Yeah, San Francisco was a basketball powerhouse back in the day too. We get it.

McCarty is NOT a booster, he's a coach.
That rule is defined loosely, saying reasonable purchases for entertainment on a road trip is permissible. While Patron is a little high-end for my tequila drinking, I think it makes the slide under the tag there.
A bigger concern for UofL was to make sure that no one thought that the players were in the casino. Kenny Klein, if you look, said that there would be no photos of the players in the casino, not the nightclub.
A. You think him being a Coach makes it better or worse than if he was a booster?
B. $10 drinks is a "resonable purchse" ... on a road trip? Really?
Again, I'm just spit-balling. I do NOT think this is a big deal and frankly, can't imagine anyone is worked up over it.

Told you it wouldnt take long!!
Umm, "told you" it wouldn't be a program of Arkansas' caliber.

From what I hear he does not like to recruit. I think someone said he himself has only landed 1 recruit at LSU.
Gee, that sounds awesome.

Here is the applicable wording regarding what a Booster can't do (again, to the NCAA a Booster is anyone who has EVER donated to a University's Athletic Program):
• Provide a Student-Athlete with any extra benefits or special
arrangements such as expense money, movie passes, free
meals at restaurants or free or reduced housing arrangements.

Question, is there a chance that the reason UL wanted a retraction (if they did) was because a friend of their Coach was buying alcohol for athletes on scholarship? I haven't memorized the NCAA Guidelines, but I do know a booster (which is VERY loosely defined) can not buy ANYTHING for an athlete based solely on the fact that they participate in sports for the University. Since I can assume that Big Walter wasn't buying rounds of Patron for the Drama Club, that in fact could be the reason. I'll find the wording and post it.
I'm just guessing, just to be clear.

Just awful news....
I agree; very, very sad.

IMO, 70% of the listeners to the sportstalk shows never call in.
My unofficial opinion would be that number is closer to 95% of listeners never call.

Nutt will coach again.
Where did anyone insinuate that he wouldn't?

I agree with all parties that Turner Gill is not close to being ready for the job in Lincoln. As we talked about a month ago, this job was going to be on a platter for Alvaraz (no interest) and then Pellini. The only way it was getting past those two was if they said, "no." I can't imagine Pellini not wanting the job, especially given the fact that Les is probably leaving and I doubt Bo would have been LSU's top choice. I just hope if Pellini comes he is able to keep the recruits from the Southeast heading to Nebraska.

Again, we'll agree to disagree. Larry Eustachy could win and recruit well too...where is he now? Southern Miss? Believe it or not, moral fortitude does mean something when dealing with young adults...thankfully. His next job will NOT be the caliber of Arkansas...I'd nearly guarantee it. If I'm wrong I'll be disappointed.
Ole Miss is NOT the caliber of Arkansas...right?

Please.
What? I was just agreeing with Coach Gillispie. :sssh:

I agree with hssb. I've seen this song and dance from the Jags before...

Let's see if I've heard this before, they hit their peak around week 12, take a horrible loss down the stretch that either knocks them out completely or horribly damages their seeding. Then, after the euphoria of their week 12 pinnacle, they flame out in week #1 of the playoffs.
I'm betting I get a rerun this year. I'm sure there is a stupid loss coming down the stretch. To paraphrase Dennis Green, they are who I think they are.

"...DJ can defend at the NBA level...."
Well said BCG, well said. Truer words have never been spoken.

Great news for the Cats.

Wasn't he almost going to Nebraska before he backed out and they hired Callahan???
If memory serves, yes. Wasn't that before this fiasco started...Bill was there 4 years, right? Asking, don't remember for sure.

WK needs a role where he doesn't have to talk to the public.
I think those nice offices over-looking 2nd Street agree with you.

He's a guy that wins and recruits well. He'll be fine.
Again, we'll agree to disagree. Larry Eustachy could win and recruit well too...where is he now? Southern Miss? I don't think the change by itself did him in. I think the lady friend emailing the kid and completely chewing him out and telling him what piece of trash he was did him in. Add in the phone calls/text messages to the female reporter friend and the circus is now in town.
You mean texting your girlfriend (while your married) 15 minutes before kick-off of your bowl game is a bad idea? Who knew?
-
He'll go wherever he wants!
Are you serious? I couldn't disagree more than I do. Unless of course you mean he'll go wherever he wants and he'll want to go to a lesser program than Arkansas...and in that case I agree with you.

Clear Channel Cincy is in a world of hurt for about 50 reasons and nearly all of them are self-inflicted. They have been so poorly run from the top down that you almost couldn't make it up.

Lance has been working all year without a contract. I'm hearing he will give CC first run at keeping him, but after the last trend I'm not sure that's going to work out. There has been talk since I was hired at Cumulus that 96.5 would go all sports. Add Dan Patrick after the Angries and Lance before Furman and there you go...
Not to mention, I'd think 96.5 will be someone's local flagship station before long. :sssh:

Houston, here is $3.5 million to not coach our boys anymore.
Houston Nutt: Out at Arkansas; in at Ole Miss
in College Football
Posted
Honestly, as I read this diatribe on Ole Miss Football, all I could hear was Charlie Brown's teacher reading it to me.
