So true, a lot of hype.  He has produced a 5/13 record with a 4.42 ERA.

Mr. Greene is starting to rub me the wrong way.  He needs a lesson or two in "maintaining a low profile."

During the delay at Pittsburgh Saturday night, prior to the start of the game, Jim Day took a tour of Greens bezillion dollar mansion in Arizona, with all of the tapestries of the rich and famous.  He has another here in Cincinnati that is in the lap of luxury.

He needs to take a page out of Barry Larkin's playbook.  I'm sure that Larkin has equally as opulent homes, but he doesn't flaunt them all over TV.  Whether I'm fond of him or not, he has at least earned them.  Green has done nothing of a sort.  He has no "Earnings" merely speculation money.

Perhaps he needs to produce and show those of us who put up the money that are affording him these luxuries, before he starts flaunting these and his lifestyle on TV.

Low profile Hunter!   Upps, It's too late.

How is it a "Big" gamble? That's not a lot of money in today's game. He might crap out, sure. You have that same gamble with every young player. If the Reds wait until he is a full fledged proven star, it would cost 3, 4, 5, maybe 10 times as much and odds are he'd be gone. At which point everyone would be whining that the Reds didn't lock him up when they could still afford him.

    I hope you are right.

I thought he was a bad use of a first-round draft choice when we drafted him, and here six years later I continue to stand by that opinion.

While we are getting good innings from him right now, albeit four of five, youngsters who throw 100mph, and have already experienced arm trouble, probably have a date with the IR list before long.

Again, I hope I'm wrong, I like the kid - Smart, articulate, etc., He checks all of the boxes, but he hasn't done a thing for us yet.

  3. Yea, Be nice to me.  I'm old and set in my ways.

It just seems so "over the top to me, and is a distraction to viewers.  If you ae listening on the radio you probably don't even notice the change much, but on TV we've got new craziness with countdown clocks, and God now what with the graphic showing runners on base and yellow boxes.  The tail really seems to be wagging the dog here.

  4. Wouldn't giving the home plate umpire the authority to issue an "unreasonable delay" warning, in those incidents, rather than apply this stupid pitch per pitch clock.  It seems like gross overkill to me.

Speed up the challenge process, OR the between innings gap which accommodates promotions and TV/Radio commercials.  Somehow, back in the day we never had issues with 3-Hour plus games.  Most games were played in under 2 Hours-30/45 minutes.

Here is a tidbit for you. In 1993, Cov Cath beat Beechwood in the regular season 31-3. Later that year in the district tournament, Beechwood beat Cov Cath 4-0, knocking CCH out of the post season. Brandon Berger hit a home run up 2-0, that may still be circulating the moon.

    Red Bird ain't Beechwood.

  6. I'm old.  I'm irritable, and I don't need more annoyances inserted into a simple game.

I don't understand it.  I don't want someone to explain it to me, and I really don't care.

This is a micro-management that the game does not need.  Balls and strikes being called without a pitch being thrown   Ok, and then there was the close throw-over pickoff attempt at first base, and the runner was awarded second base.  Enough is enough!!!  I am already SICK of it.

This gives John Sadek more trivial detail to attempt to explain on a pitch by pitch basis.

Have we lost our collective minds????    Play Baseball!!!

  7. As I watch our fundamentally unsound team play, I can't help but ask myself - What would Mac do???  Referring to Harrison County longtime, HOF Head Coach, Mac Whitaker.

Earlier in the week both the first baseman and the pitcher charged the same bunted ball, and no one covered first base.  I honestly think Mac would have pulled the first baseman, right then and there.

I think if Mac were in charge, the "Get 'em next time" attitude would exit the clubhouse,  and people would be held accountable.  Bell's milk toast persona is a big part of this team's issue.

    What would Mac do????

  8. As a coach or person closely associated with athletic programs this is your worse nightmare.

Each player who signs on to a football program does so to experience the thrills of being a part of a team, running out onto the field and playing under the Friday night lights, making memories for the rest of his life.  He and his family realize that their are risks associated with the glory, but never expecting something as tragic as this.  The kid in that picture could be any of our players on a given team.

So sorry for his family and the Pulaski community.  Our absolute worse nightmare.

  9. My bottom line is that I eat what I want and like.  Some of it is actually healthy - Asparagus, Brussel Sprouts, Salads, Spinich Salads, etc..   Drinking 2Liters ($2.78 each) of Diet Coke a day is probably not doing me any favors, but I hate water and really like Diet Coke over ice.

My original point of entering nto the conversation was about visiting the Pyramids which are over 4,000 years old.  Take a long piece of paper and write down 1 to 4,000 and somewhere in there block out 80 years and you will see how short and insignificant your (our) lives are.  Moral of the story is to Enjoy life for the short time we are here.  Why eat that crap if it is only going to prolong your live a few years.  In 100 years, and then in another 1,000 years another group of people will be standing at the base of those same Pyramids, trying to squeeze a few years out of life.

    How tall are you?

On exercise, buy a good pair of shoes and walk.

I'm 6 Foot tall. and can still climb into some tight places from which we broadcast at EKU, and more recently the Mason County Fieldhouse.

I'm fairly active, especially during football and hoops season, and have no trouble getting into and out of a boat..  I can still walk up to the press box at Bellevue and Dayton (Try It), and make the trek from our press box at the MAC to the playing field and back with a detour to the concession stand and men's room rather effortlessly.

I enjoy my daily three-hour naps.

For sure.  How do you know if you have good or bad genes? And why not try to get the most out of what you genes you have, good or bad?

Good genes, or darn lucky.  76, 260 and still going "fairly" strong.

Doesn't say that I don't drop dead tomorrow, which would be OK too, or be diagnosed with some terrible disease.  Eating my favorite foods is one of my pleasures of life, and at this stage, I'm not depriving myself to squeeze out a few more years, because I am quite aware that it will be all downhill from here.

I do occasionally get the urge to exercise, but then I lay down until the feeling passes.

  12. Funny how times change.

I remember the year that gas went up to a dollar a gallon, and there was supposed to be a gas shortage.

We took a group of kids to Myrtle Beach anyway.  The rooms were dirt cheap, there was free parking downtown, and we had the place pretty much to ourselves, without encountering any gas issues.

Now that gas is $3.50 a gallon, hotel prices are through the roof, and you can't find a place to stay.

Breakfast every day oatmeal with blueberries.

Lunch every day turkey wrap including spinach and carrots.

One cup of decaf coffee daily. One diet pepsi. Crystal Light tea the rest of day.

Dinner I limit red meat but I am less strict.

How many years am I adding to my life?

If you have good genes it won't matter, you will live a long time.

If you have bad genetics it won't matter what you eat or how much exercise you get, you will simply extend your health issues.

At least that's what I'm counting on.  🙂

  14. I remember the days at Saratoga Race Track, where the ticket lines would be two blocks long at 8am in the morning to purchase reserved seats.

About 15 years ago NYRA (New York Racing Association) switched to Ticketmaster.  The prices escalated, BUT the lines disappeared.  In that case you paid for the convenience of not having to stand in long lines.

  15. Go to Egypt.  Stand at the foot of the Pyramids.  Understand that they have been in the same spot for 4,000 years and you are like an ant that we observe walking across the sidewalk.  You suddenly understand what a brief span of time that we are on this earth.

With that said why punish yourself by eating things that are not delicious.  Enjoy your brief period here on earth.  What are a few years more or less in the grand scheme of things..  A lifetime is a lifetime - long or short.  Enjoy it while you are here.  Those pyramids are laughing at you.
