I started this post to raise a question about how officiating can improve. There is always room for improvement. There are some really good refs and some really bad refs. The officials that are professional are highly respected by coaches.

Most HS coaches make less than minimum wage and I doubt many make more than $10/hr.

That should not affect the way a ref calls a game. This just shows that they let their feelings affect their officiating.

The majority of the games I have only watched ges played in the 10th, 14th and 16th region. The level of officiating is a lot higher in the 10th region. Games played in the 14th and 16th seem like at least one, sometimes two, of the refs over shadow the good official.

I have watched 20+ high school basketball games this season. In every game there is at least a quarter that is dominated by the referees, the whistle blows every trip down. It seems like many of the refs are anticipating what will happen instead of reacting. Maybe KHSAA should go to two refs.

The Rowan v Elliott game was in Sandy Hook, not Morehead. The blueprint to beat Elliott is the same blueprint to beat any team that is better than you. Slow the game down and limit possessions. I don't know why more teams don't utilize the fact that there is no shot clock to their advantage. That being said, it will be hard to slow Elliott down if Spencer is allowed to hand check and body his opponent.

I also saw that Elliott County got beat in overtime to the AP #7 team in the state, McCracken County. Elliott was ranked #12 in the same poll. I think there are only two teams that stand a chance against the Lions, West and Morgan.

I watched Bath v Menifee Friday night. It was a wild game. Bath was up by 27 in the second quarter and Menifee came roaring back, cutting the lead to 5 in the 4th. A fight then broke out leaving one player from each team ejected. Bath held on and ended up winning by 13. Pergrem did not play for Bath and I was told he quit.

Craziest game of the season, hands down!

Wheeler is really good but front runner for Ms. Kentucky basketball seems a little much. I think she is number two in her region behind Menifee's Emma Hacker.

Basketball is a sport between two teams generally 5 on 5 to see who can score the most points in a set amount of time. This sport wasn't invented for television or to make money, it is a competition. If you want it to be for viewing entertainment and making money let's let guys carry the ball when they dribble and slide their pivot foot. Wait, we already do that! If you want to help the game and schools, go back to two officials. I would rather have two decent officials than one good one and two bad ones. One bad official can ruin games even if he's working with two good ones. It would save schools money by not having to pay the third official and it takes less officials.

Kids also want to shoot all 3's and play no defense. Let's just play with a girls ball and make the rim bigger. If we're going to do it let's go all the way, a 24 second shot clock would be more entertaining. Sarcasm! If you want to make games higher scoring, call hand checks and make it a non contact sport again.

High school basketball is a competition between teams to see who wins it isn't designed for entertainment. Years ago I was coaching youth basketball and the opposing coach had a big slow team and we were small and quick. Before the game he was saying I shouldn't fullcout press, I told him I wouldn't if he wouldn't offensive rebound. Just let them play 5 on 5 any style, it's a competition not entertainment.

Menifee wins at Powell and finished the game with one starter. Menifee was up 9 with two minutes when the ghost technicals narrowed the margin.

Pergrem and Porter for Bath are good. Trimble for Menifee looked good at the MSU team camp.
