  1. Something a little more current about Coach Collins that sounds a little more reasonable. Maybe we should all wait a little to judge his performance. Switch-hitting OF Dave Collins' time with New York Yankees short but sweet - NY Daily News Where've you gone, Dave Collins? | reds.com: News Dave Collins Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com
  2. Congratulations to Henry Kerns on a real gutsy performance and win. Congratulations to Dixie on the win and district championship. Good luck in the regional.
  3. It's really just a hypothetical question, but given the last time he pitched (5/2) he finished the game and hasn't really played since, it may be a real possiblity that he can't do both. If that's the case do you go for the District Champ title or save him for first round regional playoff game. Some folks may go for the title, some folks may choose to take a better run at regionals. What say you?
  4. What's more important District Champs title or a first round win in the region tournament? If you have Kuebbing (arguably the best pitcher in the 9th region) for one start which is your choice? Interesting decision for coach Peddicord.
  5. Kuebbing may try and start the game but if he can't go I think he will turn to senior lefty Craig Rose who has pitched well his last two outings. He can use LaCorte and Conradi out of the bullpen if necessary. That will set him up to throw Holland, Neimer and Rogers at Dixie assuming they beat Villa. My message to all STH pitchers would be to learn how to miss the strike zone with 0-2 and 1-2 counts. And by the way... STH has the best catcher in the region that no one knows his name!!! Peter Markgraf deserves some props.
  6. Cooper is a much much better team then this score would indicate. On the warming up of relief pitchers, please give a kid a proper chance to prepare before you ask him to put the stress of pitching on his body. Every coach should hold the players health over the score of any game. Increasing the risk of injury should not be an option here!
  7. I didn't accuse anyone of being drunk last night. But I have seen parents get drunk at baseball games (not speaking of any parents drinking last night) in the past and don't think it's a good idea. Pretty simple concept, sorry you can't see that. Also the umpire has authority to handle parents, coaches, players or fans he thinks overstep the bounds of civil behavior. We also have laws that cover these type of things. I'm not after an anything goes society, we live by rules and laws we should all obey at the same time being a fan is not just sitting in the stands talking to friends, neighbors or relatives. If your watching the game you should be able to comment, cheer or jeer within reason. Nothing bad happened at StH last night, and maybe because none of the fans who were unhappy with the call at the plate were drunk.
  8. Sounds like you think getting drunk at a high school athletic event is ok as long as you don't tell an umpire you think he missed a call? If everyone felt he missed the call and all reacted at the same time in the same way maybe the umpire decided the call in haste and was wrong. Isn't that possible? Also not a curse, threat or any type of misbehavior occured and the game continued without interruption or warning from the umpire. Just a bunch of parents saying how could you miss that call is not berating. The issue is still drinking at a high school event is wrong and can lead to real trouble.
  9. I agree drinking at any high school event is not necessary and should be banned if it is not already. I also believe the setting a bad example concept is not the main reason; to me it's the generally inferior officiating I've seen matched with the potential for poor parent behavior. For the most part parents are the most dedicated and invested fans that ever attend any sporting event and the expectation for them to just sit quietly when they feel their child hasn't been treated properly may be a bit much when you add a little liquid courage to the mix. Actually the expectation parents should just sit quietly and cheer politely on cue as we are told is a bit ridiculous. Parents should be able to express themselves within the confines of civil behavior as much as they choose. My comments are meant to cover all High School athletic events. (If you consider people have problems with professional officiating it's real easy to accept what we have at the High School level can be called inferior without it being an insult.)
  10. Congrats to Mitch Kuebbing on yet another gutsy performance against a very good Highlands team. Mitch is a very talented young man. Also congrats to Tony LaCorte who notched rbi's 23, 24 & 25 on the season in the bottom of the 6th. Congrats to all the boys of STH for bouncing back from a tough loss with 2 impressive wins.
  11. Congrats to LaCorte on the complete game shutout!! Bauman, Rose, Rogers and Taylor all made excellent plays for STH to preserve the shutout. All around great defensive effort from the Cursaders.
  12. Gutsy complete game effort from Kuebbing so early in the season! Markgraf had another outstanding performance behind the plate, he was huge in the 6th inning. I think the Crusaders really wanted to win this game.
  13. LaCorte threw a very efficient 74 pitches giving up only 3 hits for the shutout with solid defense lead by Rogers and Rose supporting his efforts. Keubbing made an outstanding catch in right to record the first out of the seventh inning. Markgraf had a great day behind the plate also, his strong arm and quick trigger release has become very effective at controlling base runners. Overall a very solid performance from the Crusaders.
