The running clock is designed for a number of reasons including an opportunity to keep kids from getting hurt and to get some kids into games that might not otherwise play. When the coach of the team leading puts in the reserves the sportsmanlike thing to do is to have the trailing team do likewise. When that happens all benefit. The state semi finals is a tough place to have a running clock with 8 minutes left in the first half. Pretty sure neither coach wanted to pull it down that early. Perhaps having a running clock only in the second half makes more sense but I agree that once it goes on it should stay on and that what happens in the regular season should carry right on through.

Covington Catholic did not have a moral victory. They played a good football game and played it hard. Down 28-6 in the 4th he made a sound coaching decision to punt on 4th down and not have Highlands march down and score again with a short field. In the end the 28-13 final was very respectable. I've seen a lot of games over the years and none get my gut churning more than against CCH because they always stir fear in the gut because of how hard they play. It has been a down cycle but no way would they claim this as a moral victory. Look at the way Dale pulled on the reins and went to running the ball in the 4th quarter to shorten the time CCH might have the ball. It was a good move that shows his respect for the CCH program. See you again Colonels in 2014!

I like the system just the way it is! If any change is contemplated it would be to insure more even distribution of East-West teams based on geography to prevent the Beechwood Mayfield fiascoes of years past. Dividing the state into geographical quarters makes a lot of sense.

Great SEASON!! Best of luck in 2014.

Lexington Catholic is a very talented football team. Highlands needs to stay focused on the prize; another effort like the one they gave Friday against Covington Catholic is called for this coming Friday. Two years ago the game in Lexington turned on two huge kickoff returns for the Birds. We need that kind of effort again.

Paducah and Warren Central both showed me a lot; wish them well!

Big game Camels; stay cool and stick to the game plan!

This will be hard fought but I see Johnson Central with the win.

If Highlands can get healthy in the next couple of weeks I like the projections except I believe Boyle will take down Lexington Catholic in Danville.
-
Bird's just need to play smart and get out of the game quickly and healthy. Wouldn't mind seeing Hergott get all the second half snaps.

SK should win this one easily on emotion alone.

Arguably the best defense Harrison County played the whole game came in that last 1:10 of the 1st half. It was an attempt to run the offense against the clock and I am sure that they were not pleased that they failed to score. I am surprised someone has not taken issue that the back up QB in hist first game experience of the season actually had the audacity to throw to the complete stable of wide receivers. Harrison County never quit and my hat is off to each of them!

Best QB in Northern KY? Could be wearing number 7 and only 1 of 10 in the wide receiver rotation! Got a nice peak in a cameo appearance against an under talented opponent; 9 of 10 for 190 yards and 5 TD's! WOW!

Hoge was very impressive; he throws a nice tight spiral and has good field vision. Very impressive at the QB spot.
-
My Mr. Football is Zach Harris; he makes the passing possible. Matt Elam shouldn't even be in the poll.

Tyler Schweitzer got overheated in the first half and did not play the second. No injury so that is good.

Birds defense has not been good of late. At JH the lead ballooned too large and there was a letdown. At PT they came out very lackluster; for goodness sake they couldn't even break the paper the cheerleaders were holding up. The defense made some progress early holding PT to two field goals that easily could have been touchdowns. I don't think the emotions will be an issue this week but Highlands needs to come out and play football from the get go or this one could be real close. Interesting score to watch from Friday will be PT vs Henderson. Might be a tipoff to what kind of club PT really has.

All time the 'Birds are 3-1 vs BG; 1-1 vs Trinity, and only 2-4 vs X. It really isn't a comparison that means anything because of the size issues. As for SK - Highlands record is 25-1. Enough said.

Someone said earlier the ST X game a few years back was a MAXPREPS game and that may well be true but it was broadcast on CBS College Sports and not ESPNU.

Really like the background color on the new board. Royal Highlands Blue!

Color me Old School but I like the 'Bird on either side. With HIGHLANDS across the top the H is not needed!
Should Highlands pay for the buses to take the fans to Bowling Green?

I don't understand the fuss; WKU has a great facility to host the tournament for all six classes. It is one weekend a year! This is one 'Birds fan that books a hotel as soon as the weekend is officially announced. Once again I get a bonus this year since New Cath plays right before the 'Birds. A running clock against Collins this year seems highly unlikely. Time to focus 'Birds and bring home #23! (How many does SK have?)
