    USA Today Article

There's some more info about the game. Apparently the coach gave in to the team and crowd begging him to run up the score and go for 100 points. Threw a TD pass with time basically over to chase the points. I'd like to think there is some discussion going on about what sportsmanship is.

I watched the video on Social Media of the last two plays.  Disgusting.  The final play was a long pass.  Just Disgusting is all I can say.

Actually, the all-time series between Boyle County and Corbin is tied at 4 games to 4.   The teams first met in 1977 in the regional championship game at Boyle with Corbin winning 37-15.  They again met in the regional championship in 1982 at Corbin.  Corbin won again 28-13.  In 1992 Corbin won at home with a 10-7 victory in a 1st round playoff game.  They met again in the 1st round in 1994, with Boyle winning 14-7 at home.  The next meeting wasn’t until 2010 in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic at Corbin, which Boyle won 42-10.  In the 2017 state championship game Boyle won 40-21.  In 2018, Boyle traveled to Corbin in the state semi-finals and Corbin blanked the Rebels 21-0.  In 2022 Boyle prevailed 32-26 in the state championship game.  It has been a great series between two very proud programs.

I was a Freshman at Boyle during the first meeting in '77.  It was close at half early 3rd Quarter then Corbin just took control of the game with their size and strength.  One of the strongest teams I've ever seen physically.  I know the '82 team is personal for you Paul Dean.  That game Corbin just ran and ran the ball and controlled the clock.  Converted a lot of 3rd Downs as I recall and kept Mike Harmon for Boyle bottled up on the ground.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Dawson looks really good in his Hudl highlights, great KY HS athlete with a nice arm. If I’m playing them, I’m trying to get him in the run fit and make him tackle early and often at corner; if nothing else I’m just trying to wear him down for the 2nd half on the other side of the ball. You really don't see a QB starting both ways too much anymore.

True. Ironically the last two Boyle teams both had the QB both ways. Gillis and Dawson.

Playing 4 teams in higher classes has certainly helped CovCath's RPI.

However, strength of schedule is not factored into the RPI.

To play along, the strength of schedule question gets tricky. CovCath hasn't played a non-district team with a really low ranking as both Boyle and Corbin have.

Using the CalPreps ranking for each non-district team played to date, CovCath has played teams currently ranked 7, 20, 25, 31, and 43 in the state for an average of 25.2.

Boyle has currently played teams ranked 9, 12, 19, 23, and 168 for an average of 46.2 (I took the Indiana team's CalPrep ranking and used where they would be ranked in Kentucky to determine their rank).

Corbin has played teams ranked 5, 23, 34, 85, 90, and 155 for an average of 65.3 (Again, I took the Ohio team's CalPrep ranking and used where they would be ranked in Kentucky to determine their rank.)

From that perspective, an argument could be made that CovCath has played the hardest schedule to date among the three.

So Boyle County’s Achilles Heel was having to play cross town rival Danville?

If you told me 25 plus years ago that Beechwood would be playing Danville one of the greatest powerhouses in Ky High School football history in the 1st round I would have laughed at you. Danville was one of the greatest teams in the 80’s and 90’s when I started following Ky High school football. I’m sure their tradition goes back farther than that. I  was a junior in 1993 when Prestonsburg ended their winning streak in the playoffs. Was it 40 plus games?

42 straight. Most who followed Danville would swear that ‘93 team was the best of the run.

I think most people are judging the Boyle secondary on the two games against LCA and Lex Cath. First of all these are probably the two best QB's in the state as far as throwing the ball. Boyle did not have Demauriah Brown in the game against LCA which made a huge difference. Against Lex Cath the secondary did not play well until the second half and still held a very good offense to 21 pts.  Boyle has substituted  freely in the other games to give some of their starters a breather. I think going into the playoffs the secondary will be a great asset to an already strong defense. This is why you play this type of strong pre district schedule. You find out what your weaknesses are and correct them.

If Boyle goes far enough into the post season, they’ll face a few more great QB’s. Elam of Corbin comes to mind.

    I have some random thoughts:

    1. Dump our current RPI for Calpreps.  Calpreps is clearly superior and comprehensive.

    2. Reduce the number of classifications.  We are seeing more and more there are a few good teams at the top of each class and then teams that have no chance.

    3. Reduce the amount of teams that get in the playoffs by 50%.  Way too many teams get in the playoffs.

    4. Allow one transfer with no restrictions.

    5. Move the State Championships back to Thanksgiving weekend.

Would you choose any of those?  Something else?

When was the last time it was on Thanksgiving weekend?

Boyle will travel down highway 127 to Russell Springs to take on the Russell County Lakers this Friday.  Personally I can not think of better team and place for Boyle County to get win number  500 in school history.  What do you think @Hatz ? I will never forget the 1979 and 1980 losses to Russell County that has haunted me my entire life.

    Boyle County (6-0)
Aug 19, 23 Gibson Southern (Fort Branch), IN at Western Kentucky University (W) 36 - 6  Rafferty's Bowl
Aug 26, 23 Lexington Christian home (W) 47 - 38  Rebel Bowl Sponsored by Whitaker Bank
    Sep 1, 23 Danville away (W) 56 - 0
    Sep 8, 23 Scott County home (W) 54 - 21
    Sep 15, 23 Taylor County away (W) 48 - 3
    Sep 22, 23 Lexington Catholic home (W) 56 - 21

    Russell County (1-6)
    Aug 18, 23 Adair County away (L) 0 - 40  Don Franklin Auto Classic
    Aug 25, 23 Somerset away (L) 24 - 28  Alton Blakely Bowl
    Sep 1, 23 South Laurel away (L) 7 - 12
    Sep 8, 23 Casey County away (L) 6 - 24
    Sep 15, 23 Lincoln County home (L) 28 - 33
    Sep 22, 23 East Jessamine home (W) 21 - 14
    Sep 29, 23 Taylor County away (L) 6 - 44

Great Rebel.  Now I have to go back into therapy again.

There would be a certain irony if the Rebels post win number 500 at the house of horrors Ron Finley built.

As always BGP does a much better job of ranking teams around the state compared to any other source available.  Period. With that said.....

I seriously think you all are sleeping on Ashland.  I would personally have them at three right behind Corbin. And, to be honest, I would not argue with anyone that had them above Corbin.

Bring on the non-believers, I can take it.

Honest answer here, who have they played that makes them compare to whom Cov Cath, Boyle and Corbin have beat?  They were trounced by HHS, a team CC beat. I don’t see them above the top 3.

I think Jack Zwernemann from Bullitt East should start to pop up on some radars. He's currently the 6th leading rusher in 6A (as a QB) and the 2nd leading passer. I know what BE's schedule looks like compared to the likes of Trinity/X/Male, but he's having a standout season after filling the heavy shoes of Travis Egan. If BE has success in the playoffs and district this year, it will have been off of his back.

I should know but is he a Senior?
