1. Johnson Central (13-1): Notching back-to-back wins in Week 7, Johnson Central defeated Breathitt County and Pikeville. The Golden Eagles have won 10 straight games. Johnson Central knocked off Pikeville when the two 15th Region title contenders met in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic at Belfry High School on Saturday, Feb. 20. Currently, Cory VanHoose is averaging a team-high 17.4 points per game for the Golden Eagles. Johnson Central is shooting 39.1 percent (108-of-276) from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles have upcoming games scheduled versus Boyd County (Feb. 22, away), Prestonsburg (Feb. 24, home) and Martin County (Feb. 27, away). 2. Pikeville (7-6): The Panthers have dropped back-to-back games to region title contenders Knott County Central and Johnson Central. Prior to being sidelined during Pikeville's game versus Johnson Central, Rylee Samons was averaging 22.4 points per game. The Panthers are slated to face Belfry (Feb. 22, away), Jenkins (Feb. 24, home) and Shelby Valley (Feb. 27, home) in Week 8. 3. Shelby Valley (9-5): The Wildcats bounced back to beat Prestonsburg following a loss to East Ridge. Kaden Robinson is averaging a team-high 18.3 points per game for the Wildcats. Shelby Valley has upcoming games scheduled versus Paintsville (Feb. 23, home), Phelps (Feb. 25, away) and Pikeville (Feb. 27, away). 4. Belfry (8-7): The Pirates reeled off three straight wins in Week 7, defeating district rival Pike County Central, Martin County and Magoffin County. Betsy Layne (7-5): Much-improved Betsy Layne has secured the 58th District's number one seed. The Bobcats upended host Lawrence County 80-65 in Week 7. Betsy Layne has put together three straight wins. The Bobcats are due to face Pike County Central (Feb. 24) and Breathitt County (Feb. 27) in Week 8. 6. Martin County (5-8): Currently on a three-game losing skid, reigning 15th Region champion Martin County dropped games to Belfry and Wolfe County in Week 7. Martin County is due to host Magoffin County (Feb. 22) and Johnson Central (Feb. 27) for 57th District games in Week 8. 7. Paintsville (5-5): The Tigers haven't played since February 9. Paintsville has upcoming games scheduled versus Shelby Valley (Feb. 23, away), Russell (Feb. 25, home) and Magoffin County (Feb. 27, away). 8. East Ridge (7-7): The Warriors pulled away to defeat Shelby Valley 55-38 in Week 7. East Ridge has claimed back-to-back wins after dropping six of seven games. The Warriors have upcoming games scheduled versus Phelps (Feb. 23, home) and Belfry (Feb. 26, away). 9. Pike County Central (9-6): In Week 7, Pike County Central knocked off Ligon COGO and Whitley County but suffered a five-point loss to district rival Belfry. The Hawks have home games scheduled versus Phelps (Feb. 22), Betsy Layne (Feb. 24), Rose Hill Christian (Feb. 26) and Floyd Central (Feb. 27) in Week 8. 10. Magoffin County (7-7): The Hornets suffered a 10-point loss to Belfry in overtime in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic on Saturday, Feb. 20. Magoffin County has upcoming games scheduled against Martin County (Feb. 22, away), Perry County Central (Feb. 24, home), Floyd Central (Feb. 25, away) and Paintsville (Feb. 27, home). 11. Lawrence County (6-5): The Bulldogs dropped a key 58th District game to Betsy Layne. Lawrence County is due to meet Floyd Central (Feb. 22, home), Prestonsburg (Feb. 23, home), Belfry (Feb. 25, home) and Bath County (Feb. 26, away) in Week 8.. 12. Prestonsburg (5-7): The Blackcats claimed a 58th District win over Floyd Central prior to falling to Shelby Valley in the Belfry-hosted Mountain Schoolboy Classic on Saturday, Feb. 20. Prestonsburg is poised to face Lawrence County (Feb. 23), Johnson Central (Feb. 24), Jenkins (Feb. 25), Knox Central (Feb. 26) and Buckhorn (Feb. 27) in a five-game stretch on the road. 13. Floyd Central (4-8): The Jaguars slipped back into the loss column after suffering a 58th District setback to Prestonsburg. Floyd Central is slated to play Buckhorn (Feb. 21, home), Lawrence County (Feb. 22, away), June Buchanan (Feb. 24, away), Magoffin County (Feb. 25, home) and Pike County Central (Feb. 27, away) in Week 8. 14. Phelps (1-10): The Hornets are slated to face Pike County Central (Feb. 22, away), East Ridge (Feb. 23, away) and Shelby Valley (Feb. 25, home) in Week 8. 15. Jenkins (1-4): The Cavaliers are scheduled to meet Pikeville (Feb. 24, away) and Prestonsburg (Feb. 25, home) in Week 8.

1. Lyon County (14-1): The Lyons suffered a loss to Owensboro Catholic in Week 6. But Lyon County remains the frontrunner in the 2nd Region. One of the top scorers in the state, freshman Travis Perry is averaging 27.4 points per game for the Lyons. Lyon County is slated to play Marshall County (Feb. 19, away) and Daviess County (Feb. 20 at Owensboro Sportscenter) in Week 7. 2. Webster County (14-3): The Trojans claimed back-to-back wins in Week 6, defeating Dawson Springs and Whitesville Trinity. Destin Allen (17.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg) and Hunter McNaughton (14.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg) combine to pace the Trojans. Webster County has games scheduled against Henderson County (Feb. 18, away) and Greenwood (Feb. 20 at Ohio County) in Week 7. 3. Madisonville-North Hopkins (5-3): The Maroons haven't been on the court for a game since suffering a loss to University Heights on February 6. Madisonville-North Hopkins has upcoming games scheduled versus Union County (Feb. 16, home), Dawson Springs (Feb. 18, home) and Murray (Feb. 20 at Marshall County). 4. University Heights (4-6): The Blazers pulled away to beat Marshall County 75-61 in Week 6. University Heights has won three of its last four games. The Blazers have upcoming games scheduled versus Union County (Feb. 19, home) and Crittenden County (Feb. 20, away). 5. Hopkinsville (2-2): The Tigers haven't played since January 26. However, Hopkinsville is scheduled to host Barren County (Feb. 19) and Christian County (Feb. 20) for upcoming home games. 6. Henderson County (6-7): Returning to the win column, Henderson County defeated Evansville Bosse (Ind.) 63-58 in Week 6. The Colonels halted a five-game losing skid with the win. Henderson County has upcoming games scheduled against Male (Feb. 15, away) and Webster County (Feb. 18, home). 7. Union County (9-6): The Braves are due back on the floor after being out of action in Week 6. Union County has won five of its last seven games. The Braves are scheduled to visit Madisonville-North Hopkins (Feb. 16), University Heights (Feb. 19) and Whitesville Trinity (Feb. 20) in Week 7. 8. Christian County (0-4): The Colonels have been sidelined but are preparing to return to the court. Christian County is scheduled to visit Hopkinsville for its next game on Saturday, Feb. 20. 9. Crittenden County (6-4): The Rockets were playing well prior to being sidelined earlier in the month. Crittenden County has won five of its last six games. The Rockets are scheduled to host Trigg County (Feb. 19, home) and University Heights (Feb. 20, home) in Week 7. 10. Caldwell County (3-10): The Tigers were sidelined throughout Week 6. Caldwell County has upcoming games scheduled against Dawson Springs (Feb. 15, away) and Hopkins County Central (Feb. 19, home). 11. Trigg County (4-5): The Wildcats have been out of action since late-January. Trigg County has upcoming games scheduled versus Livingston Central (Feb. 15, away), St. Mary (Feb. 16, home), Crittenden County (Feb. 19, away) and Fulton City (Feb. 20, away). 12. Livingston Central (2-11): The Cardinals did not play in Week 6. Dawson Springs (0-6): The Panthers dropped a game to Webster County in Week 6. 1. Johnson Central (11-1): Current 15th Region frontrunner Johnson Central is on an eight-game winning streak. The Golden Eagles claimed wins over crosstown rival Paintsville and Shelby Valley in Week 6. Johnson Central is shooting nearly 40 percent from 3-point range. Seniors Isaiah May (16.8 ppg), Cory VanHoose (16.2 ppg) and John King (10.8 ppg) continue to lead the Golden Eagles. Johnson Central is set to face Martin County (Feb. 18 away), Breathitt County (Feb. 19, home) and Phelps (Feb. 20 at Belfry) in Week 7. 2. Pikeville (7-4): The Panthers suffered a two-point loss to 16th Region member Boyd County in Week 6. Junior Rylee Samons picked up a scholarship offer from Morehead State University and is averaging 23.4 points per game for the Panthers. Pikeville is scheduled to meet Magoffin County in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic at Belfry High school on Saturday, Feb. 20. 3. Shelby Valley (8-4): The Wildcats pulled away to defeat Magoffin County before suffering a loss to Johnson Central in Week 6. Kaden Robinson (18.9 ppg) and Keian Worrix (16.2 ppg) are combining to average over 35 points per game for the Wildcats. Shelby Valley is poised to face Jenkins (Feb. 16, away), East Ridge (Feb. 18, away) and Prestonsburg (Feb. 20 at Belfry) in Week 7. 4. Martin County (5-6): The Cardinals pulled away to defeat 14th Region title contender Knott County Central 72-57 prior to falling to Magoffin County in Week 6. Paintsville (5-5): The Tigers dropped a 57th District game to crosstown rival Johnson Central in Week 6. Paintsville is scheduled to meet Ashland Blazer (Feb. 16, home), Magoffin County (Feb. 19, away) and Belfry (Feb. 20, away) in Week 7. 6. Betsy Layne (6-5): The Bobcats claimed back-to-back wins in Week 6, beating East Ridge and Pike County Central. Senior guard Jordan Frazier poured in 43 points as Betsy Layne toppled Pike County Central 90-65. Betsy Layne is slated to visit Floyd Central (Feb. 15), Hazard (Feb. 16) and Lawrence County (Feb. 20) in Week 7. 7. East Ridge (6-7): Following a loss to Betsy Layne, East Ridge bounced back to defeat Pike County Central 80-76 in Week 6. The Warriors are scheduled to host Shelby Valley for a 59th District game on Thursday, Feb. 18. 8. Belfry (5-7): The Pirates topped Prestonsburg prior to falling to reigning 14th Region champion Hazard in Week 6. Belfry has upcoming games scheduled versus Pike County Central (Feb. 16, away), Phelps (Feb. 17, home), Martin County (Feb. 19, home) and Paintsville (Feb. 20, home). 9. Magoffin County (7-6): The Hornets split a pair of games in Week 6, falling to Shelby Valley before edging 57th District counterpart Martin County 66-64. Magoffin County is due to face Morgan County (Feb. 17, away), Paintsville (Feb. 19, home) and Pikeville (Feb. 20 at Belfry) during the week ahead. 10. Lawrence County (6-3): The Bulldogs claimed a pair of wins in Week 6, defeating Fairview and 58th District rival Floyd Central. Lawrence County has won three of its last four games. The Bulldogs are scheduled to face Greenup County (Feb. 15, away), Prestonsburg (Feb. 18, home) and Betsy Layne (Feb. 20, home) in the week ahead. 11. Pike County Central (7-5): The Hawks compiled a 1-3 record in Week 6. After claiming a win over Cordia, Pike County Central dropped games to Betsy Layne, East Ridge and Knott County Central. Pike County Central is slated to meet Belfry (Feb. 16, home), Ligon (Feb. 17, home), Perry County Central (Feb. 19, away) and Whitley County (Feb. 20 at South Laurel) in Week 7. 12. Phelps (1-10): The Hornets came up short as visiting Floyd Central held on to win 74-73 in overtime on Saturday, Feb. 13. Phelps has upcoming games scheduled versus Martin County (Feb. 16, home), Belfry (Feb. 17, away) and Johnson Central (Feb. 20 at Belfry). 15. Jenkins (1-4): Following a lengthy layoff, Jenkins dropped a game to former 14th Region rival June Buchanan on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The Cavaliers are scheduled to host Shelby Valley (Feb. 16), Letcher County Central (Feb. 18) and Lynn Camp (Feb. 20) in upcoming games.

1. Lyon County (14-0): Continuing to win in Week 5, Lyon County defeated Caldwell County, Livingston Central, Ballard Memorial and Calloway County. Freshman guard Travis Perry is averaging 28.4 points per game for the Lyons. Through 14 games, Perry has scored 398 points. As a team, Lyon County is shooting over 50 percent from the field. The Lyons are poised to take the floor for games against Owensboro Catholic (Feb. 8, away) and Union County (Feb. 9, home) in Week 6. 2. Webster County (12-3): After claiming back-to-back wins over Union County and Henderson County, Webster County dropped a game to 3rd Region title contender Owensboro Catholic in Week 5. The Trojans have games on tap against Dawson Springs (Feb. 8, away), University Heights (Feb. 11, away) and Whitesville Trinity (Feb. 13, home). 3. Johnson Central is 9-1 through its first 10 games in the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season. Seniors Cory VanHoose (17.2 ppg), Isaiah May (16.7 ppg) and John King (11.4 ppg) pace the Golden Eagles. As a team, Johnson Central is shooting 39.5 percent (68-of-172) from 3-point range. Currently, Sal Dean, Tyler Chaffin and newcomer Bol Kuir rank as the Pirates' top three scorers. Belfry is slated to face Prestonsburg (Feb. 8, home) and Russell (Feb. 12, away) in Week 6. 8. Betsy Layne (4-5): After notching back-to-back 58th District wins over Floyd Central and Prestonsburg, Betsy Layne lost to Knox Central in the WYMT Mountain Classic. Magoffin County (6-5): The Hornets edged Prestonsburg 62-60 before dropping back-to-back games to 57th District rivals Johnson Central and Paintsville. Facing another challenging stretch, Magoffin County is due to meet Shelby Valley (Feb. 8, home), Perry County Central (Feb. 10, away) and Martin County (Feb. 13, home). 12. Prestonsburg (4-5): Showing improvement, Prestonsburg has won three of its last four games. The Blackcats pulled away to beat 58th District rival Floyd Central 55-41 on the Jaguars' home floor on Saturday, Feb. 6. Prestonsburg is preparing to visit Belfry (Feb. 8), Johnson Central (Feb. 10) and Betsy Layne (Feb. 13) for away games. 13. Floyd Central (2-6): The Jaguars dropped a 58th District game to Prestonsburg, slipping back into the loss column after defeating Menifee County in late-January. Morgan County (Feb. 8, away), Lawrence County (Feb. 11, home) and Phelps (Feb. 13, away) are the Jaguars' scheduled opponents for Week 6. 14. Phelps (1-9): The Hornets suffered a lopsided loss to Prestonsburg in Week 5. Phelps has dropped back-to-back games. 1. Lyon County (10-0): Remaining the 2nd Region frontrunner, Lyon County claimed wins over Livingston Central, Trigg County and Henderson County in Week 4. Freshman Travis Perry is averaging 28.3 points per game for the Lyons. Along with Perry, Lyon County features Jackson Shoulders (15.7 ppg), Gunnar Bingham (10.2 ppg), Brady Shoulders (9.3 ppg) and Nick Whalin (8.2 ppg). The Lyons are scheduled to host Caldwell County (Feb. 2), Ballard Memorial (Feb. 6) and Apollo (Feb. 6) in Week 5. Johnson Central has additional upcoming games scheduled versus Martin County (Jan 21, away), East Ridge (Jan. 23, home) and Paris (Jan. 23, Coach Lake Kelly Classic at Fleming County). 2. Pikeville (3-1): Determined Pikeville edged rival Shelby Valley 41-40 in the 15th Region All "A" Classic title game. In addition to defeating Shelby Valley, Pikeville knocked off Betsy Layne and East Ridge during the region small-school tournament. Rylee Samons Zac Lockhart, Nick Robinson, Lukas Manns and Laithan Hall are combining to power Pikeville. The Panthers are scheduled to visit Shelby Valley for a key 59th District boys' basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Belfry (4-1): One of the most improved boys' high school basketball teams in Eastern Kentucky, Belfry knocked off 14th Region frontrunner Knott County Central during Week 2. Shelby Valley (4-1): The Wildcats notched wins over Prestonsburg and Paintsville during the 15th Region All "A" Classic before falling to Pikeville in the title game. Kaden Robinson (17.0 ppg), Keian Worrix (16.8 ppg) and Zack Johnson (11.2 ppg) form one of the top boys' basketball trios in the 15th Region. Paintsville (2-2): The Tigers edged Martin County 65-64 in an opening round matchup prior to falling to Shelby Valley in the 15th Region All "A" Classic Semifinals. Junior Colby Fugate is averaging nearly 25 points per game for the Tigers. Along with Fugate, senior Braxton Tharp is averaging 14 points points per game for Paintsville. Lawrence County (3-1): The 2019-20 15th Region Runner-up, Lawrence County shook off a loss to Johnson Central and cruised past Rose Hill Christian. A balanced Lawrence County scoring attack features Trenton Adkins (21.2 ppg), Cody Maynard (17.2 ppg), Kaden Gillispie (13.2 ppg) and Baden Gillispie (11.2 ppg). The Bulldogs have home games scheduled against Boyd County (Jan. 19) and Betsy Layne (Jan. 21) in Week 3. Lawrence County is slated to face East Carter in the Boyd County Roundball Classic on Saturday, Jan. 23. 7. Betsy Layne (2-3): After suffering a heartbreaking two-point loss in overtime to eventual champion Pikeville in the 15th Region All "A" Classic, Betsy Layne bounced back to defeat Phelps. Jordan Frazier (20.4 ppg), Brady Robinson (19.6 ppg) and Chase Mims (13.0 ppg) form a productive trio for the Bobcats. Heading into Week 3, Betsy Layne is set to visit Martin County (Jan. 18) and Lawrence County (Jan. 21). 8. Pike County Central (2-1): Following a loss to Pulaski County on a neutral court five days earlier, Pike County Central upended Martin County on the road. Jaylan Rigdon and Josh Du Toit are combining to average nearly 32 points per game for the Hawks. Pike County Central is scheduled to welcome in Wellspring (Jan. 18), White Academy, Tenn. (Jan. 22) and Mountain Mission, Va. (Jan. 23) for home games in Week 3. The Hawks are slated to host the Codell Construction Battle of the Border Jan. 22-23. 9. Martin County (1-4): Martin County nearly topped Paintsville in the 15th Region All "A" Classic then dropped another close game to Pike County Central. 1. Lyon County (3-0): The Lyons are off to a 3-0 start in the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season after notching wins over Crittenden County, Community Christian (Paducah) and Webster County. The trio of Travis Perry (Fr., 23.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg), Brady Shoulders (Fr., 14.0 ppg) and Jackson Shoulders (Jr., 10.0 ppg. 9.0 rpg) were each averaging double figures in scoring through the Lyons' first two games. Lyon County is scheduled to face University Heights in the first round of the 2nd Region All "A" Classic on Tuesday, Jan. 12. 2. 15th Region Boys' Basketball Preview 1. Pikeville (17-12): After reaching the 2019-20 15th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals, Pikeville has reloaded. Junior forward Rylee Samons (16.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg) is back to lead the Panthers. But Samons isn't alone. Along with Samons, Pikeville, under the direction of head coach Elisha Justice, returns juniors Nick Robinson (10.3 ppg) and Laithan Hall (9.1 ppg). The Panthers added junior forward Lukas Manns (10.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg), a transfer from Betsy Layne, over the offseason. 2. Johnson Central (17-12): After missing out on advancing to the 15th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament, perennial title contender Johnson Central returns all five starters. The senior duo of Isaiah May (G, 20.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg) and Cory VanHoose (F/G, 18.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg) will lead the Golden Eagles, again. May, VanHoose, additional seniors John King (9.3 ppg, 5.0) and Bryson Hackney (4.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg) and junior Grant Rice (4.9 ppg) make up Johnson Central's starting five. Juniors Ryleh McKenzie (G) and Conner Lemaster (F) are the top reserves back for the Golden Eagles. 3. Paintsville (15-14): Former state champion Paintsville lost top rebounder Nick Keeton (15.4 ppg, 12.3 rpg) to graduation but returns leading scorer Colby Fugate (22.1 ppg, 5.8 rpg), a junior. In addition to Fugate, senior Braxton Tharp (10.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg), junior Baron Ratliff (4.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg) and another senior Ryan Gibson (2.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg), return for the Tigers. Paintsville, which finished runner-up to Martin County in the 57th District last season, added senior Mason Lovely (Magoffin County) through a transfer over the offseason. 4. Martin County (22-12): Following the departure of senior center Trey James to Rick Pitino-coached Iona, reigning 15th Region champion Martin County dropped from its spot in the 15th Region. But Martin County will still look to repeat as 15th Region champion. Junior guard Brady Dingess (16.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg) is the top player back for the Cardinals. Along with Dingess, Martin County returns senior guard Jordan Dalton (6.7 ppg) and sophomore forward Parker Davis. During the offseason, Martin County added junior guard Jacob Butcher, a transfer from Johnson Central. 5. Magoffin County (15-15): After finishing 15-15 in back-to-back seasons, experienced Magoffin County has four of its top six scorers back. Sophomore guard Aden Barnett (19.2 ppg), senior guard Isaiah Salyer (14.7 ppg) and freshman guard Grayson Whitaker (10.6 ppg) form one of the most talented boys' high school basketball trios in Eastern Kentucky. The Hornets lost two starters - Randy Bailey (graduation) and Mason Lovey (transfer). Magoffin County added a player over the offseason when sophomore center Ben Lafferty transferred from Johnson Central. 6. Shelby Valley (25-8): Rodney Rowe is back on the Shelby Valley bench, replacing Jim Hicks as the Wildcats' head coach. Shelby Valley lost 15th Region Player of the Year Cody Potter (24.6 ppg, 9.9 rpg) to graduation but return several experienced players. Seniors Kaden Robinson (12.8 ppg), Keian Worrix (7.7 ppg) and Zack Johnson (4.8 ppg) will provide leadership for the Wildcats. Fresh off an exceptional football season, freshman Russ Osborne will contribute on the hardwood after making an impact as an eighth grader during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. 7. Lawrence County (22-12): The 2019-20 15th Region runner-up, Lawrence County lost leading scorer Tyler Maynard (20.6) to graduation. Still, Lawrence County returns three of its top five scorers, two of whom averaged double figures during the 2019-20 season. Junior point guard Cody Maynard (15.7 ppg), junior guard/forward Trenton Adkins (10.9 ppg) and senior guard Baden Gillispie (8.1 ppg) form a talented trip for reigning 58th District champion Lawrence County. 8. Belfry (10-19): The 2019-20 60th District runner-up, Belfry has welcomed back four of its top six scorers and added a new force inside. Sophomore guard Sal Dean (16.9 ppg) and senior guard Tyler Chaffin (11.2 ppg) are back after ranking as the Pirates' top two scorers during the 2019-20 season. Brett Coleman (9.3 ppg) and Caleb Spears (4.8 ppg) are back for Belfry as well. During the offseason, Belfry added seven-footer Bol Kuir, a player who is expected to thrive during the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season. 9. East Ridge (10-16): After losing to Pikeville in overtime during the 59th District Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals, East Ridge is a team on the rise. East Ridge returns five of its top six scorers from the 2019-20 season. Senior forward Eli Rose (12 ppg), the team's leading scorer in the 2019-20 season, returns. Betsy Layne (17-12): Four of five starters are due back for the Bobcats. Senior Jordan Frazier (19.4 ppg), juniors Brady Robinson (13.4 ppg) and Chase Mims (10.8 ppg) and sophomore Andrew Kidd (6.7 ppg) all return for Betsy Layne, which will be under the direction of new head coach Derrick Newsome. Additional experienced players back for the Bobcats include junior Jake Rainey and senior Shawn Dee Howell. Manns started for Betsy Layne prior to transferring to Pikeville. 11. Pike County Central (8-21): New head coach Robert Amis is set to guide Pike County Central. Most recently, Amis guided Greenup County in the neighboring 16th Region. Amis replaced Ryan Whitaker on the Hawks' bench. Pike County Central lost leading scorer and rebounder Jacob Young (14.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg) to graduation. Senior guard Bryce Adkins (12.3 ppg) is the top player due back for the Hawks from the 2019-20 season. Pike County Central has not filed a roster with the KHSAA yet. 12. Phelps (21-11): The Hornets must replace standout Trey Francis (19.3 ppg, 13.2 rpg), who was lost to graduation. The reigning 60th District champion, Phelps returns senior forward/guard Dominick Francis (13.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg). In addition to Dominick Francis, Phelps returns senior forward Seth Mayhorn (4.6 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and junior forward Landon Dotson (4.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg). 13. Prestonsburg (9-19): The Blackcats broke through during the 2019-20 season, knocking off Betsy Layne to advance to the 15th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Senior Will Gullett (7.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg) and sophomore Ryan Rose (7.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg) are back to lead Prestonsburg inside. Along with Gullett and Rose, senior guard Grant Justice (6.1 ppg) returns for the Blackcats. 14. Floyd Central (7-22): After missing out on advancing to the region tournament for the first time, Floyd Central will look to continue to improve. However, Floyd Central lost its top three scorers to graduation. Sophomores Ronnie Samons (7.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg) and Braden Moore (6.3 ppg) are back to lead the Jaguars. 15. Jenkins (1-23): A former 14th Region member Jenkins must replace its top four scorers from the 2019-20 season. Jenkins defeated June Buchanan for its only win in the 2019-20 campaign. Junior forward/guard Austin Johnson (6.0 ppg) is the top player back for the Cavaliers. *Piarist School (0-1): Longtime 15th Region member Piarist School doesn't have a schedule in place for the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season at this time. 15th Region's Top 10 Players 1. 2nd Region Boys Basketball Preview 1. Lyon County (23-10): Talent-heavy Lyon County is poised to push for the 2nd Region boys' basketball championship. One of he top players in the state, high scoring freshman guard Travis Perry (26.6 ppg) is back to lead 2nd Region title contender Lyon County. Rejuvenated Lyon County is the reigning 5th District champion and reached the 2019-20 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals. In addition to Perry, Lyon County returns juniors Jackson Shoulders (16.2 ppg, 11.2 rpg), Gunnar Bingham (9.0 ppg) and Nick Whalin (7.1 ppg) and freshman Brady Shoulders (4.0 ppg). Jackson Shoulders averaged a double-double throughout the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. 2. University Heights Academy (15-14): After finishing as the 2019-20 8th District runner-up and making an appearance in the 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament, University Heights Academy returns four starters. Senior guard KJ Crump is back to lead the Blazers. Along with Crump, senior guards DJ Quarles, Amani McGee and Will Bryan return for tradition-rich University Heights Academy. Each of UHA's four returning starters averaged double figures in scoring during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. Adding to UHA's attack, freshman Gavin Grubbs is a talented newcomer. 3. Christian County (13-19): Following an appearance in the 2019-20 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals, Christian County is carrying momentum over into its latest campaign. Christian County lost its top two scorers to graduation. Still, junior forward/guard Olajuwon White (10.0 ppg, 6.6 rpg), junior guard Qua Chambers (8.4 ppg) and sophomore guard Bubba Leavell (6.2 ppg) form a productive trio for the Colonels. White ranked as the Colonels' top rebounder during the 2019-20 season. 4. Henderson County (19-13): The Henderson County Colonels shouldn't be overlooked. Henderson County's roster features seniors Noah Curry (11.0 ppg, 5.2 rpg), Lance Skinner (5.6 ppg), Xavier Bugg (5.3 ppg) and Eli Wilkes, among others. Curry was the Colonels' second-leading scorer and top rebounder as a junior. Henderson County finished as the 2019-20 6th District runner-up then fell to Madisonville-North Hopkins in the 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. 5. Madisonville-North Hopkins (31-3): Reigning 2nd Region champion Madisonville-North Hopkins lost all five starters to graduation. Sixth man Zach Tow (4.0 ppg) is back for the Maroons. Despite the hard hit from graduation, Madisonville-North Hopkins will feature multiple talented players. Senior guard Kale Gaither, junior center Brytton Walker and sophomore forward Destin Cheirs will help to lead the Maroons. Gaither is a transfer from Union County. As a junior, Gaither averaged 22.6 points and six rebounds per game for the Braves. 6. Hopkinsville (14-17): The Tigers lost leading scorer Don Victor (19.1 ppg) to graduation but several experienced players are back. Hopkinsville's top returnees include senior guard Alijah Watts, senior forwards Reece Jesse and Jamarcus Burks, junior forward KC Cabiness, senior guard Arthur McKnight and sophomore guard Daisjaun Mercer. Jesse and McKnight averaged over eight points per game apiece for Hopkinsville last season. 7. Webster County (27-6): The Trojans lost leading scorer Tyler Camplin (17.4 ppg) to graduation. But Webster County returns second-leading scorer and top rebounder Destin Allen (13.0 ppg, 6.4 rpg), a senior forward, as well as senior center Hunter McNaughton (12.2 ppg) and junior guard Aaron Harmon (4.2 ppg). Webster County is the reigning 6th District champion. The Trojans finished runner-up to Madisonville-North Hopkins in the 2019-20 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. 8. Crittenden County (16-17): Three players that averaged 10-plus points per game last season are back for the Rockets. Seniors Gabe Mott (16.0 ppg), Preston Turley (14.3 ppg) and Tyler Boone (10.1 ppg) are back for Crittenden County, which finished runner-up to Lyon County in the 2019-20 5th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 9. Trigg County (11-19): An experienced group is back for the Wildcats. Trigg County's cast of returning players includes senior guard Kion Thompson (10.6 ppg), freshman guard Jhaden Vaughn (9.5 ppg), junior guard Kendric Adams (8.9 ppg) and junior forward Khyran Vaughn (8.2 ppg). Trigg County suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss to Crittenden County in the 2019-20 5th District Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals. 10. Caldwell County (16-16): Caldwell County lost four of its top five scorers to graduation. However, Caldwell County returns second-leading scorer Tripp Branch (12.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg). Poised to take on a larger role for the Tigers, junior guard Jabrion Spikes returns as well. Caldwell County finished as the 2019-20 7th District runner-up. 11. Union County (9-21): Union County will be among the 2nd Region teams looking to show improvement early in the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season. Senior Kaleb Kanipe (11.8 ppg, 10.0 rpg) is the top player back for the Braves after averaging a double-double. In addition to Kanipe, sophomore guard/forward Izaiah Manuel (9.8 ppg) is back for the Braves. 12. Dawson Springs (13-18): Three starters are back for the Panthers. Senior guard Landon Pace (14 ppg, 6.8 rpg) is set to lead Dawson Springs. But Pace isn't alone as senior forward Dylan Dawson (10.8 ppg. 7.8 rpg) averaged double figures in scoring as well and returns. Dawson Springs will also feature senior guard Logan McKnight and junior guard Dilyn Skinner. 13. Hopkins County Central (8-21): Hopkins County Central lost its top three scorers to graduation. Sophomore guard Marcus Eaves (8.3 ppg) is the top player back for the Storm. Another player with experience, junior guard Trevor Weldon (4.8 ppg), also returns. 14. Livingston Central (3-28): With its top two scorers from the 2019-20 season back, Livingston Central is expected to be improved. Senior guards Max Downey (14.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and John Barnes (10.0 ppg) are back for the Cardinals. Downey led Livingston Central in both scoring and rebounding as a junior. *Fort Campbell (9-21): Eighth District member Fort Campbell showed improvement last season, notching its most wins since the 2007-08 campaign. The 2019-20 5th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament is set to tip off at Taylor County High School in Campbellsville. The field for the 2019-20 5th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament is made up of the following teams: Bardstown, Campbellsville, Elizabethtown, Hart County, John Hardin, LaRue County, Marion County and Nelson County. Bardstown enters the region tournament as the 19th District champion. The Tigers are 23-8. Campbellsville finished runner-up in the 20th District. The Tigers are 15-14. Elizabethtown finished runner-up in the 17th District. The Panthers are 24-3 and boast the second-best region among 5th Region boys' basketball teams. Hart County finished runner-up in the 18th District. The Raiders are 14-14. John Hardin captured the 17th District title. The Bulldogs are 29-3 and enter the region tournament as the favorite. LaRue County won the 18th District. The Hawks are 20-8. Marion County, a contender for the 5th Region title, claimed the 20th District title. The Knights are 22-7. Nelson County finished runner-up in the 19th District. The Cardinals are 12-20. John Hardin, which features player of the year Alex Matthews (17.5 ppg, 10.7 rpg), is the reigning 5th Region champion. Elizabethtown (23-2): The Panthers are riding a five-game winning streak into the postseason. After defeating both LaRue County and Bullitt East during the final week of the regular-season, Elizabethtown will face Central Hardin in the semifinals of the 17th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 3. Marion County (20-7): The Knights are on an eight-game winning streak after knocking off East Jessamine and 5th Region frontrunner John Hardin during the final week of the regular-season. Marion County is slated to face Taylor County in the semifinals of the 20th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 4. Central Hardin is slated to face Elizabethtown in the semifinals of the 17th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 7. Campbellsville (14-13): The Eagles carried a five-game winning streak out of the regular-season after claiming victories over Green County and Nelson County. One of the state's top players, Alex Matthews is averaging a double-double of 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs. Matthews has been named the 5th Region Player of the Year. 2. Elizabethtown (21-2): Remaining in the win column, Elizabethtown outlasted Taylor County in overtime and pulled away to beat Bardstown convincingly. Jaquais Franklin is averaging a team-high 21.7 points er game for the Panthers. 3. Bardstown (19-8): In a tough late-season stretch, Bardstown dropped games to both John Hardin and Elizabethtown. The Tigers pushed John Hardin but suffered a double digit loss to Elizabethtown in another matchup. JJ Traynor is averaging 19.7 points and 11.1 rebounds per game for the Tigers. 4. LaRue County (18-6): The Hawks recorded convincing wins over Nelson County and Taylor County. LaRue County has won 11 of its last 13 games. Mark Goode scored his 2,000th point for the Hawks in the victory over Nelson County. Goode is averaging 23.3 points per game for the LaRue County boys' basketball team. 5. The Bulldogs beat Bowling Green but suffered a loss to Henry Clay on a neutral floor at Lafayette High School. Alex Mathews is averaging a double-double of 23.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs. 2. Elizabethtown (19-2): Following a three-point loss to John Hardin, Elizabethtown rolled past Fort Knox 92-55. Elizabethtown has won three of its last four games. Jaquais Franklin is averaging 20.9 points per game for the Panthers. 3. Bardstown (19-6): The Tigers are on a 13-game winning streak. Bardstown claimed wins over Bethlehem, Nelson County and Greenwood during the first full week in February. One of the top players in the region, JJ Traynor is averaging a double-double of 19.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game for the Tigers. 4. LaRue County (16-6): The Hawks suffered a setback to Oldham County before defeating North Hardin. LaRue County has won nine of its last 11 games. Central Hardin (10-13): The Bruins posted wins over Fort Knox and Barren County to push a winning streak to three games.
