Not gonna say I wasn’t expecting this, wish highlands could’ve kept it closer but Ohio football is just different, especially elder this yr. With that being said highlands is coming off a huge win vs cov cath who is gonna make a state run and they look pretty damn good in every other game this season. They’ll be more than fine vs ky teams coming up.

GC supposedly has a really good running back. I didn’t see anything that suggested that. Was impressed with their QB, even tho on the smaller end and threw a couple picks, made a few great throws. One on a corner route about 20 yards downfield before the wr broke and was on the money, also had a play where he zigzagged through the pocket doing his best manziel impression before dropping a floater in wr arms for about 30 that I think got called back for a flag. Had a couple other good throws that were dropped. Line wasn’t getting any push on either side unless it was backwards. Offense started first two drives on sk 32 and 50 only to come up with field goals. Only touchdown of the game for them was a 97 tipped pick 6. Offense got another fg in second half. Kicker did successfully kick two on sides which was a bright spot and then another one where sk played hands team and he booted it to about the 3 till it stopped and sk picked it up starting that drive inside their 10.

Sk dominated this game. Game felt more lopsided than score suggested even with sk winning by 20. Pioneers line dominated Both sides of the ball , sk didn’t pass much but Webb made a really nice throw while rolling left to Pendleton on a corner route about 30 yards down field. Webb showed he could move with his legs when called. Brown had strong running and was bouncing off tackles. Harris didn’t contribute much which was kinda suprising besides first play of the game where he caught a backwards screen and threw a 70 yard touchdown. Pendleton had a strip, and a pick 6 in the second half. Ober looked like he was in the backfield all night. Defense overall looked great. Only thing GC could get going was a couple runs to the outside where at most they picked up 10-15 and a few quick outs to their slot receivers. Strong outing from SK.

They run a shell defense, basically a man but isn’t, anything underneath is always open because they’re playing too far back to start and then they have trouble breaking up contested balls without causing a flag or allowing the catch on anything deep.

Called a timeout in final minutes of the game to run a dive on 3rd down inside their 30. Truly don’t understand the play calling. They were having lots of success throwin the ball.

Defensively for sk, it just looks like they don’t really work on their pass converge at all. Same issues all season long. Playing too far back, especially other teams key guys ( scheme isssue ) and then when the ball is in the air they never turn around and look for the ball, they play the receivers hands almost waiting for them to make the first move and are often late or end up hitting them before ball gets there and a flag is thrown. I don’t think I’ve seen them run man all season, everything looks like a zone. They barely blitz if ever, only on goal line defense seems like. Run defense has been solid but have been getting absolutely torched in passing game.

Rewatch the game if possible. Station had a few good players but Harris barely was involved in the game plan, unsure why, easily best player on field . Pendleton was getting 10 yards it felt like everytime he touched the ball for sk and had atleast 6 receptions, also had a stripped fumble td that was called back for a flag. 4 on station was great in open field but had a couple drops on dimes from the QB , was impressed with stations QB tonight, made a few good reads waited for plays to develop and then delivered some really nice throws. Sk QB was up and down, had some nice throws and a few bad ones. Two that were picks, one under thrown and another behind the receiver. Lines were pretty even matched, station couldn’t get anything going up the middle but coaches knew to get their playmakers outside, for some reason sk hasn’t figured that out in week 6, continued to try and ran up the middle when majority of the time it wasn’t working.

Good win for station but could’ve gone the other way easily.

Some of the worse coaching and decisions I’ve seen from a game. Absolutely horrible. Simon Kenton had the better players and play calling was horrible. Penalties killed drives and extended drives for Bryan station. 21-14, Simon Kenton hall 3 mins left and ran 2 halfback dives on 1st and 10, 3rd and 5, for no gain and loss of yards. After a timeout at that, then calls timeout after to throw simple go route on their own 20.

Had a nice grab in the back of the end zone, perfectly placed ball by the QB and just as good of a catch. Electric with the ball in his hands and not easy to bring down, had a slant that with for 50+ ( got called back for a flag ) and a jailbreak screen that went for about 50 as well. 84 also had a really nice grab in the end zone where he caught it over his defender for what I believe was the first touchdown of the game. SK Qb threw for 4TDs, two to Harris, one to 84 , one to Pendleton

Grayson Harris again had a great game, easily over 100yards and a couple TDs. Both teams had a lot of penalties, Conner more than sk. Formations,holding, unsportsmanlike etc.. there was a punch involved in one. Both could definitely improve in that area. Simons Kenton defense would be solid if they could just figure out their secondary, tonight it looked they were in position to make a play with the ball in the air but got “mossed” or didn’t even make a play on the ball, just went for a tackle afterwards. Coach should probably work on what being “in-phase” and out of phase with them is, when to make a play on the ball and when to make a play on the receivers. Would probably help out a lot but what do I know, I’m just a causal watching under the Friday night lights

Sk was up 7-0 and looked like cougars were bout to score on the 5 to tie it up then Pendleton stripped the ball carrier, sk went up 14-0 at half. Ended up pulling away at the end. Both teams had some really nice contested catches. Was impressed at how well Simon Kentons QB handled himself and threw tonight. Line let some defenders in a few times, he avoided them for the most part and made some really nice throws. The run game for Conner was basically none existent, I don’t know if they had more than 25 yards. Sk was struggling to run the ball a little as well , had a few runs that broke loose a little but not much there for them.

Seemed like a lot more than 3, also had multiple times where they had to call timeouts because too many players. The 8 for beechwood is unlike them, was suprised by that, especially the unsportsmanlike.

Discipline is a coaching issue, whether that has been problem prior years of not is irrelevant. Had all off-season and the current season to work on that. That on top of play calling has just been hard to watch.

Excited to see what the outcome of beechwood vs cov cath next week will be. After watching both them vs sk. I’d say beechwood looked like the better team. Harney is tough to contain in the pocket and can take it 50 yards any play however.

On the bright side for Simon Kenton. As bad as the score was, their run defense looked good, a lot of plays that didn’t go anywhere for beechwood and they do have Grayson Harris who is easily top 3 WRs in nky if not #1 , kids a straight up stud, comes down with almost every contested catch and is a yac monster, not easy to bring down. Just need to have more of a identity than just get #10 the ball. When Pendleton got the ball he had positive gains everytime, need to get the ball in his hands more often. And QB needs to be a lot more decisive with his decision making and they’ll have a pretty good offense with that and browns power running.

Sounds like I’m hating right now, maybe that’s what I’m doing. But for as much hype as there was for coach Wynn, simple not impressed. Tonight there was atleast 4 false starts in the first half and it’s almost like they don’t even work on long snapping , another fg attempt that the snap was on the ground (snaps on punts have been bad as well), ending up getting blocked this time and taken back for 6 before half to give beechwood a even bigger lead with less than 20 seconds left. Would’ve been 17-3 and a little momentum going into half for sk, come out and get the ball back, instead it was 24-0 and a soul snatcher.

Simon Kenton has some size and a few decent players. Watching a few of their games it just looks like the coach has no idea what he’s doing. Burned all their times outs tonight in first half with 10 mins left in the second quarter. Costed them at the end of the quarter. If they’re getting beat up front by a faster / more athletic line , for some reason they don’t try and get their athletes in space, brown, Pendleton, Harris. Then when they did, it was very one dimensional, put them in motion and give them the ball. They had some success spreading the ball out and throwin it or doing the jet sweeps before half then they came out in a two TE set after halftime and tried to run it (didn’t work) No counters or good route concepts, they tried one screen that got picked off. Defensively they had their dbs 10-15 yards off every play and we’re getting picked apart. Granted beeechwood is a very good team as always. QB looked quick with decisions and athletes looked fast when they got the ball in their hands.

Harris is a dog, brown is a good power back but we must’ve been watching a different quarterback out there. Made a couple good throws when he had time, other wise and a number of occasions looked very timid , holds on to the ball for too long, not very mobile, made a couple throws trying to force it, another one where he missed a screen and it got picked by a linemen. Fumbled on the 1 for a QB sneak. Spiked it on 3rd down inside the 20 with 30 seconds left before half.
