  1. I was there! It was a mess. We were told we were playing the 03 Bandits, then told we were playing the Krushers, then we ended up playing the Orange Bandit team. It was definitely a mess. TBH, I'm glad we didn't play the Krushers! My daughter had to pitch due to the starting pitcher being on vacation and last time (with our starting pitcher) the score wasn't pretty. My daughter is still learning to pitch and I don't want her confidence taking a huge beating right now. You guys have a good team!

  3. "I know I might be coming off as a little insensitive, but I sure would like to see our girls as a whole get a little tougher."

You will think tougher when you see a kid take one to the orbital socket. The sound is something you will NEVER forget! Why chance it? To be tough? So YOU think they are tough? They are young ladies- who wants to wear that scar for the rest of their life!? Have you seen how fast and hard the ball comes off the bat- get a little tougher? seriously... smh! :ohbrother:

My 16 yr old son had his orbital socket completely shattered pitching last travel season. Probably one of the worst things I have witnessed. He's had one major reconstructive surgery and needs at least 1 more surgery. Thankfully, he didn't suffer a major head injury. He wears one of these in his hat now...SST Pro Performance Head Guard For Right Handed Pitchers- Highest Impact Rating 13U+ All Hats Size 7 and Up | Safer Sports Technologies ? (470) 238-9778 ? info@sstcomposites.com At least it protects his head. I WISH there was something for baseball that was accepted like the mask my daughter wears when she pitches.

  4. My daughter plays 12U and it is required for her team to wear a face mask in the infield. It is optional for outfield, but most outfielders choose to wear their mask as well. In every tournament and game at the 12U level, I have yet to see any infielder without a face mask. It has been this way since she started playing a couple of years ago. She just played her first season of high school ball and I was taken aback by the number of girls who do not wear masks. A pitcher would wear a mask every now and then, but for the most part I did not see any JV or varsity player wear a mask. I know that my daughter was the anomaly when she wore her mask while pitching this high school season. My son was severely injured while pitching last summer (took a line drive to his face/eye). He has had one major reconstructive surgery and has at least one more minor surgery in the near future to repair all the damage. My daughter was at the game when he was hurt--some images will stick with you for a long time. She used to grumble about wearing her mask while pitching, but now is glad that she has it. I hope more girls choose to start wearing their masks at the high school level.

  5. St.Henry beats Dixie 4-2 last night in a district game. Not sure how the 34th stacks up now. St.Henry has beat Lloyd and Dixie lost to Ludlow in the all A (not sure if that counts as the district game).

I'm not sure when St Henry and Ludlow play again. I know that they were scheduled to play a second time right after the All-A at Florence Freedom; but there was a scheduling mistake/confusion and St. Henry did not show up (they thought the game was the next night). Both the umpires and Ludlow were at Florence Freedom ready for the game. I have no idea how it will be/is being handled.

  6. We started a Frosh team (consisting of 6th & 7th graders) 5 years ago because the was no fastpitch league in Campbell Co to get these girls acclimated to the game before they entered high school and at the time a few schools were doing the same.....so it made sense to do it and it has made a difference.

The fast pitch leagues really make a difference. My daughter is in middle school at Ludlow--she plays both JV and varsity. The JV team consists of 7-10th graders--most of them having never played fast pitch softball. There really is nothing in Northern Kenton County for these girls. We were lucky to find NKYA and NKB to get her started before moving to travel but both of those leagues involved driving to Independence or Boone County for practices/games. Fast pitch is a great game! I wish more girls in my area had access to it.

  7. I am sure that every District Tournament has a David vs Goliath but this was the 34 Districts version.

Dixie controlled the tip and scored on an uncontested layup on a pass from Tibbs.(awesome play) Then something happened, undermanned & undersized Ludlow clamped down on defense and suddenly Dixe knew they were in a Fight. Tibbs was pushed away from the basket so Dixie turned to Davis who hit two 3 point shots to extend the early lead for Dixie. Wofford drove to the basket several times off balance and falling to the floor(No Foul). Collins & Young each hit a 3 pointer for Ludlow to keep the game close. Warndof picked up 2 quick fouls the 2nd a bogus call from the female ref. Coach Wofford with fire blasted the officials as her team fought to keep this a close game. Tori Wofford makes two acrobatic shots to keep Ludlow close and it is a hard fought 11 point lead for Dixie at the half. I stood and cheered Ludlow as the half ended. Dixie to big and to strong and to deep in the second half for Ludlow.

Final score Dixie 63 Ludlow 35.

    Dixie had 11 girls score, Davis 15, Tibbs 13 & Bluemlein 9.

    Ludlow had 6 players score, Wofford 16, Warndorf 9 & Collins 5.

Depth was a big key to Dixie's win tonight. 11 players scored for Dixie.

Tibbs had a nice game but Depth wore Ludlow down.

Coach Wofford did a good job getting Ludlow ready for this game.

Dixie to play St Henry in the Finals. No David vs Goliath here. Both teams have a big girl and both are able to shot the 3. Coach Sturgeon scouted the game and I am sure he saw Ludlow play tough defense.

I believe Ludlow was 15-14 on the season and undefeated in Division 3.

Great job girls and the Ludlow coaching staff.

Next year should prove to be the year Ludlow reaches the Regionals.

St. Henry loses about 7 players. Dixie loses 3.

This opens the door for Erlanger Lloyd & Ludlow.

Should be an awesome District next year.

    GO PANTHERS

Thanks for the summary! I really think there are good days ahead for the girls basketball program at Ludlow. The middle school girls teams are doing quite well in the small school division. The 7th grade team has yet to lose a game and will be playing the championship game on Saturday. The 8th grade team has only lost a few games and will be playing in their championship game on Saturday as well. There is a lot of talent in the 6/7/8 grades, they just need some time for grooming. An issue Ludlow does have is numbers. Both the 7th and 8th grade classes are small; as in ~50 students each grade (boys and girls). Assuming there are 25 girls in the 7th grade; 9 of them (36%) are currently playing basketball. This core group of girls are all also playing volleyball, soccer, softball and track. Coach Wofford is going to have a balancing act to get them ready for high school basketball but still allow them to be high school students and have other activities besides basketball. I'm excited to watch Ludlow Girls basketball these next few years. I hope you stick around to watch!
