournament at the hyatt between games.

  3. Faulkner completely took Darius Williams out of the game with his defensive effort, but Hollingsworth play was enough to carry Dunbar to the victory. He is a great player. Also Mercer had the ball down 1 with about 12 seconds left but they burned their final timeout. They got the ball to Hager in the corner, he drove, but Dunbar played great defensive and collapsed on him, forcing the turnover. Great game!

  4. They seed the top 25% of teams in the KHSAA tennis tournament and should do the same here. It isn't hard to know that Mercer, Dunbar, Christian Co, and Bowling Green should be seeded (though an argument for Trinity could maybe be made after going through the 7th gauntlet.) They should at least make an attempt to seed. The NCHSAA (North Carolina) seeds teams and it works well.

  5. Augusta played great and had a great gameplan of taking advantages of mismatches.

Jones and Fuller played well for Montgomery but all the other guys really struggled. Montgomery should have helped more on defense and not allowed so many layups. They should have tried to stay on Maddox but make the other guys beat them from deep. They should have kept Jones under the basket to try and block shots instead of having him and Shelby out guarding the perimeter. That being said Augusta still probably would have won.

I hope they beat Mason tonight.
