It was apparent that Conner did their homework and watched tape on Cov Cath. Congrats to them and good work on a good win. Their defense was on point and they focused on the key areas that would beat of Cov Cath, which are:

    • Slowing down Ipsaro because you aren't going to stop him.
    • Move the ball quickly to expose Cov Caths often times unorganized Zone matchup defense.
    • Hit shots. Conner did this.
    • Assume that in game adjustments defensively by Cov Cath are few and far between.
      • Ruthsatz sticks with his plan and doesn't really deviate or adjust well always.
    • Make others score aside from Ipsaro
    • Focus on the interior if you have a height advantage. Conner did this well.
    • Hope Cov Cath is missing. This happened.

The 9th region is competitive and super fun to watch this year. Although, I do believe Cov Cath will be the victor emerging from the region pretty easy. Why? Experience, the best coaching, and player buy in and believing what it takes to win. Not making excuses but the foul discrepancy was major and it was lopsided against the Colonels.

I would much rather lose now versus later in the season. Losses expose weaknesses, which creates an opportunity for Cov Cath to improve. Count on this happening. Great game to Conner.

Don't think the Birds thought they'd be playing in the 7th place game ....    but they will be heavily favored in that game, regardless.

This is good for the Birds.  They have to learn to get an occasional stop or two.  Otherwise any decent offensive team will give them trouble.

#4 House for Seneca is a dude.

  3. Couldn’t feel more strongly about this.   These are great bonding trips for teams that travel. Used to coach at a NKY high school and our Christmas trips down south in hotel rooms were great ways to create team chemistry.

These also allow teams from different areas of the state to see each other. Love these.  If teams don’t like them then they can choose to not participate.

Can Highlands shoot like that against the good teams too? The Henry Clay game the shots didn’t fall.

They were missing career 50% from 3 point range sniper Will Herald.  That makes a difference.

Without Will you can focus the defense on Moeves and everyone else doesn’t get the same open looks.  With Herald and Moeves on the floor, along with the other capable shooters, it’s pick your poison.

Let me know when the Birds play a team with a winning record. Jus sayin.

I can say with certainty that Coach Listerman is currently on the phone cancelling games with anyone left on the schedule with a losing record.  He is ONLY calling teams with winning records.

I will update when I can confirm any changes.

I haven't seen the Birds live yet this year but have watched the scores like most people have. They have played well to start the season and probably the 2nd best team (behind Cov Cath) at this point. But I will say I think the high scoring games/output has at least "partly" been a product of who they have played so far. The combined record of the 6 teams played so far is 11-26. Again, not hating on what this team can do and clearly they have shooters but I might pump the brakes on them averaging 90-100 consistently. If they keep up that pace it will be very impressive. I do look forward to seeing them in person when they come to Holy Cross on January 4th. That game could clearly be high scoring. 🙂

Still have to make the shots.

I don't think scoring will be an issue.  Will they keep averaging 90? I don't know.  The bigger issue will be can they get a stop when they need it.  When other teams can score and keep up the pace will they buckle down and get a stop.  If they can do this, I think they challenge CovCath for the region.

Never say never but it would be a huge upset if they didn’t win the region. Most other teams don’t D up like coach Faust teams do, that’s a huge reason this game was this close. Also not having Kascyl, your second best player is also a huge factor. I’ve seen most of the contenders already, Cooper or St.Henry are the two I'd keep an eye just cause they defensive identity. Outside of that no chance!

I think using the word "huge" is a bit of a stretch.  Is CCH the favorite? Probably.  But I feel more confident this year saying that any one of 4-5 teams could beat them.  Will they, IDK? I think any of Lloyd, Cooper, Highlands, Conner, and possibly a healthy St. Henry can give them an L.  I don't think one could say that about so many teams the last 4-5 years.

Defensive stops are great and they for sure help you win, but teams like Lloyd, Highlands, and Conner who can fill it up on the offensive end always have a chance.

Dixie heads on the road to Fort Thomas and gets the decisive victory.  Dixie has great wings and perimeter players, so I'll be interested to hear how they handled Green in the post for the Birds, but obviously by the margin of victory they figured something out.  Highlands, like last year, is going to have to develop some guards / wings around Marisa to elevate themselves into that group of 6 at the top of NKY.

Green was coming off multi-day illness. Played, but not normal minutes and wasn’t herself.  Not saying this changed the outcome, but definitely contributed to the margin of victory for Dixie.
