Top Teams:

1. Calloway County, 11-1, The Lakers won the Christmas tournament they were in Fort Walton Beach. They return to regional action this Saturday @ home vs. McCracken County. They beat them in December 68-44.

2. Murray, 9-4, Murray took some losses during the holiday tournaments but they were to solid teams. They lost to Bowling Green, Henderson County, and Caverna. Overall they went 3-3. The Tigers play Henry County, TN on Saturday.

3. Paducah Tilghman, 8-3, The Tornadoes went 4-2 in Christmas Tournaments. They soundly beat Marshall County 74-38 in the finals of their own tournament. They play @ Graves County this Saturday.

4. McCracken County, 6-6, The Mustangs went 2-3 over the Holidays. They had a rough showing at Lloyd Memorial going 1-2. They return to action in the region on Saturday @ Calloway County. They lost last time 68-44.

5. Graves County, 7-5, The Eagles went 3-3 over the holidays. They play at home vs. Paducah Tilghman this Saturday. The young Eagles will have to handle the Tornado pressure and up tempo attack to have a chance to win.

6. Carlisle County, 9-3. The Comets finished 2-1 in the LaRue County Tournament. They will play Ballard Memorial on Saturday @ home in a game with 2 top 5 All A teams.

7. Marshall County, 6-6, The Marshalls went 4-2 over the Holidays but suffered a big lose to Paducah Tilghman. The Marshall do not have another game until next Monday when they play Cairo, IL.

8. Mayfield, 6-4, the Cardinals went 3-2. They played 4 of those games without their leading scorer Marshall Bacon who had hurt his ankle against Carlisle County. They play @ St. Mary on Saturday. They beat them 65-51 in December.

9. St. Mary, 7-6, The Vikings went 2-3 over the break. They will return to action on Saturday vs. Mayfield.

10. Ballard Memorial, 5-7, the Bombers went 3-3 over the break. They beat Mayfield soundly but the Cardinals were without Marshall Bacon their leading scorer. The Bombers play @ Carlisle County on Saturday.

Top Games this weekend:

McCracken County @ Calloway County, The Lakers handled the Mustangs easily in December. This is a chance for McCracken to show if they have improved since the last meeting. The Lakers are still rolling as the top team.

Mayfield @ St. Mary, another rematch from earlier in the year. Both of these teams are top 5 All A teams and this game could affect seeding.

Ballard Memorial @ Carlisle County, a battle of two top 5 All A teams. This game as the Mayfield/St. Mary game could have an effect on seeding.

Murray @ Henry County, TN, Murray travels south of the KY/TN border for this game. Henry County typically has a solid team. Murray has a couple of transfers from Henry County so this game could be very interesting.

Paducah Tilghman @ Graves County, The tornado have established themselves as a top 3 team. A place where the Eagles want to be. Tilghman’s quickness could cause trouble for the young Eagles. Vogt could be a tough match-up for Tilghman if Graves can get it in a half-court game.

Top 5 All A Teams

1. Murray

2. Carlisle County

3. Mayfield

4. St. Mary

5. Ballard Memorial

Top 3 have separated themselves a bit. Of the rest I would rank Graves 4th and McCracken, Carlisle and Marshall basically tied in 5th. The two Murray and Calloway regular season games will be interesting. Calloway remains the heavy favorite to go to Rupp.

I don't think there is much difference from 4-7.

With Christian Co's current stretch Calloway's lone loss doesn't look very bad anymore. Should they be under consideration for a top 20-25 team in the state, or are they still a notch behind that group?

I think it would be difficult to find 25 teams that are better than Calloway. First Region normally gets underrated by the rest of the state similar to McCracken nearly making the Final 4 last year while being rated the 16th best team at the Sweet 16. Calloway is really good and really experienced. If they make it to Rupp they will be a tough out.
