Totally agree, also you have Robinson, Dunn and Reed....

I saw on football thread we might lose some players that have opted out....I haven't received that memo.  Do you know who?

Forgot about Reed, he is there and was a contributor last year.  I do not believe Dunn and Robinson are playing this year.

They will still have plenty of shooters with Barth and Herald.  Those 2 on any given night hitting 3's could go off over 20+ points.  They lose some size with Sam and Luke graduating but it will be interesting how Harris, Kocher and Benke bang down low.  I am sure the team will have some growing pains not having Sam and Luke but at the end of the season I am sure Listerman will have this team well suited to make a decent run.

Not to mention Geisler and the junior guards, Coby Kramer and Seth Ryan, who can fill it up as well.

Harris and Benke will be more than enough inside.  This team won't have the top dawg like they did last year, but sleep on them and they will surprise you.  The schedule will have them battle tested as well.  I promise they will give CovCath all they can handle in the 9th.

I believe the rule is that you have to sit out 1 year after Last playing varsity for a given sport, which that time frame hasn't been met. If khsaa is going to get rid of the rule fine, some consistency would be nice though!

That is the rule;  just like anything else loopholes can be found, information can be discovered, exceptions can be made.  Not saying I agree with it but that is the way it is.

I would think Cov Cath would not be upset at all at not playing Highlands. Neither school has a large facility where crowds would be a financial gain. I think Cov Cath is moving to be a more nationally recognized program and Coach Ruthshatz was involved with that type of program at St. Anthony's. Interesting to me that no one comments about the fact that they no longer play Moeller. I would think CCH would try to schedule them....have heard rumors about why they no longer play but I certainly have no information or knowledge about that. CovCath and Highlands should both easily win their district. Very likely they could meet in semis or finals of Ninth. But.....you never know what might happen!!

I have been told Moeller was not interested in playing CovCath for many off the court reasons. Find the hypocrisy in that if you wish…

Seems as though the “butt hurtness” is more so coming from the Cov Cath faithful than Listerman.

I can assure you the logic behind the schedule has nothing to do with players from across the river playing in Park Hills.  The Cov Cath act is wearing thin across the region.  Why else are other private schools refusing to play them? St X? Lex Cath? Trinity? It’s not a coincidence.

Bottom line, Highlands can schedule whoever they want, or not schedule whoever they want for ANY reason.

*not JUST about players from across the river, I’ll correct myself….

So wait, Listerman wouldn't schedule Cov Cath because, even though his team won the 9th last year and is the defending state champion, he's too butt-hurt about Cov Cath playing athletes from the other side of the river to possibly consider scheduling his players' biggest rival during their regular season. BUT then he turns around and schedules his team to play a literal prep school in the Queen City Classic?

That logic is a whole lot of fun.

Crazy I missed this thread last week!  I think this is very interesting and probably will gain more attention once everyone moves past football season and puts their minds into Basketball.

I think it is incredible that Coach Listerman has totally snubbed his school Cov Cath not even answering the call to potentially play them.

He is already become a LEGEND at Highlands winning State last year, but this move has put the cherry on top of his Fort Thomas Legendary Status!  I love it!!!!!!

    #GO BIRDS

There is a LOT of history between the Listermans and CovCath, most of the recent stuff is not good, and not only with Kevin.  Say what you want, from where you want, with whatever color of blue you wear....this rivalry both on and off the court is getting more intense if that is even possible.

Too bad they don't play at Highlands this year.  I GUARANTEE there would have been a ring ceremony, state title video, some type of tribute in the Fort on that night. Probably before each game and at halftime.  LOL....

Also curious about the offsides call that allowed for the 2 point conversion.  Anyone at that end know if it was a good call or not?  The official that made the call was the white hat the night of the Dixie game.

I was in the end zone there, it was a call that I believe could have gone either way, false start or offside.  Hard to tell live who moved first.  That’s one where whichever official is more vocal made the call.  Initially I believe they signaled false start, then huddled and changed it.  The highlands sideline was not happy.

No worries. Help is definitely on the way in the lower grades and middle school. The 8th grade alone has 60 kids playing football. We’ll be just fine starting next year after these boys hit the weight room hard under coach Sphires program and those in the know are excited for what’s to come, including the Coaching staff.

Unfortunately this has been the same statement/feeling from the last 5-6 years.  “Middle school talent” and “help is on the way” has not translated to the usual success.

I really hope the program turns the corner.

How in the world is there not a regular season game with Highlands for Covington Catholic?  The article alludes to schools not wanting to play Covington Catholic and lists Trinity St X and Lex Cath as schools that won't play Covington Catholic.  I seriously doubt that is the case with the defending state champs so what gives?

That is very much the case, Highlands won't schedule in boys basketball at any level.

What a sad state of affairs tonight in Ft. Thomas, realizing it takes more than a few months to build a winning team, you always hope for more, realizing you can only coach the talent you have. I have never experienced a miracle worker yet, but Coach Sphire is VERY Close! Go Birds!

What exactly in the last month or so makes you say that?  It looks and feels very similar to the last few years.

Honestly Newport would have taken the “L” regardless of a coach being hired from Newport High. Heck, you could give NHS NCC’s playbook and They would still with at the same Margin

Wasn’t referring to the game or score, I know nothing of either team and defer.  I was discussing the unusual circumstances around one coach leaving/being asked to leave a  program(I’m not 100% sure which) and joining another within the same year.  It doesn’t seem to happen much in high school.
