  1. Top Teams: 1. Calloway County, 20-2, The Lakers played in the Superman Classic in Metropolis, IL this past week. They beat a winless Sumner, MO 80-29. Their next game was against Charleston, MO and they won to advance to the finals against Carbondale, IL. They lost in a close one 48-38. 2. Murray, 16-6, The Tigers played in the All A Classic this past week. They defeated Fulton County 93-50 in the 1st game hitting 17-24 from 3 pointers. Preston English had 8 of them. Murray started slowly against Mayfield falling behind 5-0 in the first 4 minutes of the game. They got it rolling in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Duane Curtis had 3 straight 3’s in the 3rd quarter to open up a comfortable lead. Murray defeated Ballard Memorial 75-56 in the finals of the All A. Murray’s balanced attack was too much for the Bombers. James Boone is back and is a force. The 6’5 guard presents match-up problems. Murray will play Monroe County next week at Frankfort. Monroe is the top ranked team in all the 4th Region. 3. Paducah Tilghman, 15-5, The Tornado rolled in their 1st game in the Superman Classic beating Century, IL 92-50. The lost in the semifinals to Carbondale, IL 62-54. Paducah bounced back to win 3rd place as they defeated Charleston, Mo. In the consolation game. 4. Graves County, 12-9, The Eagles led state ranked Hopkinsville for most of the game before losing 86-80. Andrew Smith had 29 to lead all scorers. Graves lost to Arnold, FL 64-61 in the Gunner Shootout @ Marshall County. Graves bounced back from their Friday loss and defeated Cairo, IL 78-63. 5. Marshall County, 10-10, Marshall County hosted the Gunner Shootout this past weekend. It is held in honor of Coach Gus Gillispie’s son who passed away of brain cancer a few years ago. Marshall had a nice come from behind win against McCracken in OT on Friday. Collin Travis have 17 and 13 to lead the way. Marshall lost to Arnold, FL on Saturday 59-44. Arnold beat both Graves and Marshall in their visit to WKY. 6. McCracken County, 9-11, The Mustangs traveled to Illinois to take on Cairo in an up tempo game. They won 89-77. They had 6 players with 9 or more points. They lost @ Marshall in OT 51-50. The mustangs had an early 10 point lead in the first half. They are struggling on the offensive end only having one player in double figures in Nathan Telfair with 18. 7. Ballard Memorial, 11-10, The Bombers beat Hickman County 52-47 in the All A Classic in a game that was much closer than most anticipated including me. The Bombers overcame a 12 point 1st half deficit and was trailing 46-41 with a minute to go but pulled a come from behind victory 49-47. A three from Lee Chandler cut it to 46-44 and then a steal and bucket by TJ Wray tied it up. After another Viking turnover Keagan Cooper went to the line to give Ballard their first lead of the game. The Bombers lost in the finals to Murray in the All A Classic 75-56. Ballard’s up and down performances continued and the Tigers took advantage. 8. Mayfield, 8-9, The Cardinals were on fire in the quarterfinal game of the All A Classic and beat Carlisle County 91-72. Seniors Marshall Bacon (25) and Nick Felts (20) led the team to the victory. They could not find the same shooting stroke against Murray in the semifinals of the All A. They lost 57-50. 9. St. Mary, 10-10, The Vikings played Fulton City in the 1st game of the All A classic and beat them 48-36. They lost 49-47 in the semifinals of the All A. Read above under Ballard for details of the game. 10. Carlisle County, 12-6, The Comets lost to a hot shooting Mayfield team in the quarterfinal game of the All A Classic 91-72. Because of the early lose they did not have any other games this week.
  2. Finals tonight @ 8:00 @ Mayfield HS. #1 Murray vs. #2 Ballard Memorial This is what I predicted in the preview. Only missed one game so far so let's see if I can get this one right. Murray beat Ballard Memorial on the road the 1st time 60-52 but it was a one possession game with 1:30 to go. Ballard played without leading scorer Keagan Cooper and Dre Bledsoe. They both were out with injuries. They are both back now. Murray struggled early last night but put Mayfield away in the 2nd half. Duane Curtis hit 3 straight 3 pointers in the 3rd quarter to stretch out the lead for the Tigers. Their press and 3 point shooting finally won out. Ballard came back from an early 12 point deficit and was down 46-41 with a minute to go. A big 3 by Chandler cut it to 46-44 then a steal by Wray and a lay-up tied it up. St. Mary turned it over again and Cooper hit Free throws to take their first lead of the game at 47-46. This game will come down to if Ballard can handle the multiple trapping defenses of Murray. Ballard has played without starting point guard, Tolar Terrell, this week. He has been out due to the flu. Wray has stepped in and played well in his absence. He will have to be big tonight if they want to pull of the upset. Murray will play their game mixing trapping defenses with lots of 3 point shooting. English, Curtis, and Flener are all capable 3 pint shooters. Ballard is going to have to someone step up and score along with Cooper. If Cooper has a big game, they get a couple of others to score, and if Wray can handle Murray's pressure they have a chance. Prediction: I said in last night's predictions that Ballard was the most up and down team in the region. 1st round they were down, semifinals they were up so I am going with the same philosophy. Murray gets them by 10 tonight. It will be a clean sweep for Murray as they will win both the girls and boys' All A regionals.
  3. Semifinals tonight: #1 Murray vs. #4 Mayfield: Murray looked unbeatable the other night against Fulton County but they were playing a weaker opponent. Tonight they have Mayfield and the Cardinals have home court advantage which should help. Mayfield shot lights out on Wednesday against Carlisle County. If Felts and Bacon can continue that shooting they have a chance to upset the #1 seed. Murray's depth is a big key. They go 10-12 deep some nights. The return of 6'4 guard James Boone is big as well as it gives them another offensive weapon. Murray pressing and traps everywhere on the floor. If Mayfield can handle that pressure and the initial traps and score easy buckets then they can hang with Murray. Another key for Mayfield is stopping Murray on the inside. Hornbuckle, Clark, and Sheppard are much bigger than Mayfield's post players. #2 Ballard Memorial vs. #3 St. Mary: this would be the 3rd time that these teams have already played. They have split both their game with both teams winning by 8. The Bombers beat the Vikings without their leading scorer Keagan Cooper, who is averaging 17.7. The key for Ballard this year is their depth and their depth of scoring. They have several that are capable of having big nights, Cody Newton, 9.0, Clay Newton, 8.7, Bledsoe, 7.5, Parsons, 7.4, Chandler, 6.5 and Terrell, 5.8. The Vikings are led in scoring by Ben Hooper and Austin Hubert both averaging 13 points a game. Davis Sims and Payton Smith both chip in 9 points each to help with scoring. St. Mary plays great defense and has the shooters to win this game. Ballard maybe the most up and down team in the region. One night they look great and the next look terrible. They didn't play very well in their 1st game against Hickman County so this maybe the game they play well. Should be 2 good games.
  4. #2 Ballard Memorial survived last night against #7 Hickman County 52-47. Tonight's games: 6:00 Carlisle County vs. Mayfield 7:45 St. Mary vs. Fulton City Friday: 6:00 Murray vs. winner of Carlisle/Mayfield 7:45 Ballard Memorial vs winner of St. Mary/Fulton City
  5. Seeds have held true so far. Saturday: Fulton County over CCA Hickman County over CFS Monday: Murray over Fulton County
  6. Teams ranked 2-6 are a jumbled mess. You could move these teams around in different sports. Same could be said for teams 7-10 as well. Murray has beat Paducah Tilghman and lost to Calloway. Paducah Tilghman has split wih Marshall, lost to Murray and defeated Graves and McCracken. Graves has beat Marshall, McCracken but lost to Paducah Tilghman. McCracken has beat Marshall but lost to Graves and Paducah Tilghman. Top Teams: 1. Calloway County, 17-1, The Lakers beat Trigg County in a closer than expected 54-41 win. Calloway had a big statement win against Murray 61-37. This game was never close. Calloway beat them every facet of the game. 2. Murray, 13-6, The Tigers beat Hickman County 80-47 to start the week. Murray was hoping to make some noise on Friday Night but all the noise came from Calloway as they beat the Tigers 61-37. The Tigers don’t have time to regroup as they play Fulton County on Monday in the All A Classic. The return of 6'4 Guard James Boone should help the tigers in the All A. 3. Paducah Tilghman, 12-4, Live by the three, die by the three. The tornado had a 17-5 lead against Marshall and eventually lost 56-45 as they went 6-22 from the 3 point line. They had beat Marshall earlier in the year 30+. The Tornado recovered on Friday with a nice district win 70-66 @ McCracken County. 4. Graves County, 11-7, The Eagles didn’t play until Friday and Saturday. They had a nice home win against Marshall County 52-49 and then Webster County beat the Eagles 68-54 @ Webster. The young Eagles have made nice strides this year. They are getting good work off the bench from 8th grader Ryan Mathis to help there already deep team. 5. McCracken County, 8-10, The Mustangs have played a tough schedule so far and it has shown with their record. They lost to a solid Cape Central, MO team on Tuesday 55-54. They lost to Paducah Tilghman @ home in a big district match-up 70-66. 6. Marshall County, 9-9, Marshall County had a very nice win against Paducah Tilghman. The 1st match-up was a running clock in the favor of the Tornado. What made this win an even bigger surprise is that the Marshalls played without leading scorer Mason Wooten and Dawson Jolley. Tilghman jumped out 17-5 but Marshall climbed their way back in to eventually win 56-45. Marshall then lost to Graves County 52-49 on Friday and finished the week off with a 64-37 win against Crittenden County. The Marshall are a hard team to figure out. 7. Ballard Memorial, 9-9, The Bombers lost to Mayfield on the road 68-63. They played without leading scorer Keagan Cooper in the 1st half but he played in the 2nd. He has been hurt and that was his first action in over a week. Bombers fell behind big but a nice comeback but fell short. They finished the week with a road win over Fulton County 70-56. The Bombers have had nice balanced scoring over the past several games. Read in the All A preview about their matchup next week. 8. Carlisle County, 12-5, The Comets opened the week with an easy win against Livingston Central. The comets lead after the 1st quarter 36-1. They finished the week off with a solid district win against Fulton County 85-58. Since their loss to Hickman County they have outscored their 2 opponents 158-97. Not the greatest of opponents but it was teams like that they had struggled against earlier in the year. They will face Mayfield in the All A on Wednesday. Read the All A preview for a preview to that game. 9. St. Mary, 9-9, The beat CCA 69-28 in their only game this past week. They will play Fulton City in the All A Classic on Wednesday. Read the All A preview for a summary of that game. 10. Mayfield, 7-8, The Cardinals started the week with a nice district win against Ballard 68-63. The Cardinals were led by Marshall Bacon. Webster County came in to town and beat the Cardinals 51-29. Webster has now beat 4 teams from the 1st Region. Top Games this weekend: Tuesday: Hopkinsville @ Graves County: State ranked Tigers visit the 1st Region. It will be a very tough test for the young Eagles. Wednesday: Carlisle County @ Mayfield- Both of these games are in the All A preview. Fulton City vs. St. Mary Friday: McCracken County @ Marshall County: The Mustangs won the 1st match-up 54-47. The Marshall without 2 players have been playing better. The Mustangs are on a 2 game losing streak. All A Semifinals Saturday: All A Finals Seeds for All A Tournament 1. Murray 2. Ballard Memorial 3. St. Mary 4. Carlisle County, tie 5. Mayfield tie 6. Fulton City 7. Hickman County 8. Fulton County 9. CCA 10. CFS District Standings: 1st District: Carlisle County 3-1 Fulton City 2-1 Fulton County 1-2 Hickman County 1-3 2nd District: Paducah Tilghman 3-0 St. Mary 2-1 McCracken County 1-1 CCA 0-4 3rd District: Graves County 2-0 Mayfield 1-1 Ballard Memorial 0-2 4th District Calloway County 2-0 Murray 1-1 Marshall County 0-2
  7. You may be right on Mayfield beating Carlisle but it can't be a Mayfield/Murray final. The winner of the Carlisle/Mayfield game will play Murray in the semifinal.
  8. Note: 1st Region is the only region to seed their All A.
  9. Top Teams: 1. Murray, 13-5, The Tigers are the team to beat. They have beat Paducah Tilghman and Marshall County and have established themselves as the team most likely to beat Calloway County. They come at you in bunches. They play 10+ players on most nights. 1st group will play a 2-2-1 and the second group will play man to man or a 1-2-2. They try to wear teams down. They are lead in scoring by Sophomore Preston English and Junior Duane Curtis. 2. Ballard Memorial 8-9, This is where the seeding becomes muddy. Any of the teams left could have been the #2 seed. Ballard has an impressive win @ Carlisle County on January 3rd. They have not had much success in the tournament except in 2010 when they won it and 2011 when they lost in the finals. They are led by Junior Keagon Cooper and he has a good supporting cast of 7 others averaging between 4 and 9 points. 3. St. Mary, 9-9, The Vikings are the defending champs although their roster looks much different than last year. Coach Greg Overstreet has got his inexperienced group playing well considering the losses by graduation. 4. Carlisle County 11-5. Of all the teams the Comets are probably most disappointed in their seed. The winner of the Carlisle County/Mayfield game definitely has the toughest path to the finals. They first have to play each other and then have to go through Murray. The Comets are led in scoring by Junior Ethan Weatherspoon followed closely by junior Paxton Crider. 4 tie: Mayfield 7-7 and Carlisle both wished they could have moved up a spot or two to avoid this 1st round matchup. Mayfield is led by Marshall Bacon. The football standout has had some ankle problems but when he plays he is their top gun. Mayfield has several players that can put up some big numbers. Nick Felts is a 3 point sharpshooter. They also have Zach Tyler, Trajon Bright, and 6. Fulton City 4-11, has played better than they did earlier in the year. They are led by Stephen Houston at 12 points a game. Brandon Walker who just joined the team during the Christmas break has averaged 9 points a game and gives them another scorer. They have four other players averaging between 5-8 points. 7. Hickman County 4-12, the loss of Rayshun Shields hurts the Falcons. Ethan Carter has played well as has 8th grader Jordayn Naranjo. They lack the experience to knock off Ballard Memorial. 8. Fulton County 7-9, The addition of Joe Holman during the break should help but won’t be enough to get past Murray. The Pilots are led in scoring by Johnathan Roberson and Major Davis. 9. CCA 1-15 10. CFS 2-13 Match-ups: Link to the bracket http://www.allaclassic.org/Boys%20Brackets/1st%20Region%20Boys%20Brackets.pdf Saturday: #7 Hickman County vs. #10 CFS: This game should not be competitive. The Falcons should win easily against an outmanned CFS team. #8 Fulton County vs. #9 CCA: the same result with this one as the game above. The Pilots should advance with no problem. Monday: Winner of Fulton County/CCA vs. #1 Murray: Murray beat Fulton County early in the year. 71-29 and should have no problem advancing to the semifinals. Prediction: Although the Pilots are playing better they should be no match for the depth of Murray. Tuesday Winner of Hickman County/CFS vs. #2 Ballard Memorial: Hickman County and Ballard Memorial have not played this year but Ballard’s length and athleticism should help them beat the Falcons. Prediction: Ballard should win this win easily. The length, size, and athleticism will be too much for the Falcons. Wednesday: #4 Carlisle County vs. #5 Mayfield: According the LIT rankings that seeded this tournament they were tied for 4/5. Carlisle defeated Mayfield in OT 68-64 on December 19th. These 2 teams have history in the All A. In 2013 the Comets beat Mayfield in the Championship on a shot with 3 seconds left. Last year, the Comets were a #7 seed and upset the #2 seed Mayfield to make an unexpected trip to the semifinals. The Cardinals are a well balanced team but lead in scoring by Marshall Bacon with 15.8 and Nick Felts with 11. Several others can score as well including Bright, Lumson, Tyler, and Noel. The Comets are very similar. They are led by Ethan Weatherspoon with 16.2 and Paxton Crider with 13.6 but have several others capable of big nights in Norsworthy, Carrico, and A. Bailey. Kellett and Morefied are capable scorers as well. Depth in scoring is big for both teams. Prediction: The Comets continue their winning ways in the All A against Mayfield in a close win. #3 St. Mary vs. #6 Fulton City: St. Mary beat the bulldogs 51-31 on December 19th. The pressure that the Vikings break and their tough 2-3 match-up zone should help them handle Fulton City easily. The Vikings are led in scoring by Ben Hooper and Austin Hubert both averaging 13 points a game. Davis Sims and Payton Smith both chip in 9 points each to help with scoring. The Bulldogs are led by Stephen Houston at 12 points and has several others that are averaging between 5-8 points in Brandon Walker, Michael Thomas, Nick Ware, Queshon Ward, and Zach Howard, and Areon Ferrell. 3 point shooting for the Bulldogs will be the key to trying to upset the Vikings. The Vikings usually play a 2-3 match-up zone. Prediction: Close for a half then the Vikings will pull out at least a double digit victory Friday: Semifinals If games go as predicted. #1 Murray vs. #4 Carlisle County, The Comets have the experience and depth to compete with Murray. Both teams go deep in their bench. The Tigers playing 10-12 players and the Comets going 9 deep. The benches could be the deciding factor. Murray will pressure full court most of the game and even in the half-court stay aggressive with trapping defenses. Carlisle’s guards will have to handle the pressure and attack it for easy baskets. Because of Murray’s aggressive play they are susceptible to offensive boards. Prediction: The press wears the comets down and they win by single digits. #2 Ballard Memorial vs. #3 St. Mary, this would be the 3rd time that these teams have already played. Prediction: The Bombers win the rubber match in a close game. 10. I will have the All A preview later in the week. The games start on Saturday.
  11. Top Teams: 1. Calloway County, 15-1, The Lakers beat Mayfield 74-50 behind Parker Adams 24 points on Tuesday. The Lakers beat Marshall County on Friday night 40-32. A big District game this Friday with Murray. The winner will have the edge for the #1 seed. 2. Murray, 12-5, The Tigers beat an outmanned Fulton City team on Tuesday. Murray went on the road and beat Ballard by 8 in a game that was closer than anticipated. Ballard played without their leading scorer Keagon Cooper and another starter Dre Bledsoe. 3. Paducah Tilghman, 11-3, They beat St. Mary in a big district match-up on Tuesday. It was close until a big 4th quarter run by the Tornadoes. The Tornado had a nice win against 2nd region opponent Christian County on Friday night. 4. Graves County, 10-6, The Eagles beat McCracken on Tuesday to jump them in the polls. The Eagles lost a close to game to Tilghman last Saturday and won by double digits against McCracken to move up to #4. Graves beat cross-town rival Mayfield on Friday night and Fulton City on Saturday. 5. McCracken County, 8-8, The Mustangs lost to Graves County at home 49-38. They are having a hard time scoring against the top teams. They scored 36 against Calloway and 38 against Graves. The Mustangs won 2 games in their Mustang Madness. The Saturday game against Muhlenberg went down to the wire. They had a 14 point lead going into the 4th quarter but Muhlenberg tied it up but a FT by McCracken gave them a one point win. 6. Marshall County, 7-8, After a week break the Marshalls beat Cairo on Tuesday 62-43. The Marshalls finished the week with 2 losses. On Friday they lost to Calloway and on Saturday to Carterville, IL. 7. Ballard Memorial, 8-8, The Bombers opened the week with a 77-62 win against Cairo, IL. The Bombers trailed by 2 going into the 4th quarter but turned it on in the last stanza. The last 2 games of the week they played without their leading scorer Keagon Cooper who is out with an ankle injury. They lost a close one to Murray on Thursday and beat St. Mary on Friday. 8. Carlisle County, 10-5. The Comets fought back to win a tough game at Lyon County in OT 81-75. They lost on the road to Hickman County on Friday 56-54 in an upset. The Comets have lost 2 of their last 3 games. 9. St. Mary, 8-8, The Vikings a district game with Paducah Tilghman on Tuesday 66-52. The game was close for 3 quarters but Tilghman pulled ahead in the 4th. They lost to Ballard on Friday to go 0-2 for the week. 10. Mayfield, 6-7, They lost big to Calloway 74-50 on Tuesday. Cross town rival Graves County beat them on Friday night. Top Games this weekend: Tuesday: Cape Central @ McCracken County Paducah Tilghman @ Marshall County, the last time these 2 met the Marshall were embarrassed with a loss in the finals of the Tilghman tournament. It was a running clock in the 2nd half. Ballard Memorial @ Mayfield- battle of two district teams and two All A teams looking to make noise next week in the regional tournament. Ballard beat Mayfield big in a holiday tournament but Mayfield played without leading scorer Marshall Bacon. Thursday: Fulton City @ Hickman County: two teams that are struggling but this game has district implications. Both teams would like to avoid Carlisle County who is hosting the District this year. Friday: Calloway County vs. Murray: Murray looks to unseat the Lakers as the top seed in the district. Both teams stand 1-0 so far. The Tigers look to be the best team to knock off the Lakers in the region this year. Depth could play a big part. The Lakers typically only play 6-7 players where Murray plays 10-12. If the game is called tight it would favor the deeper Tigers. Carlisle County @ Fulton County, A big District game that could go a long way in decided the #1 seed. Comets are 2-1 in district play and the Pilots are 1-1. Marshall County @ Graves County, These 2 schools have a nice rivalry and this game should be no exception. The Eagles have been playing better of late. The Marshalls struggled early in the year but seem to be playing better. Paducah Tilghman @ McCracken County, another district match-up that will help decide the #1 seed. Saturday: Graves County @ Webster County: a tough road match-up for the Eagles. Webster is 14-1 going into this week. Top 5 All A teams: 1. Murray 2. Ballard Memorial 3. Carlisle County 4. St. Mary 5. McCracken County, 6-7, The Mustangs may have lost to Calloway but showed a lot of improvement from their 1st game with them. They had a 36-35 lead but couldn’t hold it as Parker Adams had a put back and got fouled. The Mustangs play Graves County on Tuesday then play Muhlenberg County in their Mustang Madness on Saturday. 5. Graves County, 7-6, The Eagles had an early double digit deficit to Paducah Tilghman on Saturday but fought to make a game out of it. Vogt had a big game and kept it close. Graves County @ McCracken County: a battle of 2 large schools. The Mustangs beat Graves in the semifinals of the region last year. Even though both teams have completely different teams this should be a battle. Thursday: Murray @ Ballard Memorial: This battle of All A teams will give us a chance to see if someone can challenge the Tigers in the All A. Ballard just beat Carlisle and looking to knock off another top team. If the Bombers can get more consistency they could make a run in the All A. Graves County @ Mayfield: A big district game and for seeding in this 3 team district. #1 seed gets automatic trip to regionals. 21. They are solid but you are right they don't play much outside of the 1st Region. They are hands down favorite. Right now I think the only team that can give them trouble is Paducah TIlghman because of their quickness. Murray might be the 2nd team that could take them.
  22. Calloway handles McCracken easily, 68-44 Carlisle County upsets Marshall County, 58-57 Mayfield blows out Hickman County, 75-50 Fulton City gets 1st win vs. CFS, 56-20 Graves loses to Martin Westview, TN, 61-51 Paducah Tilghman beats CCA 98-31

Parker Adams and Skyler Hunter led them in both victories. 2.Paducah Tilghman, 2-0, impressive wins last week. They beat Hickman County @ home. 10. Mayfield, They have not played yet due to football. They play Hickman County and Fulton City this week. Games of the week: Tuesday: -Calloway @ McCracken, a matchup of preseason top ranked teams. McCracken is still trying to find itself with so many that graduated last year. Calloway returns 4 starters. Friday: -Marshall @ McCracken, another matchup of preseason top ranked teams that are still trying to establish themselves among the top teams. -Calloway Co. @ Graves County, interesting story line. Terry Birdsong goes back to Graves after leaving there to go to Calloway County. -Hickman County @ Carlisle County, Early 1st District matchup. No rivalry is more heated especially with the transfer of Austin and Colie Bailey from Hickman County to Carlisle County. -Murray @ Paducah Tilghman, Both teams trying to establish themselves as top ranked teams. PT was impressive last week in their two wins. Murray went 2-1 and was impressive as well. -Ballard Memorial @ St. Mary, may not look big outside of the region but this is a game between two teams that could make some noise in the All A in January. St. Mary has dominated this game the past couple of years. Saturday: -Carlisle County vs. Webster County. This game is part of the Messenger Tip Off Classic held @ Hopkins County Central. Should be a good test for both teams.
