Jermaine.
Wow, sorry to hear that, I grew up with the family. The Powell's and Bradford's are great people and a very nice family. My condolences

D lost his biggest fan yesterday, his paternal grandfather. Expect him to be extra explosive this season as I'm sure he will be devoting his season to him. The stands won't be any less noisy, but they will be a little dimmer without his proud smile.
Is his father Jermaine or Trey?

Let's have some predictions from the BGP'ers for tonight's NCC/CCH frosh final. I'll take CCH in a close one with a late jumper from Gunnar Schuh!

I would like to hear some feedback from BGP'ers on the importance of middle school football? Boone does not have a middle school program, my sources close to the program say that there is not enough resources to have a team. Does this put Boone behind the 8 ball even more? Most schools have gone to this format, it gives them a chance to learn an abbreviated system that they will run in high school.
Love or hate the Bluebirds, you have to respect them and their success. The Ft Thomas youth program runs a very condensed version of what they see in the future. I was at the Boone/Highlands game when Towles was a senior, they won 50-0 that night. I was most impressed with all the players on HHS knowing their roll, everyone of them had those miniature playbooks on their arms, everyone was on the same page. During change of posessions, HHS came on and off the field as a unit, Boone seem to be overwhelmed and never really had a chance.
I do not believe you can teach that kind of execution in one summer to kids. This is just another disadvantage the Boone kids have to overcome.

Maybe more NKY pollsters so far???:sssh:

Correct me if I'm wrong because you might know, but how many high schools did he end up playing for? I could have swore he also bounced between the three "River City" schools.....Bellevue, Dayton, & Newport.
Had he been able to stay away from drugs, we would have seen him, without question, playing on a Major D1 team, (Duke, Maryland, etc.)
I remember 8th grade varsity at Dayton, 9th grade varsity at Newport, then 10th grade back to Dayton, but my memory gets a little fuzzy from there.

How is Trinity's length? This is a great test for both teams to prepare them for tournament play.

The cubbard is a little bare, I hope that I am wrong, I have friends whose kids are on the team. You feel for the coach who moved his family up here from a winning program, then gets shut out and his kid gets hurt. Enrollment and demographics play a huge roll in the success of a program. I was in a debate on another thread last week on this topic. Simon Kenton has benefited from population growth in Independence, Lloyd and Boone have been affected from mature neighborhoods.
Boone County's population has exploded in the last 20 plus years, but look at where Boone drew from pre-Ryle and Walton Verona did not play football. They rarely had kids going both ways and they had special team players that would of started on most clubs. Scott County is now the Boone of the 80's and 90's, no other county schools to compete against them.

How tall was the late "Tigger" Brooks???? You could list him at Dayton, Bellevue, & Newport, I'm pretty sure he had stops at all 3 high schools in the mid 80's.
The kid could "flat-out" play, unfortunately drugs consumed his life before he reached his ultimate potential. 2 years ago at his funeral on display were recruiting letters from Maryland's Lefty Driesell and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski, among others.
I am not sure how tall Tigger was but you are correct when you say he could flat out play. I believe he was 2 years older than me, I remember playing Jr. Pro ball with him at the American Legion in Newport. He was a man among boys, throwing it down as a 7th grader. It is ashame how it ended.

Former CCH sharpshooter Mike Schuh looks like Jack Nicholson with the front row seats!

To the best of my knowledge, yes they are on for this afternoon and evening!
Will you be kind enough to give us updates today? It was really nice last week while I was working, made the day go by faster. Thanks again!

How tall was Ben Coffman who played at Boone in early 80's? Maybe 6'8"
I think he is probably close to 6'6'', I was standing next to him last week at a game and I am 6'3''.
-
Newport 6'7 Lewis from the 90s.
Dayton 6'6 Cline
Holmes 6'7 Noll
HC the kid last year 6'9
Lloyd Jay Stenzel 6'7"
Boone Dave Dinn 6'6''
Walton Scott Benton 6'6''
CCH Sean Dineen 6'8''

I just saw Lawnboy post, thanks for the update!

There was a kid that played for Bellevue in 86-88' ish that was 6'11", I do not remember his name, he had a very thin build. Any Tiger historians help out?
-
I was not in attendance tonight, has the cream rose to the top with Ncc and Cch? Are their any players ala Cooper or ???

That dog does not hunt anymore. Jeff Tierney is not coming though those doors, Jeff Nelson is not coming through those doors, Jeff Watts is not coming.... You get the picture!

Great kid and great family!

I am seeing conflicting responses, are they going to broadcast the CCH game on the internet?

Also being honored as the “Team of Distinction” is the 1997 State Champion Softball Team.
The induction ceremony for these men and women will occur on Saturday, February 15, 2014 in the Newport Central Catholic Gymnasium. The evening will begin with a social hour at 6 PM followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at 7 PM.
NCCHS will be awarding the Coach Jim Connor Award to Mr. Ralph Meyer. The Coach Jim Connor Award is an award being given to Mr. Meyer for exemplifying the ideals and traditions of Newport Central Catholic and for the excellence he has achieved in his work and his personal life. In addition, the Fr. John Hegenauer Community Service Award will be given to Mr. Roger Wagenlander, for his commitment to Newport Central Catholic and to the family values NCCHS strives to impart to its students.
All proceeds from the event directly support the athletic programs at Newport Central Catholic.
There are a lot of great names on that NCC list. I would just like to point out Mr. Shea for his contributions to NKY as a player, coach, teacher, father and mentor. You will not find a better person, I had the honor of playing baseball for him 35 years ago, then he was my son's golf coach last year. Mr. Shea is a very humble man that has contributed to the NCC and St. Henry/Erlanger community his entire life. He has four wonderful children who all were excellant athletes. You will never find a bigger Fighting Irish fan. Mr. Shea was a major influence in my upbringing and many others that he has touched. I am very happy NCC is giving him this day of recognition!

Tony had an older brother Brian, it could be his kids. Tony passed away at 18, he did not have children to my knowledge.
