While you don't want to put too much stock into it, you also don't want to gloss over it especially if you have an offense dependent on some passing or play in a district against teams that like to throw the football

The OJ verdict was a perfect legal storm that we rarely see. I thought the 'OJ: Made in America' series framed it perfectly. History of racial divide between LA and the police. Rodney King beaten on video but no guilty verdicts. OJ Simpson with a history of domestic violence that somehow never came to justice. Investigative errors made by the police and coroner in the investigation. A judge who let way too much speculative information make its way into the trial. Poor jury vetting by the prosecution. A prosecutor who could not connect with the jury. And a legal defense team that was able to take every bit of that and spin it into a verdict in favor of their client.

i don't think John Grishman could have written a book based on the OJ trial that people would read as believable.

The evidence and testimoney allowed in the civil case that Judge Ito threw out of the criminal trial is the reason why OJ was found guilty in the civil trial. There is a lesser burdern to prove civil guilt than criminal guilt as backward as that seems.

The OJ trial also begat modern day reality TV.

There were some crazy good performances at the state meet. It's a shame that some of the 3A sprint records may not stand because of 'wind-aided' status, which I think is one of the dumbest reasons for a record not to count. Guy from Henry Clay was motoring.

In 1A, UHA's Isiah Pantiere (Louisville bound) was a false start in the 100 meters away from sweeping the 100, 200, and 400.

Boyle County was impressive in 2A. So was the Mercer County crowd.

Graves County's Sophie Galloway is one of the best female athletes to come out of Region 1 and she is just a sophomore. She finished in fifth place in the 3A team total by herself.

Rain was an issue once again. Some were saying they could have held out a little longer and ran the final 1600-meter relay races in 2A Friday to keep schools from deciding whether to go home or come back Saturday morning. Of course, it doesn't affect triangle schools so the call was made early.

The number of state records that continue to fall show just how freakishly athletic kids are these days.

You are allowed 13 scholarship players. No excuse for Kentucky to have fewer than 12 on the roster in any year given the expected turnover. By my count, Kentucky had nine scholarship players in uniform for the NCAA Tourney. Had room for another point guard, which was needed. I don't understand the 'Thin 30' mentality with Calipari.

Are Calipari and Payne on scholarship or walk-ons?

No idea. When I saw the openings posted, I asked their AD for clarification and that's what I was told. They operate on year-to-year contracts.

Todd County has a policy of posting their basketball positions every year. There may or may not be an official opening.

Christian County returns everyone from a region title team and has two D-1 pitchers on their staff. But, hey. Rankings.

They need to open it up and see who applies. They have some young talent that plays AAU ball but only translated into 11 wins last year. With the culture of kids and their parents these days, priority #1 is to keep the kids home and not transfer. They also need to cut down on roster turnover. If the new coach employs an up-tempo, pressing style offense, they should be in good shape and you will see kids have breakout seasons.

Great Hire in my eyes. I really like Coach Croft when he was assistant under Tim Haworth at Hoptown, and while he coached at Trigg. Should have a better talent pool to pull from in Mayfield.

It's a solid hire. Croft has shown the ability to win when he has the horses. He will be rebuilding at Mayfield. His teams struggled to score the last couple of years but were solid defensively. Should be a good fit for the First Region where you can average 55 points a game and be a .500 team at worst.

No way Texas A/M gets rid of Kennedy without having his replacement agreed on and ready to go in the next month.

I think Kennedy can do better than Tulane. Heck, he could end up at Virginia Tech in what would amount as a coach swap

I think it's a combination but mostly it's giving the girls something they have never done before -- play at Rupp Arena. There are all kinds of girls who also grew up watching UK basketball and wondered what it was like to play in Rupp. It also gives mothers/fathers a chance to start a new tradition with their little girls much like fathers/sons did with the state tournament in the 60s and 70s.

As far a central location, Scott County was just down the road and their student section stunk.

I had my doubts but it may end up being the smartest decision the KHSAA has made since moving golf from the spring to the fall.
