  1. A bit early but looking to see what the dates for district and regional games are. I'm not that in tuned with how KHSAA runs post season and it seems I recall finding it hard last year trying to find some form of a bracket posted for matchups. I haven't seen anything posted on KHSAA outside of site plans in regards to post season play. Jut looking for dates of district and regional of course at this time. Any insight would be helpful. OHHSAA have their regional through state finals bracket with date and times except for Finals. Just wondering how KHSAA handles it and when they post dates and times.
  2. exactly, which is why refs use the term "game management". Most if not all would like the players to figure it out and in high level club team games they frankly do, for the most part. However; in high school play with such a discrepancy in the level of technical skill and soccer IQ, if play is not "tightened" for game management reasons it can get very ugly and become a safety issue very quickly. Thus one reason why calls are seemingly changed by the CR during a match, inconsistent across games or across CRs.
  3. The key point being the "ball is not in play". What most spectators don't realize is that the original call that stopped play is always the restart. In this case a foul was called and restart is the kick. Even if the attacking team subsequent to the foul being called punches a defending team and gets tossed from the game, the attacking team has the restart. From what has been described, instructions were given, which is supposed to be given if a CR involves him/herself in the restart (as apposed to allowing quick restart), to set the ball and once set it's not to be moved again. The CR turned attention to wall, depending on CR instructions to ARs the CR may walk forward with the AR monitoring ball placement or walk backwards keeping an eye on ball placement. Not sure at what point the ball was moved, where the CR was, etc but I'm assuming here that instructions were clearly given and the attacking player deliberately moved the ball which is not handling as the ball was not in play. In this case, the CR most likely cautioned the player for "Misconduct" (HS term) and specifically "unsporting conduct due for "unnecessary delay". As an aside, the CRs responsibility is to keep an eye on his/her surrounding in these dead ball situations (e.g. pushing going on in wall) and can't keep an eye on player actions and ball placement at same time. For this main reason, international play as most of us have seen the past few years, are using the temporary marking of placement both of ball and wall with the infamous white marking spray. The spray for wall marking of course is to ensure required distance is kept by defending team. Again, not being there these are all guesses and may very well be justified or not based on the specifics of the circumstances and unless you are within 10 yards of the play and hear all what was said I'd be leery of questioning the CR. ok, ref loyalty off, if the ball in fact moved on it's own due to field conditions AND the CR saw that occur then of course it will be a hard case to make for misconduct. Just happy to hear that due these events a subsequent yellow didn't come into play and have a significant impact on the results of the game.
  4. I caught tail end of first half and all of second. I was a bit surprised by score when I arrived and was aware of the senior losses Scott had coming into the season but as stated here I think the athleticism of the CC players kept it close. However; Scott's technical abilities looked to wear them down. Morgan is a nice strong player up top of Scott and if they can find channels to slot him through balls he has the ability to hold of defenders and put strong shots on frame. I've seen him play club as an outside mid but can see him playing a good HS Forward position as they are.
  5. I would agree but it required throwing 3 sometimes 4 defenders at him. He's a very strong, quick and technically gifted player. As I understand it talking with one of the WH parents WH was without 3 starters including starting and backup V keeper. Their keeper last night was the backup JV keeper which showed in many of those crosses into the box a few of which resulted in header goals. #45 from WH was fun to watch purely to see if his throw-ins were going to land in the back of the net with or without being touched. I think i saw him toss one from the 20 yard line that hit the top of the net. Was hoping for a more competitive game but was nice to see the tall Wessels (sp?) boy see action as I heard he was out this season so far. He adds a lot of size and ball control mad defensive mid work which will be needed with stronger teams.
  6. I made the first half of the CCH v WHS game and happen run into his father whom I've seen reffing club games and asked about this. He's narrowing down his list but it sounds like he has about 4-5 DIs as the focus with a couple DII & DIIIs in the mix still. As three of the WHs players on his club team were out on the pitch it appeared they were doing some fun ribbing during the match. Haven't seen him play since Wisconsin but IMHO he's a good example of how a greater player can make those around him/her better. He sees the full field, knows where it needs to go the next two passes before receiving and is extremely smooth and knows when he can and should just take on defenses with the technical skill to penetrate back lines. I can see why the CCH faithful are excited about their prospects. If they can combine their athleticism with ball control at pace they should be able to advance far come end of season.
  7. Haven't caught any NKY games yet but will next week. Wondering how the early predictions on players to watch is panning out so far any players filtering to the top from the exhaustive list thrown out so far.
  8. chalk it up to old age and old eyes. Although an easier way to estimate is by the goal line markings. 18 yards from edge of penalty line to goal post, 8 yards post to post, 10 yards from arch to 10 yard mark (yellow hash on out side of goal line near edge of penalty box), 1 yard for corner arch, maybe add a 1 yard for distance from penalty to 10 yard hash comes to 68 yards or thereabout.
  9. I actually meant to state 60 wide. I had heard their coach is looking to bid for Regional once the other criteria are met (e.g. lights) so if that's the case the field must be 60-80 yards wide and 110-120 long otherwise the field doesn't qualify beyond District which is has in the past.
  10. Pretty impressive pitch/field. Pitch looks to be about 115-118 by 50 yards.
  11. Not being a KY guy I'm curious as to how many schools by region in KY field a Varsity team and size of school as I assume the reason they don't have the state broken down by Class (1A, 2A, etc) is due to the small number of total programs or the lack of programs across all regions.
  12. Great news to hear and well deserved from the play I saw. After seeing his team play up in Wisconsin and after speaking with a a few coaches I knew watching 2 of their games as well I believe there are 3-4 others with D1 offers on that team. Along with Devin I was informed the other NKY player in the same class with D1 offers was the Bryce Day. I was surprised to hear that Parker Kenney was not until I heard he was going to UK on an academic scholarship and may walk-on down there.
  13. My apologizes to "house divided". Doing this from my phone and hadn't realize that post was from the semis. That too was a good match especially with the 89th minute goal to send them to finals today.
  14. Actually, I believe the final was 2-0 unless I fell asleep at some point. just jumped in car after watching this one. Well played game by these young ladies. It was nice seeing them move the ball around and using the whole field. Entertaining battle between the KHA forward and Jaguars' center back all game. Those two ladies battled well the full 90 mins. Best of luck to them at Nationals.
  15. Tough losses by all three local teams in semis yesterday. Caught one game each of all local boys clubs playing this weekend and was nice seeing many of boys playing top notch ball. I had only seen the u17 KHA team once at state cup and they really stepped up play this weekend with a couple of the NKY boys playing some incredible ball. The u18 CUP gold loss at semis in PKs was a heart-breaker. Great game to watch though. Unfortunately, they played the same time KHA played and only saw half of each. Looking forward to seeing some of these young men play again in a few months.
  16. Congrats and good luck to the KHA u16 and u17s winning group play and competing in the semis as Regionals today.
  17. Congrats to this group of NKY players who have moved onto semis this afternoon along with the player from CUP u14. Best of luck today.
  18. Best place for roster list is here.GotSoccer Rankings. of course you need to know the schools. you also have to dig around if you aren't sure what their teams rank is. Best to do it by state then click on team and roster is provided.
  19. Their website looks up to date. I looked at a few other HS sites and most seem to have been updated.
  20. The 2015 season schedules have been published. How does your team's schedule look in the up coming season?
  21. thank you for the update. I was pretty sure the 16s were but unaware of the 15s.
  22. Congrats to all the local HS players moving onto Regionals June 20-24 in Appleton, WI. Below is a list of those teams who have players from NKY HS moving onto the region championships. NOTE: If any team is missed please add to the list. I certainly look to keep an eye out for those teams while up at regionals. U13 KHA Red U14 CUP Gold U14 NKSA-Lorenz U17 KHA Red U18 KHA Red Note: This is solely based on the results of OS and KY State Cup finals. Other teams with NKY players may qualify for a wildcard. e.g KHA U16 based on National League results. If they do please reply to this post. Good luck in Wisconsin ladies.
  23. Tacking in terms of enforcing new eligibility rules going into affect? They have been keeping track of cards for both individuals as well as teams for some time. I haven't heard nor does the KHSAA website mention and policy/rule change in regards to cumulative yellows amounting to a disqualification. If they do, I hope the consider the rules enforced by UEFA which i believe is a diqualification of one match when either a yellow is issued in 3 consecutive games played in or a 5th occurs. This works for eligibility of individual players but not for team accumulation of yellows. I know the commission monitors all disqualifications pretty closely. But in terms of team punishment I'm not sure what they can do. I believe a saw something on KHSAA's website a few years back when this was mentioned and I believe it stated fines can be charged to the schools and they use the usual terms like "lack of institutional control". No expert on this by any means but I definitely think strong punishments are needed if anything for the safety of the players as well as the trying to keep the matches played in the spirit of the game which is a bit unique to soccer (IMHO).
