  1. More Paulette , with a classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC1LaymbgGE
  2. Okay. I hate you. Jackson and Strait are legends, however. I'm with you there.
  3. I was a big fan of a group Highway 101 and the beautiful Paulette Carlson. Could listen to her all day. I have a question for you music fans. What female rocker does Paulette Carlson remind you of- her voice, looks, dress...? Listen to her voice. She reminds me of the country version of a female rock icon(that is still active, btw). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqvdXqH9xwM
  4. Very fond memories of playing this tune over and over in a little diner downtown while playing pinball for hours and hours. I bet I listened to this great tune 1,000 times.
  5. My dad loves Jerry Wallace. I LOVE this Wallace song. Every time I hear it I think about a series that aired on NBC back in the early seventies and featured stories of horror and the macabre. This song was featured in one of the stories. A jukebox in a ghostly little roadside café plays this tune over and over and over and the record always gets stuck on "words like til death." Remember the series?
  6. Randy was the bomb back in the eighties. Great country sound.
  7. Excellent list there, Mack. Wichita Lineman is such a great tune. Has there ever been a better songwriter than Jimmy Webb?
  8. Why isn't Gene Watson in the CMHOF? "Farewell Party," "Paper Rosie," "14 Carat Mind," and on and on. [video=youtube;kVOQY9Tvi-M]
  9. I'm old school when it comes to my country music as well. Some of today's stuff is okay , but I like the old stuff. We've talked quite a bit about rock but who's on your Mt. Rushmore of Country Music? I'll start with the man... Harold Lloyd Jenkins. The man could own a song and make it his own. He sang with so much passion and had his own unique style of delivery. I still miss him!!! Here's a terrific performance from back in the late eighties of one of my favorites from Conway. If there's anyone that could have just dropped the mic after a performance and walked off it , would have been this guy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYBAQ88vEGU
  10. Mack, you are the expert on Darin, so let me ask you something. It may just be me but Bobby reminds me of Harold Jenkins(aka, Conway Twitty). As I watch this clip of him and Helen, I can't help but notice the similarities. Bobby's sex appeal, his unique method of delivery, the way he carries himself... puts me in mind of Conway. Again, maybe just me. I bet those two dudes could have had any woman they set their sights on.
  11. I love this interpretation of Dylan's "If Not For You" by Bobby and one of my crushes as a teen, Helen Reddy. These two had some kind of chemistry. LOVE IT !
  12. "Jimmy gave us rainbows And Janis took a piece of our hearts And Otis brought us all to the dock of a bay Sing a song to light my fire Remember Jim that way They've all found another place Another place to play... " The fellow who penned those words is a member of a pretty exclusive club. He is one of a very few singers/songwriters to write a#1 song for himself and for another artist. He hit the top of the charts in 1977 , three years after seeing Helen Reddy take one of compositions to #1. I need to know the name of this singer/songwriter, the #1 hit that he had in '77, and the #1 song that he wrote for Helen Reddy. No peeking ...
  13. I know, I know... That was some low hanging fruit. I have a more difficult one that I may throw out there for you there for you in the Rock and Roll Trivia thread.
  14. "If you believe in forever Then life is just a one-night stand If there's a rock and roll heaven Well you know they've got a hell of a band... " I always loved that old Righteous Brothers song. First of all, do you know the six rock and rollers commemorated in the '74 hit song? While you are pondering that one, I'll pose the following question to you: If you passed away today and entered into the pearly gates of Heaven, who would be the six rockers who passed on before you that you would hope to see jamming away in Heaven's band??? Karen Carpenter Brad Delp(Boston) Dan Fogelberg Freddie Mercury Elvis Presley Warren Zevon Maybe opening for them: Conway Twitty Robin Gibb Paul Davis Terry Kath Gerry Rafferty Bob Welch
  15. If South is completely healthy, I agree with you. Knox and South at the top and Corbin very close. But any of these five teams could win three straight and take the region.
  16. Correct!!! Good job, Mediocre Nachos. Never thought I'd ever say that in a sentence.
  17. If you can't beat Alabama, you can't win a national title. Cats better win.
  18. Very bad political move by Mitch, imo, if he was trying to help his party. Why energize the base of the opposition ?
