Isn’t this group of Holmes Sophomores the players that won back to back middle school championships? That squad was really good. Curious if they are contributing to this seasons wins. If Nevels keeps that core group together, the Dawgs may be great next year too.

It is that bunch. And on a team of 30-40 or so, I'd imagine the ones still there are contributing.

It took some time for him to turn things around at Holmes but Coach Nevels is definitely doing it the right way. Two years in a row they’ve been the one seed going into the playoffs.

@theguru said it best a few weeks back when he said something along the lines of NKY football is better when Holmes is good.

I would agree with @theguru on that...happy for Coach Nevels, staff, and kids!

    Prep,

They are competitive except at the top of 5A.  Many in that boat!

Greenwood has some good players and I think they are well coached,

but in the fistic with BG and South Warren - that is tough sledding!

All truth right there...that is indeed a very tough district!

I find it interesting that BluegrassPreps has the same 8 teams that are in the top 8 of CalPreps.com, just in different orders.

BGP 9 and 10 is where it gets whacky. Oldham is 15th in Cal and Fern Creek is 16th.

    So I think you could consider 9 Dixie Heights (3-3), 10 Ryle (3-3), 11 Dunbar (3-1), 12 Simon Kenton (3-3), 13 Henderson (3-1), 14 PRP (2-2).

Dixie Heights (2 in Beechwood and Simon Kenton) and Ryle (2 in Dixie Heights and Campbell County) both have better wins than Fern Creek's best/only win.

CalPreps says Dunbar's win over Henry Clay is comparable to Fern Creek beating Bullitt East, but CalPreps says Lexington Christian (Dunbar's loss) is better than Fern Creek's losses to Oldham and Ballard ... when Fern Creek scored a whopping 1 combined TD.

Fern Creek lost by 30 and went up?!

"Fern Creek lost by 30 and went up?!"

    My point exactly.

Who should be ranked ahead of them?

@Nathaniel Bryan answered perfectly for me!

  6. People are forgetting, this was a 5 hour bus ride for the away team...and a non traditional style of offense to prepare for. To say that you wouldn't put them above male/manual/etc is laughable. Douglass has shown themselves to be who we thought they were. North's defense may be overall stronger than last year. The offense catching up will definitely be the factor in their testing of longevity in the post season this year.
