  1. So what makes you think officials "have it in" for Newport, as you're seeming to imply?

I would like you to show me how much interaction have these officials from Louisville have ever had with Newport HS sports in order to even remotely substantiate your argument that the officials were intentionally picking on Newport, as officials have done for "years" in "any sport".

Ask anybody who grew up and went to Newport.

  2. He had jawed at two CovCath players, bent over, put his hands on his knees on the block, and turned to the CovCath student section said something...with the ref between them and him and actually in perfect position. Surprised you missed that from your perfect position.

So a T for saying something to the student section? Must have been harsh. Joke of a call as were most of the charges. It was expected though, good day.

  3. As a spectator, I am astonished at how people (officials, opponents, etc) put up with CovCaths play. I saw flopping, pushing, shoving, what appeared to be a swing in the pile, getting physical after the ref blew the whistle. I guess they are dominant for a reason. Very physical. In my opinion, Newport did a pretty good job keeping it together, albeit not sure why Harding got the technical, but I assume something was said. Crazy he didn’t play the 4thQ! A senior, in a regional semi-final. What is this rule?? Do other schools have this rule? Why does Newport? Can’t believe this was some sort of life lesson or moral teaching.

I think CovCath beats Beechwood in the championship in a nip tuck, back and forth battle.

I was in perfect position when he got the T, I didn’t see anything said. Could have been under his breath but I couldn’t understand what happened. As for why he sat, a rule was put in place by the school, that if a player received a technical, they must sit the rest of that game. Stupid rule IMO. It is what it is. The Golden Boys won and that’s really all that matters.

  4. Is the poll so close because people WANT Newport to win? Based on what you have seen, what makes people believe Newport can actually beat CovCath in this environment? This is what CovCath does. Experience.

People said the same thing in 2010 when Newport played Holmes. A 30 point beat down ensued. I’m not saying that’s what’s gonna happen tonight but things do happen.

  5. Newport has a very real shot here. Most games you know what you’re getting from McGuire, Miller and Harding. When White steps in and starts scoring (their 4th leading scorer at just under 10 ppg) is when things get dangerous. Davis will be their defensive workhorse and do all the little things as he’s done all year. Harding grabbed his 900th rebound for his career in the Conner game and will certainly add more in this one. McGuire didn’t play in their regular season meeting and I really think that was a big factor in the 17 point win for CovCath. These kids are out to prove they belong at the top and I think we finally see that break through tonight. Give me Newport 64-59.

  6. I don't think Glider was trying to be offensive in calling them the "Big 3." They do respectfully average 16, 17, 17. I doubt anyone else in the 9th has their 3rd best player averaging 16!

The "Big 3" have been given more hype than any other trio in the area. However, we all know it is a team sport and it takes all 5 to gel in order to be successful!

Very good possibility and I may have just interpreted it wrong.

  7. I like this matchup for Conner. I look for the big 3 of Newport to get frustrated and get away from Coach Snapp’s game plan and try to do too much 1 v 1. Conner by 6...61-55.

It’s probably a good thing the “big 3” include 2 other plays in White and Davis in which those are BIG reasons for the success Newport has had. And I can assure they don’t like being called “the big 3”. It’s Newport vs Conner not “the big 3” vs Conner. Newport by 8.

  8. 'Last Chance U' coach Jason Brown resigns after text exchange with player

Coach Brown resigns due to an exchange with a player. I guess it catches up with all these guys eventually. Guy could put a winner on the field, but how in the world you allow that to be the face of your program is beyond me.

One of my former players played for him the last 2 years. He said the guy was a nut job.
