Cooper had 10 total fouls in the game. The officials did NOT impact this game, besides the technical called on Harding that fouled him out in the 3rd quarter. Newport outplayed Cooper in the 4th. McGuire also sat a long period of time for unknown reasons.
That said, Cooper was clearly challenged by their coach at halftime and those boys responded. Houston was phenomenal, and Walters was very efficient. Spencer controlled the game on the offensive side, and Centers came in off the bench and executed his role perfectly. As usual, the Cooper defense was pretty darn good, even though Newport executed in 3 of 4 quarters and was able to score 70 on them, which was a little surprising.
Cooper certainly a top team in the state, and Sullivan has his guys ready to compete for another region.
So if Harding doesn’t foul out and McGuire doesn’t get sat, Newport possibly wins?
-
Was Newport winning at the half or did they turn it on in the 4th?
Nice win Jags!
33 all at the break and 56-40 Cooper after 3.
-
Appears the 23-7 3rd quarter sealed Newport’s fate.
-
That got out of hand fast it seems.
-
Will anybody be providing updates for this one?
-
#1 team in the 8th not ranked no respect!
Neither is Newport, who blasted that #1 team.
-
No love for Newport? Sheesh
-
Newport lead 23–17 at the break and then Tandy woke up. This kid is unreal. Newport was outscored 52-23 in the second half.

Who wins the rematch? University Heights beat Newport at Lexington Catholic in December. The Cats lost McGuire in that game after receiving 2 technicals. Can the Cats bounce back and get revenge? Or does University Heights roll again? Thoughts?

I use Fort Thomas hospital. Never been dissatisfied.
-
Newport moves on and will face the University Heights/Bishop Brossart winner. Newport was led by Harding with 17, McGuire 15, Miller 14 and White 11.

I guess prepspin isn’t showing every game?
-
They actually played Newport close for better than 3 quarters at Lloyd.
That could be true. I wasn’t there, just going off score.
-
Has Lloyd played anyone in the Top 10? Just curious because they have a good record, but don’t remember any results from a legit team. Just asking...
Lost to NewCath by 14 and Newport by 21. Those appear to be the only top 10 teams they’ve played.

How many 5 point games or less has Newport been in and won this year?
Congradulations to the Wildcats.
In games decided by 5 or less, Newport is 7-0.
-
What was first quarter score?
-
Unless you were here you wouldn’t believe how it ended!!!! Too much to type though.
Give us the short version.

Better make hockey part of it too. Flag or touch football is approaching.

“Eliminating the advancement of district three and four seeds to the postseason was briefly discussed during Wednesday’s meeting, but ultimately losing that participation opportunity is not desirable, Tackett said”
You get a trophy, you get a trophy, you get a trophy. Heaven forbid we actually make finishing first or second a goal. Let’s continue letting everybody in the playoffs so little Johnny doesn’t cry.

I know it may mean nothing, but James Blackman from FSU entered his name in the portal today. I wonder if maybe this could mean something with Hurts possibly landing there. Or i could just be wishing and reaching.

Weather is much better in Miami, not to mention the "scenery."
Valid point
-
Guess he enjoys the back up QB life. I would have just stayed at OSU.
-
I’d also like to point out that Kaleal Davis from Newport put the clamps on Brannen. Held him to 2-9 from the field and only 5 points.
-
And to go along with that, Newport had 12 second chance points. We can try and justify that Beechwood is better but the game, essentially without Makhi, proved otherwise.

Who is playing well for the Cats?
