  1. Mustangs get into the win column in a Saturday night bout, with a 36-18 win over the homestanding Pineville Mountain Lions.

We overcame an 18-16 third quarter deficit, by laying 20 unanswered points on the Lions in the fourth quarter.

Junior Cam Mandel scored four Brossart touchdowns, and Tyler Holtz scored our first points back in the first quarter on a one-yard plunge.

We will take on familiar foe, Nicholas County, formerly a district opponent, next Friday night in Carlisle.

  2. Point well taken on the fact that here in Northern Kentucky our homes are two and three story mini-mansions.  Up north there are many older, smaller homes, and as stated perhaps the soil has a different composition.

Jumper Dad's revelation that Leaf Guard is selling an $8.000 product for $13,000,  makes it understandable why they are the kings of late-night cable TV advertisements.

As I drove home from the MAC (Mustang Athletic Complex) earlier today, I will bet that about half of those homes in Horizon Hill Subdivision (an older subdivision) would not need gutters.  Are they required by code???

  3. It seems that lately we have been inundated by advertisements for Gutters, with Leaf Guard making the biggest pitch.  They must be a very high-profit item.

Which brings me to ask the question - Why do we need gutters at all???

There must be a simple answer,  In the old days when everyone had cisterns they were used as a conduit to transfer water from your roof into your cistern, but few of us still have cisterns..

Do you realize that none of the homes in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan nor in Canada have gutters.   They extend the roof about three feet over the end of the roof, and water falls harmlessly away from your foundations.  Folks in the know tell me that it is a myth that no gutters would endanger your foundations.

Ice is an issue in the UP and Canada, and sheets of ice sliding off of your roof would certainly damage gutters, so perhaps that is a primary reason they don't have them, BUT if the Yoopers and the Canuks can do without them, I suspect that we can too.

    Set me straight.

  4. Agree tough loss.  However self-inflicted as pointed out.

We have not achieved the cohesiveness that I think is possible from this group.  Quarterback Keegan Gulley is coming off of a year layoff, and we are transitioning from a Run-First to a Mix of Pass and Run offense.

Landon Geyer's return to the lineup will give us another effective running-back.

Bethel-Tate, touted as a Pass Always team was equally effective on the ground consistently getting into the Brossart secondary.

With only a 4 pout margin, you can pick out a lot of situations that could have swayed the outcome.

    1Q  -  BB  -  3:35  -  Luke Schroeder 9 Yard TD Run - PAT Good -  7-0

    1Q  -  BT  -  :17    -  10 Yard TD Pass - Snider to Morris - PAT No Good  -  7-6

    2Q  -  BB  -  8:50  -  Keegan Gulley 19 Yard TD  -  Pat Good  -  14-6

    2Q  -   BT  -  8:32  -  Snider to Morris 38yards for TD  -  2PT Attempt No Good  -  14-12

    2Q  -  BT   -  2:41  -  34 Yard Pick 6 By Willie Rapp  -  2PT Conversion Attempt - No Good   14-18

    Final

Mustangs travel to Pineville next Saturday night at 6pm.

  5. Mustangs spot the Bearcats a 14-0 first quarter lead, then battle back with a chance to tie it on the final possession of the half, get stopped on the one yard line as time expired.

In the seond half, Walton pretty much owned time of posses, while tacking on a pair of Lincoln Mann field goals to account for the final score of 27-14

    1st Q  -  5:29  -  WV  - 4 yard TD run - Jackson Smith  6-0  -  PAT Good - Lincoln Mann     7-0

    1st Q  -  3:41  -  WV  -  3 yard TD run - incoln Mann  13-0  -  PAT Good  -  Lincoln Mann    14-0

    2nd Q  -  10:57  -  BB  -  39 yard TD Run Cameron Mandel  14-6  -  PAT Good  -  Tyler Smith  14-7

    2nd Q  -   6:07  -  WV  -  1 yard TDF Run Jackson Smith  20-7  -  PAT Good  -  Lincoln Mann  21-7

    2nd Q  -  2:45  -  BB  -  18 yard TD Run Keegan Gulley - 21- 13  -  PAT Good - Tyler Smith   21-14

The Half Ended with the Muangs at the Walton-Verona one-yard line

    3rd Q  -  6:38  -  WV  -  FG Good  -  Lincoln Mann  -  24-14

    4Q  -  10:35  -  WV  -    FG Good  -  Lincoln Mann  -  27-14   -  FINAL

Both place kickers Ty Smith (BB) and Lincoln Mann (WV)_ combined for five successful PATs, Mann hit 2 Field Goals and Smith was perfect on kick-off touchbacks.

  6. I'm REALLY, REALLY sorry to see Orlando leave Calvary.  He has done wonders with that program which was a rudderless ship prior to his arrival.

We certainly wish him the best in his future endeavors.  Good Man!

Best of luck to the Calvary program in finding someone as knowledgeable and dedicated to the Cougars as Coach Donaldson going forward.

  7. I put this in the same category of opening the box of your new uniforms.

You either love them or hate them, but you are stuck with them either way for the next five years.  The bright red does seem extreme, but might be really neat under the Friday Night Lights.  We will find out.  Our Brossart Mustangs are scheduled back in Ludlow again this season.

You could argue that black is an unofficial team color going back to the 70's and 80's as the Reds only allowed black shoes to be worn well after other teams allowed white and other color shoes. Additionally the most prominent feature of Mr. Redlegs is his huge black mustache.

We are talking primary uniform colors here.

Shoes and Mustaches are certainly not primary colors.

I have no problem with black as a trim.  As a matter of fact, I introduced a black trim to the two basketball programs that I have been associated with.  This whole Cincinnati "Connect" thing is nothing but a promotion, no different I guess than the Bengals wearing pure white unis.

  9. What is "Connect" Cincinnati???   Obviously a marketing ploy to get into your pockets and abstract money.

I object because our team colors are RED and WHITE - Not Black.  A few years back we started wearing the solid Red jerseys, which is OK with me since RED is a primary color.

Another case of "If it feels good, or if it sells tickets, just go ahead and do it."

A previous poster said the All "A" baseball is going back to EKU next year. It ran into a scheduling conflict this season. It still seems like you're going out of your way to be critical toward a small, rural school district who has worked hard to upgrade their facilities and also put on a good event that wouldn't typically be expected of them.

I made what in my opinion is an honest observation.

To be perfectly honest the football field n the outfield reminds me of an old song "The Train Runs Through The Middle of the House." IMO a Football Field has no place in the outfield of a baseball field.  I understand - Economics, but I don't have to like it.

I never said a derogatory word about the effort of the good folks at Campbellsville to host the event.

I did say that the players/fans are being deprived of the "Big League" experience that we used to enjoy playing at Applebees.

I think that you ae looking way to hard into my post to detect criticism.

Abomination? @Mustang Appreciate the opinion, but we didn't ask. The Tournament was run in a First Class Manner with many athletic programs pitching in to help the event go smoothly. We are very proud of our facilities and honestly, you are the first person I've heard comment/complain on the lines in the outfield. Anyway, we hope you had a Great Time...

OK, Maybe "Abomination" is a strong word.  But to me Baseball is baseball, and football is football.  I also understand economics and as myself and others have said, It is better than having no baseball field at all.  The phrase that comes to mind here is that "A Camel is a Thoroughbred designed by Committee."  Practical Yes, but radical in some aspects, yes.  In a board room, I'm sure it sounds like a great idea.  Obviously others are climbing on this bandwagon, BECAUSES IT SAVES MONEY.

I guess its the old school in me coming out, that we don't play baseball on football fields - just another sign of the times.

Congrats on doing your best to host a first-class "A" State Tournament, but again all change seems to be for the worse, and nothing can compare with playing the "A" at Applebee's/Whitaker Bank Ball park.  It's kind of like serving the good wine first, instead of progressing in the other direction.

  12. Take a look at the Baseball/Football complex at Campbellsville High School, the site of this year's All "A" State Tournament.  Your thoughts???

     Campbellsville-1.jpg.7f4215114d172eed9041761532151a9b.jpg

Note the odd layout of the Campbellsville High School Baseball/Football complex. I have three emotions seeing this. The first is "What a shame that the All "A" is no longer played at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington", which was a true big time experience for the players and fans. My second is that there is just something wrong with the entire outfield being a lined football field. Both come down to money. The All "A" no longer has a major sponsor such as Ashland Oil in the old days, and more recently Touchstone Energy. They are operating the progam on reserve funds and ticket sales. The second being the total practicality of the situation at Campbellsville High School. Unfortunately, it is a shame that in this day and age something like this would be even considered, but money talks, and this is obviously better than having no baseball field at all. You can all probably predict my third emotion - Thank God our powers that be (at Brossart) didn't see or take into consideration putting this abomination at the MAC. While we all anxiously await the completion of the MAC with our Baseball/Softball complex, the final result of a true baseball /softball complex will be worth the wait.

I didn’t expect to hear from you here. We usually don’t when things are going positive for a local team.

Oakland is a joke, but MLB changed the scheduling format and each team now plays one another, so it has nothing to do with being futile.

Hunter Greene gave up 0 earned runs in 5 innings of work. I already know your feelings on him throwing 112 pitches in 5 innings. Have a great day!

You've got me figured all wrong.  If anything, I'm a purist, who wants good baseball.  Peterson for Oakland is a disgrace to the sport.  Barraro is a bad baseball player.  Unfortunately the sport is so diluted that you have these inadequate players in "Major League" lineups.  Last year we suffered through Aristides Aquino.   I simply want the game played the way is should be played.  Most of the younger generations simply go to the games for a social outing.

As you may have figured out, I know nothing about contracts, free-agency, who owns whom, etc..

I hate the fact that we have new players in the clubhouse every week, and that there is no sense of TEAM.  We are merely a collection of players.  We are suckers for supporting these players who have no allegiance to the town and fans for which they play.

The media and guys like John Sadek who put earrings on these pigs on a nightly basis, really gets under my skin.

My comments on Hunter Greene are pretty much about how he perceives himself.   Don't brag on yourself until you actually accomplish something.   I hope he stays healthy, but he probably won't   I also realize that he has pitched in some hard luck this year.

No one's reputation has ever been based on what he is going to do.  I want him to maintain a low profile.  Don't get on TV and show me how you are spending your millions, and don't come off as an accomplished playter, becasue you are not.

Hunter Greene sets up scholarships for underprivileged students.

Greene donates thousands of cleats to youth program.

What a jerk Greene appears to be....

Barry Larkin wasn't all sunshine and roses either. Did you know he once made a scene about a specific area to sit/wait at Montgomery Inn on the river? Even asking if they were aware he was Barry Larkin? Larkin was my childhood idol, I love him, but that screams arrogance way more than allowing your house to be filmed.

I remember your argument about India's hair... I had more of a chance getting behind that one than this one.

Sorry, but all of these guys charities are tax write offs.  I'm sure Greene is a wonderful man, with good intentions and I'm happy that he is sharing some of his good fortune.

My point in this particular thread is that he needs to maintain a low profile, and not be flaunting all of his opulence all over TV.  To date he has done little to earn all of the perks of greatness.  Just be cool.  You are a kid six years out of high school.  Be a little more discreet about it.

My comments on Barry Larkin were specific to his not splashing his wealth  and lifestyle all over TV.  We all know that he is in love with himself, and I much prefer Brantley or Welsh as the commentator on broadcasts.  The topic here is not Larkin, but Greene. Larkin might be a jerk, but he has earned what he has.  Greene hasn't.
