  1. I believe I remember him signing with Lourdes University, but he is not listed on their roster.

How about another small town kid. What did Evan Slone end up doing?

Brady Hayes played for Salem International in Salem, WV last year but I do not see him on this year's roster. Tanner Verst (Brossart) is at Alice Lloyd College and Ethan Doty is pitching at Otterbein (and doing quite well from what I see on Twitter). TC Eades of Ludlow is playing at Berea.

  2. Daughter is heading out to NKU for 5 weeks. Anyone else have kids in GSP this summer, if so where are they?

I guess this will be an empty nest trial run for her momma and I. She's never been away for more than a few nights at one time, so 5 weeks will be hard on us...I just hope she enjoys the experience and has a great time.

Congratulations! My upcoming JR was accepted into NYUs precollege program and received a nice scholarship. We deposit her in NYC next week for 6 weeks. I'm going to miss her horribly. Next year, she will be applying to the GSP. I hope your daughter loves it!

  3. If the weather is nice, I am taking in a Florence Freedom game Saturday night.

Was hoping to find a mom and pop place very close to the stadium to eat.

Livers and onions would be awesome.

The Farmstand in Union is fantastic. Although I highly doubt they serve liver and onions. Florence and the surrounding area severely lacks in independently owned establishments.

  4. Sullivan would be a good thing at Ludlow. Did Wofford step away or was it a non-renewal situation?

According to the River City news at the latest Ludlow Board of Education meeting, Wofford is moving on to a new career. I have no idea what that entails (leaving the district or not).

  5. Looks like Slone is on the roster @ Anderson Broadus but hasn’t accumulated any stats for last year or this year.

Eads is on the roster at Berea, and is hitting a little over .300 in 16 AB’s.

I couldn’t find any info on Raisor. He committed to John Logan Community College, but does not appear on their roster this year. Can’t find any info on him for last year.

I also know Ethan Stringer (Beechwood) is in the regular lineup at Louisville, hitting .270ish with a couple homers.

Brayden Combs (Beechwood) redshirted last year at UK and is on the roster but doesn't have any stats for this year.

It's usually pretty easy to find info using Google.

Evan Slone is still playing at Alderson Broaddus University. Division II in WV. He has been injury ridden these past 2 seasons (multiple surgeries including eye surgery--he suffered a terrible eye injury playing travel ball a few years ago and is still dealing with the trauma). I do foresee him to start getting more playing time this year and if he can stay healthy playing more next season.

  6. My son's school was on lockdown last Monday for an active shooter. I received his text message immediately after receiving the message from the school. He had to shelter in place in a classroom. It was a long 25 minutes until the SWAT team found the student in question. The student who threatened campus, was my son's lab partner in a biology class. One of my biggest fears when he went away to college.....

  7. Kevin Gray is an outstanding choice to take over at Beechwood. I wish him nothing but the best in his new position. With that being said I'm not sure I will ever be able to cheer for his team. I mean it's Beechwood for God's sake and I'm a Ludlow Panther thru and thru. Lol. Congratulations Kevin and good luck.

Love Kevin and wish him nothing but the best in his new endeavor. He was a breath of fresh air when he came in and I'm so happy that my son was able to play under him for three years.

But, it makes me sad for those boys at Ludlow. Kevin is a stand up guy and really "stood up" for some of those boys. He stepped in and filled roles that some of these kids were missing (at times providing food in his office for players who needed it). Ludlow's loss is definitely Beechwood's gain.

  8. Just saw a video of a buddy pitching in a slow pitch softball game and he got drilled. Luckily it didn't hit him in the face. Also worked with a guy who lost his son who was pitching in a collegiate level league and got hit in the head and killed him.

    It's dangerous!

There are items a pitcher can wear to minimize damage from being hit by a ball. My son was hit in the face by a line drive while pitching 16U. His orbital socket was crushed and his tear duct destroyed. He required multiple extensive plastic surgeries to rebuild his face and to repair the resulting double vision. He was lucky in that he took the ball in his orbital socket and not on this temple or forehead; that most likely would've killed him. I was standing by the dugout when it happened and will never get the sound of the ball crushing his face out of my head. When he was ready to go back on the mound we looked into protective gear for him. I wished he could've worn a face mask like his sister when pitching :-). We tried a pitching helmet first; similar to the catcher helmets that used to be worn in the 70's/80's. We couldn't find one that fit well and stayed on his head while pitching. We ended up with a plate that is similar to a soccer shin guard that fit inside his ball cap and attached with glue. While his face wasn't protected, his head was. It worked well. He used that insert his last two years of high school/travel baseball. He is now playing in college, but is an infielder and not pitching. He was released from care by the Cincinnati Eye Institute in December (the level of care received by both CEI and Cincinnati Children's Hospital was fantastic!). He was told at that appointment that most injuries they have seen similar to his resulted in loss of the eye and he will be used as a case study.

Going back to the softball thread....my daughter is a pitcher and used to complain about wearing her facemask (it makes her face breakout). She witnessed him being hit and all of his resulting surgeries. Never again had to have a discussion with her about wearing her mask while pitching.

  9. I'm really kind of surprised at all the people who are against their daughters wearing masks. No disrespect to anyone but it's surprising.

My son nearly lost his eye taking a line drive to his face while pitching 16U. He needed 3 reconstructive surgeries, plates and screws to repair the damage. My daughter saw it happen. Never had another fight with her again about wearing her mask when pitching or playing infield.

  10. Heard that this job has been filled. Anyone have any news?

Yes. The girls met the new coach today. His name is Micah Montecalvo. I was told that he has coached AAU but not high school ball (but a quick twitter search looks like he may have been at Grant) I believe he is currently coaching KY Premier.

  11. Any update on how he is doing?

Mitchell is recovering and doing more and more every day. He has moved from rehab in Columbus to rehab in NKY. I'm sure it is easier to be near family. I hear he is enjoying Taco Bell, Skyline, and his phone. He has recently become active on Facebook again. I know his family is eager to get him home. It has been a long ride for Mitchell and his family and still a long road ahead of him.
