Scuttlebut is that our 2nd big will be healed enough to play some minutes in this game.

1989. I felt Donnie Redd of Danville should have been Mr. Football. Great career and then moved to QB his Senior year and the Ads had one of the fastest Wishbone Backfields I've ever seen. I think Pookey Jones was the winner and I'm certain deserved it but Redd was the consumate great player every year he suited up.

I agree but Cal is going to start Wagner and bring Sheppard off the bench he is tied in with Wagner's dad and grandfather not to start him.
I think it helps the team for Sheperd coming off the bench.

Boyle went through 3 coaches and won 11 total games my four years in high school. Chuck got hired in the spring of my senior year. I vividly remember him walking the halls trying to recruit underclassmen to come out for the football team. At that time Boyle had about 600 kids and this is not hyperbole, the band had 180 members... all the cool kids played in the band.
The 1st game of his 1st season the Rebels shocked the central KY football world and beat mighty Harrodsburg with Julius Yeast (Ohio St), Craig Yeast (UK/Bengals), & Dennis (UK/Cardinals) & Derrick Johnson(UK.) They went on to have a winning season, make the playoffs and the foundation was laid.
They played in the same class and district as crosstown rival Danville, and it took about ½ a decade to clear that Admiral hurdle (19 straight losses to the hated Ads.)
By 1999 all the pieces were in place, the nightmare years and stigma of losing football was gone. The band no longer had 180 members and it was not only cool to play football, but kids came through elementary school and middle school dreaming of playing football for the Rebels. They went 15-0 in '99 and brought home the 1st ever state title and the machine that is Boyle football was in place ... you know the rest of the story.
From 1985 to 1992 were the darkest days of Boyle football. One winning season, '86, and the teams weren't competitive. Talent pool dried up and like you said, many athletes opted out of playing. But what Chuck did was special and pretty immediate. Only one losing season (his second) in his tenure and by '96 had defeated Danville and made it to the AA Semifinals only to lose to Breathitt County during their run by a TD.

I think there is a lot to see in this loss about some things.
DJ Wagner is a must have for this team. Foul trouble and fatigue in a close game won't be as difficult to overcome when he is available. Depth is needed for this style of play.
I think Reed and Dillingham make their most impact when they come off the bench. The other team has played 5 minutes and then suddenly they are hit with two guards who play even better than the ones they have been battling.
Bradshaw will be okay once he gets into game shape. But there needs to be at least one other "big" to bring Depth.
Just my take.

Boyle’s first string defense gave up 3 TD’s in the playoffs.
Two were in one game.

You still feel this way if Alabama beats Georgia?
I do. Head to head at Alabama by 10 has to count for something no matter when it was played.

They are probably going to score every time they get the ball.
My guess is that is exactly what Dudley was thinking on 4th down.

I think this proves Boyle was the best in the state maybe Corbin was number two. I know that sounds crazy but Corbin did beat FD who split with Trinity.
I don't think it sounds crazy at all. If you watched the Corbin/Boyle game you'd believe there is a strong case for them being the 2nd best in KY.

First off congrats to Boyle County. But in my opinion this had to be the most boring game I witnessed. I totally understand running the football and being successful is crucial, but when it’s not, throw the dang ball.
I think they tried. They threw the ball 17 times, were sacked 4 times and the QB ran with it some because he did not have time to set up. It was about half the offense.

How many times did they throw to Willie?
I think the stats said 3 or 4 targets.

I hate to say this but…
I believe Justin Haddix may end up supplanting Chuck Smith as the greatest Boyle coach ever
Time will tell. Remember Chuck ran off 5 in a row once

Colonels had an outstanding year to finish 14-1.
Boyle has proven they are the Best Team in the State IMO.
Throughout the season they’ve answered every challenger. In their last 3 games they’ve defeated three unbeaten teams and the last two convincingly.

Gorgeous 32 yard touchdown pass from Sage Dawson to Quisenberry. Tough to defend that one for any team. Wow.
Boyle radio said it was to Geo Brown

If Mayfield finishes this off, I'll have a hard time thinking of a more impressive playoff run by a recent team against 3 high level quality opponents.
If Boyle county wins tonight, I can.

As much as I'm all for putting a running clock on Highlands, Rockcastle did not play the Birds in the 2001 playoffs.
Rock beat Cov Cath in a close one to get to the finals in 2001.
they trounced HHS the next year to get to the finals.

I don’t understand Cals philosophy with Reed. Anytime he’s on the floor it’s all positive.
He has to rest sometimes

I guess the Rebels are not beatable let’s just go ahead and award them the trophy and not worry about a little thing like the game.
Don’t know too many Rebel fans on here thinking that way. We remember 2019 vs Johnson Central.

How big is Boyle on the LOS? Cov Cath is probably bigger than we've been the last few years, but not massive. 3 guys listed at 250 lbs. and then Ben Reeves is a stud high school player and he's probably 6'2, 230.
Not very big on either side of the ball. Someone here can better give details.

Sounds like we might be getting one or two of the bigs back.
We need size, rim protection and rebounding bigs badly.

The hurdle rule does exist. At what point does it fall on the player/coach? What an awesome game to watch. Both teams left it on the field.
It surprised me that he kept doing it. Had he done it in the season and just not had it called?
